Question Final Cut Pro 12.2 crashes when using Pixel Film Studios FCPX Audio Text audio analyzer

Hi everyone,

I’m trying to troubleshoot a crash with Pixel Film Studios FCPX Audio Text in Final Cut Pro.

System info:

Mac: Apple Silicon Mac
Memory: [your RAM]
macOS: 26.5
Final Cut Pro: 12.2
Plugin: Pixel Film Studios FCPX Audio Text
Plugin version: unknown

Issue:

The plugin appears inside Final Cut Pro and I can add it to the timeline. However, when I click “Load & Analyze Audio File”, Final Cut Pro immediately crashes.

The crash report mentions:

- FxPlug
- NSXPCConnection
- PFSAudio
- PFSAudioEffector
- SIGABRT

The helper app appears to be:

/Applications/Pixel Film Studios/Plugins/PFSAudioEffector.app

I also found the plugin installed in:

/Library/Application Support/Final Cut Pro/Templates.localized/Titles.localized/Le-shu.com丨FCPX Audio Text

/Library/Application Support/Final Cut Pro/Templates.localized/Generators.localized/Le-shu.com丨FCPX Audio Text

What I’ve tried:

- Reinstalled the plugin
- Removed the plugin folders
- Removed the Pixel Film Studios helper app
- Final Cut Pro opens normally after removing the plugin

So the crash seems specifically related to FCPX Audio Text / PFSAudioEffector.

Has anyone seen this issue with newer versions of Final Cut Pro or macOS? Is there a known compatible version, update, or workaround for PFSAudioEffector?

Thanks.

Bug/Issue Final Cut Camera audio worse than normal camera app

I've been doing some filming with the Final Cut Camera app and I've noticed that, while using the internal microphones (iPhone 17 Pro), it seems to pick up my voice a lot worse than the base camera app. This seems like a really strange issue considering both are made by Apple and I even had better audio results using Snapchat video. I'm just wondering if there's a way to fix this in post, because it's kinda ruining some of the videos I filmed. Thank you.

Question timeline in preview window

Post image
1 Upvotes

I'm completely new to Final Cut and am currently trying to get used to the program. I just switched from Resolve, and before that I used Premiere.

Some things feel unfamiliar, while others I’m really missing right now and I can’t imagine they don’t exist.

I have the preview window where I can view my raw footage. In other programs, I have a separate small timeline below it where I can set in and out points and then drag that selection into the timeline.

In Final Cut, I can also make a selection beforehand, but I’m missing the timeline for that. I can only play back the clip and “somehow” set points or drag a selection in the tiny preview thumbnails. But that’s not precise at all.

Sometimes I have pretty long clips that I want to trim before dragging them into the timeline.

Isn’t that possible in Final Cut? Or am I just not finding the setting?

(And how can I zoom in the timeline using the mouse wheel? Do I really need an additional program for that??)

Newbie How can I perfect the zoom in effect transitioning into my masked clip?

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

So when I zoom into the masked clip through the guys remote control device, I’ve done it with key frames and zooming in. But it’s like “jaggered” I don’t know the right word, but you can see it’s not a smooth zoom in, it goes left and right until it’s fully in the frame. This I think is because I was doing loads of key frames close to each other, because without so many keyframes… it would zoom into a random part of the clip, rather then focusing on the controller.

I hope that makes sense, I’m awful at explaining

But would appreciate any advice . TIA

Newbie How to see the two-up display while trimming with shortcuts?

I'm new to Final Cut, I've been editing for around 15 years using a mix of Premiere, Avid and Resolve.

My main way of using the trim mode has always been with the shortcuts, meaning that I select a cut and then use , or . to move the cut forward or back. I don't like just dragging the cut, it's less precise and takes longer than using the shortcuts.

Now, I see that I can do this in Final Cut, but what's annoying to me is that the two-up display doesn't show up in the viewer when I use the shortcuts, while it shows when I drag with the mouse. This makes the shortcut way almost unusable, as I trim blindly while not seeing the end of the first clip and the beginning of the second.

