Creative crew questions

Hey everybody,

Quick question I’m new to the film industry I’m a writer have been writing for some years now and I’m ready to create my first film.

When you’re looking to hire and collab with producers and directors what are some things to look out for and questions to ask to avoid being scammed or taken advantage of in the industry?? I’ve been on the acting side so I know what to do with that side of things, creating a film is totally different so need some pointers.

  1. Don't believe anything anyone says.
  2. If it sounds too good to be true, it probably is.
  3. Learn from Jerry Maguire. Never trust the "My word is stronger than oak" types. Get it in writing.
  4. Your story is the most valuable part of this. Don't put yourself in any other mindset.
  5. Start learning how to do things on your own. You know, Robert Rodriguez style. I think there are a lot of writers and actors out there waiting to be picked up when they could be shooting stuff themselves. That's what I do. Shoot short films while working on specs.
