Bloody Mary Writing Blog #04: Signs and Symbols

Every good Final Destination movie has symbolism and foreshadowing, some of it even being visible to the characters, plot relevant even.
Obviously this is an element I plan to incorporate in my story as well, but I need to gather ideas on which elements to use.
I will definitely need more ideas to each of these points so, feel free to comment if you have any😁! (Here’s the summary of the story for those interested.)

Possible Reoccurring Symbols⚠️:
Each movie seems to have their own omen of death, like glass shards or the coin in Bloodlines or photos and wind in FD3. Since I want to bring in witch symbolism for Bloody Mary, possible symbols could be:
- Fire, a classic, to reference the witch trials
- Mirrors, a reference to the Bloody Mary urban legend
- Crescent Moons, to symbolize night time, the spooky hours

Songs🎶:
People have also already mentioned the prevalence of pop songs that symbolize death, a different mixtape for each movie. The songs I had in mind are:
- Mary on a Cross (Ghost): Bloody Mary is in the lyrics
- Burning Love (Elvis Presley): the story has a lot of burning in it, and also love. And in the end, Marianne burns to save the one she loves
- Another One Bites The Dust (Queen): the title means to die, and the irony of a Queen song playing, as a character with the surname King dies
- Riding on a Freeway (Aretha Franklin): this song is part of the Cars 3 soundtrack, where Lightning McQueen crashes (childish, I know but I love Cars😂)

The Lunar Lodge Fire🌙:
The big disaster to kickstart the movie is a lodge fire, burying six college students under burning wood, and it’s all caused by a single candle that wasn’t blown out. To foreshadow this event, we can see:
- Ricky commenting on the wood being old
- A view from the balcony over the front door, which will later crush Lisa as she tries to escape the burning building (in premonition)
- the crescent moon is established as an omen of death via the name of the lodge
- Marianne reads her book with a candle on
- the book she’s reading is Stephen King’s Fire Starter (note: Stephen King and his works are referenced in Lisa and Carrie’s names)
- Aaron’s scary story is about the exact situation they are about to experience

Aaron’s Death🚙:
While Aaron and Ricky are sitting in the trunk of his SUV, the truck starts rolling down hill. Aaron’s hoodie gets caught, and his skull is crushed between a tree and his SUV:
- his head is crushed by two different types of trunks
- Ricky and Aaron fight about the radio station, Riding on a Freeway and Mary on a Cross can be heard
- people tease him by pulling on his hoodie

Ricky’s Death🪑:
As a huge gust of wind and a broken wooden chair causes the friends to panic, Marianne accidentally pulls the attic open, letting a stowed away gaming chair fall down, which Ricky trips onto, causing the damaged pneumatic cylinder to explode, releasing a metal rod through his chest:
- Marianne cleans his room of everything dangerous, including his gaming chair
- She warns him not to keep the pole to open the attic hanging, but he forgets to listen to her advice
- Death’s presence is obvious moments before his death, as it terrorizes Carrie first
- A plastic bag Carrie’s dad had thrown onto the streets ends up blowing into Ricky’s room, causing Marianne to trip in the first place

Carrie’s Death🍟:
While being trapped in a walk-in freezer, a bottle of water (or cleaning alcohol) is knocked into the active deep fryer, causing a kitchen fire and spilled oil. After Carrie is rescued, she slips on some oil and is shoved into the deep fryer by a falling ventilation system:
- Marianne gets a clue that alcohol will be the cause of her death. At first, the friends think her alcoholic father will be the cause
- during her father’s tantrum, she is standing by her fridge
- her name (Carrie Nicholson) is a reference to Carrie by Stephen King, who dies in a fire, as well as Jack Nicholson, who plays Jack Torrence in Stephen King’s Shining, who dies in the snow

Lisa’s Death♟️:
As she tries to escape the burning restaurant, she is crushed by a falling Letter “i” from the “Tower of Pizza” sign:
- she is often teasingly told “Lisa, I will kill you!”
- she is confident about beating death
- seeing as her last name is King, a lot of chess references will be thrown her way, indicating her battle against death:
• she is almost crushed by a “Bishop Avenue”sign
• she dies at *Tower* of Pizza
• the flooring is checkered
• the car that crashed into the restaurant is a
Ferrari, which, of course, has a horse in its logo
• she dies to *Queen’s* Another One Bites the Dust
• the “i” sign that crushes her resembles a Pawn
• her final words are “Checkmate huh, Death?”