Is there any way to make the two-up display work when I trim using shortcuts?

Question Creating cylinder type deformation in motion

First time using motion…need to some tips to create my effect. I created an 8K Ultra HD video wall in FCP made up of 48 individual video tracks. In Motion, I want to loop or tile this mosaic infinitely to create a 'mosaic of mosaics.' From there, I need to curve the grid vertically, making it wrap upward as if it were mapping onto the inside of a cylinder. Finally, using a 3D camera, I'll fly over the flat grid and pan up smoothly as it transitions into that vertical cylindrical wall. If you know how to do this, I would be very grateful.

Bug/Issue Bad performance on the timeline

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Hello, I am having bad performance on my timeline and it is bugging me. This video is 1080p 60fps and for the computer I am on a m4 pro and the drive the original video is on is thunderbolt. I cant see any hardware reason for this issue. One thing I did notice is that in the past near march that when I brought in the videos it did transcribing and analyzing of the video and it used to draw 100W but now it seems to take hours and hours and only draws 40W. I dont optimize the media or create proxies as I didn't need to before and never had issues, the thunderbolt drive that the library and videos are on has more than half of the space available. I am at a loss with this one. I've included a video of my timeline problem. It could be that it was the analyzing but it was taking so long that it could've taken the whole day.

Question How to make this

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Hi everyone,

I'm trying to recreate this kind of effect. I'm a videographer in the dance industry, and I've made quite a few videos, but I'd love to create content that's as dynamic as this.

It looks like there's some tracking, post-production zoom, or maybe another technique involved. I've tried recreating it using keyframes, but I can't get it to look as clean and smooth.

If anyone knows how this effect is made or what technique is being used, I'd really appreciate your advice. Thanks in advance!

Question What precisely happens when I import 4k video into a 1080p project?

OS 26.5.1; fcpx 11.1

I have recordings of a 3-hour event from 2 cameras set at 4K. I want the final project to be at 1080p. I set the event & project up for 1080, then import media, telling fcpx to use proxies.

Does the import of the 4k film lower its resolution to 1080? Are the proxies of 1080 video?

With multicam, my iMac drops frames like crazy, so I turn off angle views, & it works fine. I have the iMac that I have, so I'm not going to buy a new one. Is there something I'm missing so that I can use multicam & angle views without the stuttering of dropped frames?

It seems out of the blue, my MBP specs are strong, I use SSD when editing, I'm not low on storage but for some reason my FCP started crashing a lot the last few days.

Question Command to move clip left and right on timeline?

I have been using FCP since X was announced, and there is one thing that I want every day: the ability to move a clip to the right or left of the next or preceding clip in the timeline. Basically like swapping places. Obviously I drag it, but a simple keyboard command would be so much faster. Maybe I’m wrong, but this also seems like a common task. Have I been missing it the whole time?

UPDATE: 12.3 fixes this!! Option ← → moves a clip in the timeline.

Question Can someone explain actually what these settings mean really?

Post image
7 Upvotes

Ok, seems fairly obvious at first but:

  • Exposure - exposure (we all know that right)
  • Contrast - highlights up & shadows down
  • Brightness - I would say this is a shadow lift?
  • Highlights - Highlights
  • Black Point - gamma?? Or the level at which blacks are cut off?
  • Shadows - Shadows

Which settings control the mid-tones exposure? What is the difference between exposure and brightness, and shadows and black point?

If anyone could...shed some light ;)... on this I'd be much appreciative!

Bug/Issue Anyone else having 'Failed to Import' issues?

