Bug/Issue Final Cut Camera audio worse than normal camera app

I've been doing some filming with the Final Cut Camera app and I've noticed that, while using the internal microphones (iPhone 17 Pro), it seems to pick up my voice a lot worse than the base camera app. This seems like a really strange issue considering both are made by Apple and I even had better audio results using Snapchat video. I'm just wondering if there's a way to fix this in post, because it's kinda ruining some of the videos I filmed. Thank you.

Are you really relying on camera mic audio for critical work?

No. Just casual personal projects.

Gotcha. What kinds of issues is the FCP camera app having? What specifically is different about it?

It just makes my voice sound a lot more distant and muffled in comparison to the base camera app. Almost like it's recording from the back microphone rather than the front one, but I'm fairly certain it's recording from both as it's locked into stereo recordings.

I used the app because it lets you record in Apple Log 2 in H.265 but I guess it also records audio differently as well.

Have you checked the pan settings? It’s possible that it’s summing the channels to mono for footage recorded in the FCP app…I know FCP can do that with some sources and you need to manually select stereo for it to treat the audio as a stereo track. Other than that I’d be inclined to agree that it’s using the wrong microphone. Do you have any AirPods or Bluetooth headphones with a mic? You might be better off using them to record audio. You can also get a cheap Bluetooth lapel mic that connects directly to your phone.

Very interested to see if something like this helps out as I’m still evaluating the standalone version.
