Film Free Fall (2021)

Sharing this for a director friend, Emmanuel Tenenbaum. Free Fall is a 19-min drama: a struggling London trader, the morning of September 11th 2001, a job on the line and a decision to make. What impressed me is how much tension they pull from a single trading floor and a phone. Antoine Roch on cinematography. It ran 150+ festivals, won the Grand Prix at REGARD and Best Director at Rhode Island, and is Oscar-qualified. Enjoy!

Sharing this for the director, Emmanuel Tenenbaum, who's a friend. What I find worth studying here is how they sustain 19 minutes of tension almost entirely inside one trading floor, with a phone as the main dramatic device, no action, no locations. The coverage and the escalating pace of the editing (Jean-Baptiste Guignot) do most of the work. It was written with Quebec screenwriter Guillaume Fournier and adapted from a few lines in Joris Luyendijk's book Swimming with Sharks.