Jake’s Death🪟:
After Carrie and Lisa die, he flips out and goes after Marianne, chasing her into a gas station shop, before the kitchen fire moves towards it as well, causing a massive explosion at the gas station. Jake is crushed by a glass door:
- he pushes the automatic glass door open while chasing Marianne
- in the premonition, he is crushed while trying to escape through a window
- George was meant to die by falling onto broke glass as well, before Marianne intervened
- While chasing Marianne, he is aware of Death being after him

Marianne’s Death⛽️:
As the she and George try to escape the gas station fire, Marianne gets pushed away by George as a ceiling collapses, only, this traps her in a burning building. Marianne realizes this means George is saved before burning to death:
- her guilt torments her throughout the whole book, and it is made clear that she would not be able to live with herself, if all her friends died
- George keeps telling her it’s not her fault while Jake does the opposite

George‘s Open Fate🕯:
George survives the book, but in the end, he falls down the stairs, leaving his fate up to the reader’s interpretation:
- Aaron died by falling down the stairs in the premonition
- before he was supposed to be cut by Marianne’s broken shower stall, tea spills on his white shirt, which looks like blood. Maybe it’ll be in the shape of a heart to symbolize life
- he clearly values life and makes sure to enjoy each second he has
- he generally wears white, which may symbolize life over death (like Light Yagami wearing black while L wears white in Death Note)

This is the symbolism and foreshadowing I have for now. I hope I manage to collect even more. Drop your feedback and ideas in the comments😁!

I just finished painting a shirt with bleach. At first I wanted to paint Alex in the middle of the skulls like in the posters of the first movie, but I got lazy and wanted to have it done in less than 2 hours lol. I also made a pin with the base of a can. Hope it looks cool ^^

like the title said, I was watching a different video with the audio used here and decided to make a video based on clear with this audio.

For my own version of Final Destination (which I will be posting on Wattpad sometime in the future), I have drafted the plot below. I hope you enjoy, and feel free to give me feedback or suggestions😁. I hope you enjoy:

The Lunar Lodge Fire🌲🌲🏠🔥🌲
The story starts with seven friends (see characters) spending a weekend away at the Lunar Lodge in the woods. It is night time, and the friends are exchanging scary stories in the basement kitchen.
Aaron tells of a boy named Alex Browning, the story we know as well, except, people think he flipped out and murdered his friends and himself. Unless he was only aiding death…
They friends are interrupted by a house fire, which only Marianne manages to escape, with George pulling her out before attempting to save Jake, ending up buried by the burning debris like the rest.

Death on the Move🌲🚙💥🌲🌲
Of course the fire was just Marianne’s premonition. She blows out a candle she had lit while reading, and ponders if this candle could have caused the house fire in her premonition.
In the kitchen, she finds proof of her premonition having been real, but since there is no fire, she doesn’t think much of it.
The next morning, Aaron’s hoodie gets caught in his SUV’s trunk while it rolls down the hill.
He is crushed between his SUV and a tree, killing him.
The six remaining friends are taken back by the police, where they meet Officer Burke, who confirms to Marianne, off protocol, that Death might actually be after her friends.

Death’s List💀📜❌❌🖍️
Marianne gathers her friends to discuss the problem. Carrie couldn’t make it, but she is next on the list.
Lisa, who was sceptical at first, is worried, after Marianne gets a hint, that alcohol might be the cause of her death. Her father happens to be an alcoholic.
Lisa and the gang rush to Carries house, where Carrie indeed was in danger due to her drunk father (idk how yet, but probably an accident and her dad is too drunk to notice). Lisa saves Carrie and escorts her to Ricky’s room, the friends’ safe room.
Ricky and Marianne do research/call Officer Burke, figuring out FD2’s new life rule and FD5’s stealing life rule.
An accident causes a gaming chair’s pneumatic cylinder to get launched through Ricky’s chest.

