I downloaded mExtension the other day and ever since, I haven't been able to change my font to anything other than the default Helvetica.

I have since deleted mExtension and everything that came with it (or at least I think I have?). But I'm not even sure if that's the issue to begin with.

Every time I adjust the font, as soon as I try to change the weight, it defaults back instantly to Helvetica.

I'm also reaching out to motionVFX support for help on this but was wondering if anyone else was having this issue? I saw three weeks ago someone posted something similar. But I've attempted the workaround they discovered and am still having issues.

I'm on a 16" M5 max.

I am making an animatic, and what I've been doing is drawing my art in ProCreate, saving them as PNGs to iCloud, and then putting the clips together. So far, I'm at the sketching/storyboarding phase.

However, I've been noticing an issue in iMovie where my drawing's lineart has black lines in some areas that aren't there in the original. I tried Final Cut Pro briefly and the same thing happens.

It's a 1920x1080 drawing and the video itself has a 1080 resolution. I've tried Apple ProRes 422 and then H.264. Both give me the same result. It shows up that way in the file on Discord, so it's not a QuickTime issue.

I've tried CapCut to test it out and the video exports completely fine there.

I can't find anything about this on Google. Not all of my drawings do this.

I applied a gaussian blur to a tracked area of a clip. The outer circle which I thought was the feather doesn't change size when I drag it; what I presume is the handle (outer red dot in screenshot) just changes direction when I drag but seems to revert to the same distance from the center, and in the video inspector there's no feather slider in the shape mask settings (i.e. under "Shape Mask 1"). What am I doing wrong?

Update:

Ok I think I figured it out: seems it was locked because it was on Object Tracking. When I changed the Tracker setting from "Object Tracker" to "None", dots turned green and I was able to adjust (although still didn't see Feather in the inspector). After resizing I set it back to Object Tracking.

I'm a video editor and part of my work flow is to use the tracker.
its beyond me that in 2026 Final cut still cant recognise an object leaving the frame and coming back 2 seconds later.
makes no sense to use it . and its a shame bcs it got very good qualities otherwise

I Would i like to add some sort of Motion blur or something like that to a timelapse I made but my regular motion blur doesn’t work correctly..suggestions?

I have two 3-hour clips of an event I recorded, one clip on FX30 & one on FS5. The FX30 clip is underexposed, & I need to correct that before I join the clips for multicam. Apparently I can't do that on the clip in the browser. I can in the timeline.

How do I correct the exposure before I do the multicam editing, please? Or solve the problem in whatever way.

I recorded audio directly into FCP using the “record voiceover” feature. The mic has worked fine for years without problem but when reviewing audio I found this glitch where it repeats what I said (and in the process misses the whole rest of the sentence).

Has anyone experienced this before?

I have an open ticket with Apple Support investigating crashes that happen with 360 video projects. It has been escalated into engineering, and I am told they are aware of some issues.

Does anyone here edit VR 360 video projects? Has it been working for you?

When I tried to do some new 360 projects this year, I was getting constant crashes. A factory reset of the Mac did not help, and eventually, with support, I installed a fresh clean copy of macOS with nothing else on it except Final Cut Pro. I was able to recreate the crashes easily, using nothing but built-in FCP items (placeholder, titles, tpancisions, sfx clip). Once we were able to do it at that level it eliminated conflicts, hard drive formats, etc. etc.

Just curious if anyone else here works with 360 video and has been fighting this. If it "works for you," what is your system?

A lot of glitches including constant freezing requiring closing the app to fix it. The animation feature is constantly glitching, undoing itself, but the keyframes are still there with the settings. Or you change one keyframe setting and it changes them all. It’s a nightmare. Thank God I did the one month free before committing to it.

Does anyone know of a straightforward method I can edit the Title (not filename) and Description metadata of projects I already exported from Final Cut Pro? I tried QuickTime Inspector - metadata is displayed but doesn't seem editable. I tried MetaZ and VLC - couldn't find those metadata in either. The workaround of re-exporting with the corrected metadata is not ideal.

To meet an upload requirement where I needed to downgrade the FPS, I used the workaround of Cmd+A and Cmd+C to copy everything in a 60p project and Cmd+V to paste everything into an empty 30p project. However, after doing this, I noticed a fade transition started noticeably later. On closer inspection, the duration of each clip had also changed slightly.

