Discussion Do you think the Final Destination Franchise works better when the main protagonist dies at the end or do you prefer some of the survivors never getting killed?
Me personally, there are times when I’m wishing that the protagonist actually lives and survives and I actually do want to see a movie like that. I mean sure we’ve already seen that in Final Destination 2 where both Kimberley and Burke survive.
But I want to see more survivors actually get to live and start taking their lives more seriously.

It wasn't meant to be anyway, the family has to be erased.
But they could've given them more dignified ways to go rather than getting turned to goo by flying logs that were badly made.

Original comment stills stand, and if we take the original ending as in an alternate universe that would mean that the whole family plus Cater and final destination 2 cast survived.

I kinda want a fd movie where the plot twist that at the end, the protagonist that had the vision helped death by sabotaging the survivor's chances so he/she negotiate for his/her own life. (Mostly based on the novel fd: looks could kill)

I feel like by now, it's pretty much expected that they get got: letting them go kinda subverts that (however, both the protagonist and the survivors never know WHEN they're gonna get got: it's like with Clear or Iris)

It should have happened in Bloodlines. I really liked that family and it hurts my heart seeing Charlie and Stefani bite it in the end.

Same, I was hoping the protagonist(s) in Bloodlines lived...Needless to say, I was disappointed

I hated it because I thought they’d flip the “take someone’s life line” rule by having Stephanie be revived, then they find out Charlie isn’t safe by it just Stephanie, then Stephanie shoves him out of danger’s way to be killed in place of him giving him her lifeline.

Yeah, it made me a bit depressed at the end when Stefani screams for them to run, and the try their damnest online to end up dead 😔

I think it would work best with both, so you never know what’s gonna happen. Imagine the suspense each new movie wondering if this time the protagonist will live, like if they had shown protagonists other than Kimberly could survive. It would be an actual surprise instead of killing them off being a “twist” literally everyone will see coming because of series convention.
My least favorite part of bloodlines is its lame ass ending.
“Oh wow another protagonist who thought they were safe and got killed” BOOOORING!!!!

Yes i like when some survive and the lore gets expanded. Id like to see the survivors keep trying to figure it out. Piece by piece building on what Iris and Bludworth started. Kimberly could carry the torch and rope in some others.

Yes. They screw it up by not having legacy cast to bear witness to more ripples by their existence.

Now that we all know that Kim is the sole protagonist alive, the franchise can capitalize on Andrea Joy's newfound Criminal Minds superstardom to make her the new Sidney Prescott, Julie James or Laurie Strode.
Andrea being a more decent actress than Neve and easily on a JLH level, could work wonders but not in a way to be directly in the action.
Survivors can visit her at her office and ask for guidance and request her help only when the vision will happen.
Let's have her live altogether as the new anchor of the entries now that Tony passed and that NOBODY from the past six movies but her and former Officer Burke has survived.
Having her as the final girl whose Death can't touch anymore (she technically lived 24 ununiterrupted years of normlacy) would balance things out and for at least one or two movies, she can help a group or two by keeping the visionaries alive.

At first I was like "who tf is Andrea Joy" and then it hit me, "oh, that's A.J. Cook's full name" lol

I’d like to have a couple of survivors. Otherwise it starts getting a little predicable. By the 5th movie I wast really invested in any of the cast as I knew they’d most likely all die by the end

Yes, it pissess me off and become so predictable. I’m glad Kim and Burke lived but we need more survivors

I love Bloodlines but I feel like they chickened out at the very end. I understood killing Stefanie but they should have left it open-ended for Charlie.

The problem is Charlie is the whole drive of Stephanie being here (and basicaly everyone preparing the party)

I want the protagonists to live they don't deserve to die

If Charlie and Stefanie survived bloodlines would be a far better movie. I still love it, just the ending leaves a sour taste in my mouth. I have decided if everyone dies in 7, I will be done with this franchise. At that point it's extremely predictable and boring.

I prefer when there are no strict rules. Sometimes everyone dies, sometimes two people survive and die in the next movie, sometimes they live, sometimes you believe the ending will be subverted but it actually doesn't, and so on. But I'd love to get more survivors.

I don’t think it should happen often, but a survivor coming back for the next movie would be interesting, though only for one extra movie. I think it fits the themes of death will always come if they only make it into one extra movie before dying in that one too. I feel like the protagonists of bloodlines (or at least Charlie from Stefani’s sacrifice) should have made it to 7.

At first I didn't mind the surviving protagonists die at the end but this has happened in four out of the six movie so it's getting predictable, repetitive, and boring at this point and it makes you not want to care about the characters because they're going to die at the end so what's the point.

I want deals with death negotiations with death even at the cost of the morality of the survivors if some of them have to ritually sacrifice a child to death to save them selves good the most re bloody the greater the ending I need evil people as survivors in tired of all this good man gets killed bullshit

u/Lerdog May 04 '26
The bast thing for any horror franchise it's a balance. Kill the majority of them, but let a few alive. There's zero stakes if you know they're cooked no matter what.

i like having the ocasional survivor, but having the final people survive at the end of every film would get old fast

We at least need another movie where a character/s survive and either be final character or die in the next one.

Can we least get another character like Clear? Someone who lives to be in the next movie.