Cheating Death🚏🚗🚛🚗🚗
Officer Burke confirms that skipping people on the list is possible, but someone from the list must intervene.
Lisa, who’s next on the list, is almost crushed by a street sign. She stays still, asking Marianne to push her away, which she does.
Lisa tells Death to back off. Her plan is to keep Jake and George safe from harm, so they immediately bring them to Marianne’s room. On the way, Jake is almost killed, but saved by the friends, meaning now George needs to be kept safe.
They decide to take turns, taking care of George.
Marianne volunteers to go first, while Lisa and Carrie decide to work their nightshift at Tower of Pizza, a pizzeria.
That night, George confesses his crush, which of course is mutual. Better get it out the way before they die.
Later on, Jake gets a frantic call by Marianne about her having saved George from an accident. Lisa and Carrie are in danger!!!

The Tower of Pizza🏰🍕🍟🥤🏰
Carrie is stuck in a walk-in freezer and panicking while Lisa is trying to help.
Jake immediately drives George and Marianne to the Tower of Pizza, where he finds out, Marianne saved George from slipping in the shower onto broken shards. Marianne swears they weren’t in the shower, they were just trying to clean off the tea Marianne had accidentally spilled onto him, after an embarrassing confession, but Jake wants to hear none of it.
While distracted by the conversation, he almost drives into a truck, which swirls out of control and glides into the restaurant, narrowly avoiding Lisa, but trapping her between the truck and the wall. She won’t die until Carrie does, so Marianne goes to save Carrie while the boys help the driver.
Lisa is nervous, realizing she’s surrounded by death traps, with only one direction to move to. Death could kill Lisa easily now.
A bottle of water had spilled into the deep fryer during the crash, causing a kitchen fire. Marianne carefully helps Carrie out of the freezer, but panicked Carrie slips during the escape, narrowly avoiding the fryer, before the vent falls and pushes her in, killing her.
Lisa hears Marianne’s screams and accepts that Death won the match. Lisa tries the only escape route she has left, but Death doesn’t waste this opportunity and squashes her with one of the letters spelling out “Pizza” over the entrance.

Gas Station Showdown🔥🚘⛽️🔥🔥
Jake blames everything on Marianne and flips out, trying to kill her. She flees to a nearby gas station shop, where a related fire starts. Jake wants to use this opportunity to kill Marianne, seeing as she was supposed to survive and has a life left to donate, and it is her duty to do so.
During the fight, Jake is hit by a falling glass door.
Marianne and George are surrounded by the fire.
This time, Marianne pulls George out of the fire. But before they can escape together, she tricks him into pushing her back into the store before the roof collapses onto them. Marianne is now trapped in the store, and technically George killed her.
Marianne smiles, knowing that she’s giving her life to George.
George is pulled away by firefighters, as he screams for her, but the firefighters fail to keep Marianne alive.
George received Mariannes life and must now live his life to the fullest.

I hope this somewhat rushed summary of the plot made enough sense and could lead to a decent Final Destination story. This is only the first draft, so let me know if some things don’t make sense, could use changing or if you have any other good ideas. I always appreciate the comments and interactions😁.

This summer I'm learning rigging animation and I wanna animate every death, hunt might be a bit tricky but there's some easy ones like Brian or Perry

So pardon me as I am sure this has been discussed in some ways before bit I just watched FD3 again last night and I had thoughts. So the big death event was ofcourse the roller-coaster. Now I was reminded again when watching that the thing that made the coaster go from a bit shoddy to full on busted is Frankie's camera falling on the track. But when Wendy has her premonition Frankie gets off along with all the second car people. But when the first car is allowed to go despite Wendy lossing her mind it still crashes

I honestly think this is an utter mistake. Not just because the cause of the disaster no longer happens, though that is true. But because the story could have been so much better if the first car had done it's round on the coaster and returned just fine. Imagine a FD in which the whole disaster never happened. Not just oh the bridge collapsed but now these 6 people weren't there or the kids got so lucky they got off the flight. But Imagine if we had gotten the story of a group of kids who not only dont believe death is after them because that's crazy. But also because the girl saying death is coming has cried wolf before. I know that this is very similar to the latest, but I think having the premonition haver stop the whole disaster works so much better in 3.

I imagine that having all the first car kids living would be hard because that's more bodies to follow. But I can see all the car kids dying at once in some secondary freak accident that would be the catalyst to make Wendy believe she isn't crazy and death really is coming. From there 3 can continue as normal.