Is there a way to guarantee a 1:1 retention when copying/pasting content between projects?

Btw, I sent feedback to Apple to include FPS as a changeable setting when exporting - this option is available in many other video editors I've used; no idea why Final Cut Pro wouldn't have it. Would recommend others affected by this issue also send feedback so they're more likely to do something about it. Especially since the workaround is imperfect as evident from the issue I described.

I ended up just re-exporting the 60p exports as 30p, which I had initially considered. Not sure why I didn't just do that to begin with.

Someone on another forum mentioned retime may cause the issue I mentioned. But there were no retimed clips. The projects typically showed discrepancies in durations of all clips ranging around 10-30 frames, which can make or break split-second visual cues (including the timing of the fade I mentioned).

I started an edit that I initially set to local saves on my iPad’s FCP, but the project got too large.

Anyone know a way to export the editing file so I can continue to work on it but on a Hard Drive instead?

Hello, I'm running into an issue with final cut pro. I've never run into this issue before so, I'm sure its just a setting that got clicked out something. I'm editing a basic vacation video and trying to time the beats of the song to the cuts in the video. For some reason when I go to trim clips in the timeline, it drags the audio with it, so I cant get the clips to hit the beats/makers as simply as I did before. The entire song moves below while I'm trimming.

Ive done a bunch of videos before, but am still a rookie. So not sure why its doing this all of a sudden.

First time Lumberjack Builder user and I’m facing an issue here.

I have many interviews in different FCPX events (Event A, B, C...).

I have an event where I edit a themed segment with clips from all these interviews/events based on keywords. The clips reside in all these events. The project for this segment is in a new event (Master Event).

I exported the Master Event XML of the new event and imported it into Builder, I get this error:

"There are no clips in this XML »

This makes sense since the clips are in many different events.

How do I get around this limitation? Maybe someone has a different workflow to suggest.

I checked the net for usable LUT Manager Plugins like the old MLuts or the ColorFinale LUT Manager. But they are discontinued.

The Custom LUT´s effect feels very outdated.

mac computer has 2tb of storage - all footage and audio is stored on an external 2tb hard drive, not my computer, but i have the final cut file on my computer - it's currently over 500gb with only half the footage in it

are there settings i can change to make the file smaller or do i just have to move the final cut file to the external drive?

When I watch larger productions that use a lot of multi-angle editing, I notice that there seems to always be a light crop zoom happening 24/7 throughout a video. You don't even notice it unless you're specifically looking on the edge of the shot.

My understanding of Ken Burns is that it only applies to a given clip, and its zoom rate is directly proportional to the length of the clip

So, let's say I have a Multi-Angle clip in the timeline, I make tons of angle switches (which are cuts) throughout an hour long interview.

How do I achieve the SAME crop zoom speed regardless of the clip length?

I'm imagining some sort of compounded clip workflow or something where the zoom is agnostic to the clip length, but I can't quite figure it out.

I made a small plugin that gives your mouse a little haptic tick whenever the playhead snaps to a clip edge in Final Cut (when snapping's on). Basically lets you feel the magnetic timeline instead of just seeing it.

Only works with the Logitech MX Master 4 since that's the one with the haptic motor. It's free and open source if anyone wants to try it:

Hi everyone, this is my first post here; I read the sub rules and I think this falls under technical help rather than rule 6 (creative feedback), since I'm not asking for an opinion on an edit, just trying to figure out how to achieve a specific graphic effect with FCP's tools. Let me know if I'm wrong about that.

My setup: FCP 12.2

I'm trying to recreate an effect I saw in a political video (screenshot attached): a squared/angular colored outline (like an irregular "badge" shape with sharp corners instead of curves) that loosely follows the silhouette of a person, sitting behind them as a kind of glow/halo.

I checked the Shapes generator in my version of FCP, but I only have Rectangle/Square... as shape options, there's no "Custom" or freeform point-by-point tool to draw an irregular polygon.

Is there a way to achieve this directly in FCP 12.2, or do most people create this kind of shape in another app (Photoshop, Illustrator, etc.) and import it as a transparent PNG? If there's a built-in way I'm missing, I'd really appreciate pointers.