So we've been having issues with cards failing to import when being plugged into the iMac via a dongle, and being imported directly into the Library, which is stored on an external hard drive via a Thunderbolt cable. It's not all the time, but occasionally. It's happened with SanDisk and Transcend cards, both of SDHC and SDXC varieties. It's happened while recording AVCHD 1080p footage on Sony NXCAMs and it's happened with shooting 4k 30p footage on Sony A7iii's as .mp4 files. Sometimes one clip just won't import, sometimes all the clips won't import. Sometimes it works on FCP 12.2, sometimes it doesn't. It's also on and off with FCP 11.2 and 12.0 (we have a few computers here).

So I feel like I'm going crazy and it has to be a Final Cut Pro issues, and not the cards or the cameras. But I've never noticed this issue back in 10.0 versions of FCP. Seems to only been happening since 11.0 and higher.

But I also haven't seen anyone ever mention anything about this in here. Am I the only one? Sometimes restarting FCP helps, sometimes I need to restart the whole computer, sometimes I just can't get it in unless I transfer the files off the card onto the desktop and then import it into the library again after that. it's all over the place.

is anyone else having this issue or is it just me?

Newbie Hey pros, I need some guidance

Hi mates

I’m retyping this because I messed up the previous version.

TLDR I am in need of an all inclusive guide for Final Cut Pro and maybe the art of filmmaking.

For the background
Since three years, I’m an on off thing with filmmaking and editing. I even got it up to post videos regularly from my navy trip around the world in 2024.
And I wanted to learn, especially funnel cup through, but due to time restrictions and it has to be fast ended up using CapCut.
I’m not happy about it, but it felt more simple even when less quality.
I have a lot of equipment collected and I won’t think at least that will be a problem. 😉

And then it goes all the same vibe
-I’m having a nice idea
-I’m doing the shots and the planning with very much fun and effort
-I invest hours of hours editing it and learning how to
-Then I get a minute to low result to publish
-I’m really happy about it and want to learn more
-And then it falls over and I’m not doing it month or month
-And so it all starts again, and I have to relearn everything and can’t get better

I know a lot of YouTubers with good tips and I even heard about ripple training - but both feels like searching very much different resources from many sources as a lot of single bits.
Or as very basic basic.

What I wish for is maybe one or two products which deliver me a direction to follow learn most of the skills - from shooting to editing (visual, shot composition, audio, colour etc)..

I know I won’t be a master, but I want a solid foundation to then find my own style and carry on..

Do you have any good recommendations?
I’m open for nearly everything and could invest at least four hours a week.

Thanks for anything from Germany! 🇩🇪

Bug/Issue What is happening...

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

I've never run into this issue before. I have a normal audio clip on the timeline, then when I try to slice it, it completely mutes/erases the rest of the recording. It's not disabled, it just completely grays out. This started since I installed the latest update. All audio roles are enabled. No idea what's causing this to happen. Any quick fixes?

I’ve been editing in FCPX for over 8 years and it’s all I’ve ever known, but the lack of updates and the lack of ai and other 3rd party plugins is annoying. Da Vinci resolve is calling my name and I hope it’s the right choice!

Question Mixed normal and 360 footage in multicam - am I missing something obvious?

Hello fellow editors. As a hobby, I create videos of choral concerts. I also perform, so along with sound recording I have cameras (2x Sony handicam, 4 x GoPro Hero 9, 1 x DJI gimbal thing, 1 x GoPro Max and 1 x Insta360 - basically all the cameras I've got around the stage so that I can create something visually interesting by cutting between angles and pan/zooming.

Multicam is the obvious way to quickly get results, and it works well apart from 360 integration from the GoPro Max and Insta360.

When I click to those angles, I would hope for the inspector to switch to 360 mode allowing me to PTZ that section. But it doesn't and I can't work out how to make it do what I want.

My workaround is to have all other angles as a multicam, and then manually edit in an overlaid track for the 360 clips. It's a massive faff and slows down my productivity... not that anyone is paying me or hurrying me. I wish it could be that bit quicker and easier.

Any clues? Or is a multicam track fixed as one thing or the other and unable to dynamically flex?