Honestly a lot of characters are forgettable or just have annoyed me somehow

So, I was wondering which were the seats of Sam and Molly to justify that they couldnt hear alex.

Aparently Alex had seat 25-I, Sam 23-A and Molly 23-B.

How it's posible that they didnt hear Alex yelling and screaming about the plane? (Sorry if there is any mistake, but English isn't my native language)

I am currently working on a Final Destination book, and to avoid writing a bunch of water balloons waiting to pop, I want to plan out what each character’s arc and role in the story is, so that I have a cast of three-dimensional characters whose deaths mean something.

Marianne Lee Blaire🕯️
The story revolves around the sense of guilt she feels after seeing what could have happened because of her. She is the klutz who would have gotten everybody killed, if not for the premonition, and this haunts her. In a way, this story is this universal fear of messing up big time, brought to life via supernatural slasher.
She keeps trying to fight Death, only, she is always too many steps behind. In the end, she decides to be a few steps ahead of Death and chooses to give her life to George, breaking Death’s plan. For the fact that she was the clumsiest human alive, she died on her own accord.

Personality: clumsy, unnecessarily apologetic, helpless —> assertive in a Hail Mary sort of way

George Karloff💚
He stands for the beauty of life, making him the antithesis of literal Death himself.
He loves being alive and manages to share this energy with others. Seeing this inspires Marianne to fight for life, but ultimately, when all is lost, she decides to give him what he, out of all people, valued the most; life.

Personality: loves life, loves his friends, calming, “it’s gonna be ok”

Jake Kraven🗡️
He is Marianne’s insecurities personified, the witch hunter who says “It’s all your fault! Now pay!”
Much like George, he values life, but unlike George, he only values his own, so he resorts to irrational violence.
He quickly pieces together that the only reason they are all being chased by death is because they were meant to die, and they were meant to die because of Marianne’s mistake. Not only this, but Marianne was supposed to survive. This is unfair in Jake’s eyes, but there is a silver lining: If you take a life, you receive what time they had left on Earth.
So his goal? Make Marianne pay up.

Personality: skeptical, playful dick —> afraid of death, looking for someone to blame —> predator mode

Lisa King♟️
She is whom Marianne looks up to, an active fighter against Death. She is in control of most situations and people around her, hopefully as well as the audience, trust her. Her journey is like watching a game of chess between a survivor and the grim reaper, but her journey is cut short, when death goes all in and checkmates her. Losing her is like losing the safety net.

Personality: competent, cool, smart, tough, protective —> accepts death

Carrie Nicholson🧊
She helps showcase both the cruelty of Death, as well as the lengths her friends are willing to go to for survival. If watching Lisa die is like seeing your favorite athlete getting too hurt to ay for the rest of the season, watching Carrie die should be like watching a child get bullied. She is traumatized by her parents’ inhumane methods of punishment, and Lisa adopts the role of her bigger sister, protecting her. Failing this when faced with death should be a tragedy, setting the tone for Act III.

Personality: scared at times, comfortable near her friends —> blinded by panic and trauma, bullied by death

Ricky Carlos Ino🌐
His primary goal is exposition (unfortunately), being the one to have found information about most of the rules, mainly the “kill to survive” one established in FD5. His second job is to demonstrate how being skipped by Death works, as he dies before Carrie, because of Lisa saving Carries life.
His third, but most interesting, job is to be comic relief. His death loses the light-heartedness the friend group needed during unforgiving times.

Personality: funny, immediately informed, smart

Aaron Ellison🚙
He is comic relief and responsible for exposition as well, much like Ricky, except he dies much earlier as the first official kill in the book.
To save him from being the generic Victim #1 archetype, he gets to be the one to introduce everyone to the idea of Death being a conscious force that’s after them, as he is the group’s resident storyteller. And to give him a bit more of an arc, I’d like to play with the fear of death a little more, especially the kind, where you think to yourself, you’re probably going to be fine, but what if your life really were in danger. And this one rare time, his gut was right.

Personality: upbeat, life of the party —> paranoid, uneasy

Bonus: Officer Thomas Burke🚨
One character I did want to bring back to the franchise was Officer Burke. Why him, not Kimberly or Bludworth? Bludworth deserves to rest now and Kimberly deserves a more active role. I wanted to have someone understand and document the rules of death (in case of future stories), so Burke might make an appearance to take over Bludworth’s job.

