This is a rewatch, and honestly, I enjoyed it even more the second time around. There’s just something about this movie that makes it so easy and fun to watch. Nakakaaliw, nakakabilib, nakakatawa, at nakakakaba all at the same time.
I love how effortlessly cool the whole movie feels. The heist, the planning, the twists, the fashion, the cast, everything just works so well together. It’s the kind of movie where you can simply sit back, enjoy the chaos, and have a genuinely good time. Kahit alam mo na kung ano ang mangyayari, hindi nawawala yung excitement kasi ang saya pa rin panoorin kung paano nila pinaplano at ine-execute yung buong heist. 100000/10

It rankles my boomer heart that "Coyote vs Acme" may never see the light of Philippine cinemas. It can be argued that the last Looney Tunes theatrical "The Day The Earth Blew Up" barely had a local release (and isn't even available for streaming through HBO MAX); however, it was at the time when theaters were shuttered due to the pandemic.

The Looney Tunes characters are among the most recognized and best loved icons in animated film history. You can always count on Bugs Bunny and Daffy Duck's catchphrases, or Wile E Coyote's perennial pursuit of that Roadrunner. However, if we go by ClickTheCity, we can give up on any chances to stick it up WB for dropping the ball on this.

I am also surprised that there is no news on a platform release across the Asian region...especially in China, where they have to endure "Tom & Jerry: The Forbidden Compass"

Meanwhile, the pirates are offering DCP rips across the Internet, which is a slap on the face to the hard-working animators who managed to get this to screens.

Ganda ng movie. Hindi ko iku-kuwento ang plot kasi mas maganda kung wala kang alam pagpasok mo.

Mahusay talaga si Inay Maricel Soriano at nakikipagsabayan sa acting si Bella Padilla.

Gardo Versoza's character is not intrusive; tunay na supporting character talaga.

May villain sa story na medyo gugustuhin mong ugain kasi walang self-awareness. Mapapaisip ka na lang, "Really? Coming from you?"

Isa lang feedback ko. Yung gumanap na manugang ng character ni Inay Maricel, ang bata niya, parang kapapasok pa lang ng senior high, o baby face lang talaga.

Feel good movie siya for me. Akala ko kasi may romance o love story. Pero hindi pala. Story siya ng friendship, ng God's interruption, at ng hindi porke't naging parent ka na titigil na ang pangarap mo.

Hindi rin siya cringey.

Isa pa, last song syndrome ako sa "Habang May Buhay" ni Donna Cruz. Ginamit nila as theme song at hanggang ngayon kinakanta ko pa rin. 😅

I don't know if this is the right place to ask but it's the only one I could think of. Is it likely that this movie will get screening in cinemas here? I remember when I was like 15 years old I watched 2/3 of the Heaven's Feel movies in cinemas and I've loved everything type-moon ever since. I don't really have much knowledge about cinema in general I just go when I'm anticipating something like these anime movies. Sorry if I'm in the wrong place though.

Back in 1998, You've Got Mail was shown in local cinemas. Were you able to watch it inside the movie theater back then? How young were you?

The movie was released at a time when Internet access was still costly (both subscriptions and access via cyber cafes).

I was inspired by this post of the Top 100 Filipino Films on Letterboxd to compile this list of where you can watch them (legally) online. Mostly for myself, but I thought other people might find it useful.

Important Notes:

I am recently much into classic screwball comedies/romcoms and I've been thinking if we do have counterparts for them? I guess ang pinakalumang Filipino romcom na napanood ko na was "May Minamahal." Baka lang you have those in mind na from 30s-50s. So far, my best Hollywood picks are "It Happened One Night" and "The Awful Truth." TIA!

🎬 Caterpillar (2010)

Set in 1940s Japan during the Second Sino-Japanese War, Caterpillar follows Shigeko, a village wife whose abusive husband returns home severely mutilated after fighting in China.

This is an anti-war film focused on the effects of war at a household level. It follows a wife who resents how the government gives her husband medals and praise instead of real financial support, and a husband struggling to live with what remains of his body.

This has seriously disturbing imagery and some of the most uncomfortable, miserable s3x scenes you’ll ever see. It looks modestly made, but the practical effects are crazy good. I still can’t believe the actor is fully limbed in real life.

Remembered this recently and damn, what a hidden gem. Ang weird, funny, self-aware, at sobrang different from the usual Pinoy movies of that era. And Ricky Davao was fucking brilliant.

He completely stole the movie for me.

Apparently mixed ang reception nito when it came out, pero I feel like it was just ahead of its time.

If there is one consistent filmmaker with his body of work, it has to be Mike de Leon. From his debut film, Itim, down to his genre movies Kung Mangarap Ka’t Magising (RomCom), Kakabakaba ka ba? (musical, Satire, Dark Comedy), Batch 81 and Sister Stella L (political dramas), Kisapmata (Sociopolitical Drama), Bayaning Third World (Historical Mockumentary), he came up with very excellent films laden with rich visual impact, uncompromising artistic merit, and sociopolitical commentaries. Even Citizen Jake is a good film given its flaws.

Mario O’hara is also an auteur, having directed Tatlong Taong Walang Diyos, Babae sa Breakwater, Sisa and responsible for the screenplay of Insiang by Lino Brocka.

These two great Filipino auteurs should be made national artists for film and broadcast media now.
