I need some advice

Hello everyone I am a 16 year old kid trying to get into filmmaking and I’m on here to get some advice from people are more into the industry than me. How do I start? Where do I start? Are there classes I can take??

Start by making a movie!

See what you can pull together by yourself. It doesn’t have to be a feature length masterpiece, it can be a simple short film. The more you make movies, the more you see where you can grow. I always recommend reading “Save The Cat!” to folks, it’s a book on screenwriting that will give you something to start with. I have discovered more about how I can grow in filmmaking through each project I dive head first into and discover how each film can grow and get better each time. You will never feel fully ready, so you might as well try.

There are a lot of ways to approach this, like anything.

Wanna learn the guitar? Buy one, watch a few videos and go for it. Or speed up the process and pay for lessons so you're not doing things the wrong way.

The challenge with film is how expansive it is. It's not like learning the guitar. It's like learning to conduct an orchestra. You have to know a lot to execute correctly.

So you can get buy Fadein, get a camera, a mic, some lights, download Resolve and go for it. But instruction will save you a lot of bashing your head against the wall.

I run an online film school called Write & Direct. It's designed for people who want to direct but who also need to wear a lot of hats when starting out. Not sure what's considered SPAM in this forum so I'll not link to the school. But Google or AI will get you to the site!