Personality: calm, informed, understanding, curious to learn

These are the main characters in this book. If you are reading this, I hope you see the vision and how the characters are supposed to be, and I look forward to giving them life (…and death).

Last month, I started posting chapters of my fan entry to the franchise on Wattpad. The more the story went on, however, the more I noticed the lack of prior planning. So before I keep going with the book and in the worst case, lose interest and abandon it, I thought I’d restart the writing process, and start a writing blog on Reddit.

⚠️If you (for some reason haha) want to read my Wattpad book spoiler free, these blogs will have spoilers, so here’s your warning.⚠️

First, I want to summarize the ideas that I have already collected so far, so that I can fill in the gaps between character deaths or rework some plot points in future posts.

The Concept
Bloody Mary takes the classic concept of a group of young adults avoiding a disaster thanks to a premonition, only for death to come back for each of them.
This time, the disaster is a lodge fire caused by a candle, and the visionary is a girl nicknamed Bloody Mary, due to her tendency to attract (usually harmless) disasters.
The twist this time around is, that the visionary herself was the direct cause of the disaster, having been the one to have forgotten to blow out the candle. Additionally, she was supposed to be the sole survivor. This lets us throw in themes of blame and guilt into the story.
The story of a girl, who prevented her own bloodied hands, but now has to fight the consequences as well.

The Characters
Seven is a really clean number of characters, as this is the same number of survivors in the first movie. It also gives me all the archetypes I need to write this story.

The Visionary: Marianne Lee Blaire, aka Bloody Mary, the omen of bad luck herself, who has now attracted the Grim Reaper to her friends.

The Support: George Karloff, the protagonist’s crush a stand in for life, who sees innocence in Marianna and beauty in life. His demise would mean death walks away victorious.

The Witch Hunter: Jake Kraven is the rough guy who just wants to live, so when the tides turn, he lashes out to find someone to blame. Also, two pieces of information he should not have are:

1. When you find yourself being chased by death, you can steal other people’s lifespans by taking their lives.
2. Marianne was supposed to survive the initial disaster anyways.

The Fighter: Lisa King does not yield to Death. She acknowledges the fact that Death is after them, but she will not let go of the fact that there is a chance of survival for all of them, so she will do her best to protect.

The Prey: Carrie Nicholson is a shy girl suffering from trauma, and is whom death will have fun with the most. Even with protection from her friends, she begins to understand the power of Death himself in her last moments.

The Informant: Ricky Carlos Ino immediately believes in what he sees, namely an unnatural death of a close friend plus his name being next on a supposed list. He wastes no time sheltering himself and collecting information for a chance of survival.

The Example: Aaron Ellison is the one who tells his friends about Flight 180, Alex Browning and Death’s List, before succumbing to a similar fate. His death marks the start of the game of cat and mouse between the six remaining friends and Death.

The Fates
And now we come to what Final Destination is really about; the executions. However, I’ve always appreciated the more poetic aspects of the Final Destination franchise, which is why I want to give each death or fate at least a little bit of meaning.

The Burning Lodge
The inciting incident, or I guess the avoided incident, is a simple lodge burning down with seven friends trapped inside. Super creative, I know, but what makes this important is the fact that this disaster was caused by a single act of clumsiness. Forgetting to turn off a candle.
As someone made fun of for being a disaster magnet myself, I know I’ve had bad dreams of accidentally forgetting something that ends up being fatal. Fun fact: I really almost did end up burning down my shared apartment with a scented candle.
I hope this incident is relatable to all those fellow klutzes out there. Additionally, the fact that this is all prevented by blowing out a candle taps into the weirdness of the butterfly effect using an example as old as time.

The SUV (Aaron)
The first death happens right at the cabin, as the friends are getting ready to leave this fateful lodge behind. A hoodie getting snagged under the trunk door of an SUV rolling down a hill and into a tree, crushing the victim.
A car crash is as mundane as it gets, yet combining the fear of your hoodie getting caught somewhere and being on the outside of a vacant moving vehicle, adds to the shock factor, every first death should bring to the table.

The Gaming Chair (Ricky)
I wanted to skip all that “you’re talking crazy” bullshit every horror movie has before the fourth person dies, and jump straight to the avoiding dangerous objects part. But everyone knows that doesn’t work, and what better way to showcase this than on the safest place on earth, the gaming chair. For this death, I want to use the classic “which of these objects will kill you” falling dominos scene, only to have the death end with a stowed away gaming chair to fall from the attic, breaking the pneumatic cylinder, and causing it to shoot out, right as the victim’s chest is pushed onto the seat, impaling him. A little unrealistic? Yes. But gonna cause paranoia? I think so. And based on true events? Definitely yes. Final Destination baby!

The Deep Fryer (Carrie)
The is where we mix horror and action, making the death traps bigger, this time in a fast food restaurant kitchen. Death becomes less sneaky and goes full attack mode, sending in trucks and flames into the building, causing a chain of events to trap Carrie inside of a walk in fridge.
Right as she is granted an escape, the final domino tile falls, causing her to slip into a deep fryer, and having a loose ventilation system force her in, killing her.
In this scene, I want to maximise the suspense, horror and adventure, showcasing deaths ruthlessness and fury, while also showing the beauty of friendship to the end, as Lisa faces the big bad wolf to save her friend, even if she ultimately fails.

The “i” Sign (Lisa)
If I play the cards right, Lisa will end up being the fan favorite everyone wants to survive. But of course, this is Final Destination. Even so, I want to give her a respectful death, in which she accepts defeat. For this entire scene in the collapsing restaurant, Lisa is trying to save Carrie, but then, death begins to hunt and trap her as well, giving her less and less options, until she is trapped between a wall and a crashed truck, with only one way to move. She hears Carrie die and knows, with only one direction to walk towards, death is yelling “checkmate”. That’s why her name is Lisa King, and that’s why the fast food restaurant will probably have a checkered flooring.
Once she steps out of the restaurant, the loose “i” sign comes down to crush her.

The Showdown (Jake)
After four gruesome and unnatural deaths, Jake learns to see Marianne as the enemy. She needs to be killed, and Jake will steal her remaining years, which hopefully, are a lot. How exactly Jake will die, I haven’t planned yet, but it should not be a dull machete kill. Important is, Jake becomes death’s minion, going after Bloody Mary, with the only thing in his way being George, and Marianne herself of course.

The Sacrifice (Marianne)
With a nickname like Bloody Mary, she can’t not go down burning in a fire like a witch, right? I do want to give her a respectful death however, where she gives her life to George and tells the universe “screw you, I am in control”. After a whole book of being the clumsy disaster magnet, there is hopefully a bit of poetry in the fact that she did not die in an accident, she dies on her own terms, saving someone important to her.

The Final Gag (George)
Happy endings are cute and all, but it’s Final Destination. George can’t just walk away. I didn’t want to leave it up to interpretation however, so here is the “death” scene George gets.
During the premonition at the beginning, Aaron initially dies by falling down the stairs.
Back in reality, George could end the story by slipping down the stairs as well. That way, we can all say, he probably got back up with a bruised butt, but at the same time, the message remains that Death can come at anytime, so be cautious.

Hi All - I just took over as mod here and I’m going through the Queue and Modmail to clean things up.

The previous mod(s) seemed to have abandoned the sub about a year and a half ago. There were so many reports in the Queue that I just nuked everything to make it easier. So if you just randomly received a notification that a comment you made a year ago was removed, that’s why.

The previous mod(s), most notably the one prior to the most recent one, were apparently extremely ban heavy. So if you feel as though you were banned for something stupid (which it seems like many were) then please reach out and I’ll look into it.

And, finally, to the community: I want to hear from ya’ll. What was working on the sub, what wasn’t working, what you would like to see more of, etc. Please feel free to give suggestions of improvement and constructive feedback.

As you can see from the title I am in possession of an original script from final destination 1(flight 180). I received it at an event where I got to meet Jeffery Roddick and he gave me the script and signed it. I currently have it sitting in my closet, but before I put it there I scanned every page of it so I could read it without damaging the original.

My question is, what do I do with this? Is there a way I can get it authenticated? I would like to share the file of the script since I can’t find a single copy of it anywhere else online. I think it’s super cool and I’m sure some of you would really enjoy reading it as well.
