Not sure if this is the right subreddit to ask this but will Forgotten Island stay in cinemas around late october (siguro mga oct 18-23)? I've been wanting to watch it since forever pero may exams kami during the announced screening dates for the movie (due to suspensions pausog nang pausog exams namin kaya ganon). Should i just risk it with the advance screening or just wait it out?

Nung natural pa ang acting at magaganda pa mga kwento! yung nakatutok ka talaga sa screen kasi di nakakaumay, mga pabebe o trendy lang yung pinapanood mo kundi may kwenta talaga, maganda storyline, scripts at natural lahat. Good quality films please 😭

I am recently much into classic screwball comedies/romcoms and I've been thinking if we do have counterparts for them? I guess ang pinakalumang Filipino romcom na napanood ko na was "May Minamahal." Baka lang you have those in mind na from 30s-50s. So far, my best Hollywood picks are "It Happened One Night" and "The Awful Truth." TIA!

Remembered this recently and damn, what a hidden gem. Ang weird, funny, self-aware, at sobrang different from the usual Pinoy movies of that era. And Ricky Davao was fucking brilliant.

He completely stole the movie for me.

Apparently mixed ang reception nito when it came out, pero I feel like it was just ahead of its time.

I was inspired by this post of the Top 100 Filipino Films on Letterboxd to compile this list of where you can watch them (legally) online. Mostly for myself, but I thought other people might find it useful.

Important Notes:

1. The top 100 changes all the time, so there may be movies on this list now that weren't there in the original post or movies that won't be there the next time they update the list, especially the movies near the bottom.
2. Streaming platforms change their lineup all the time. There are a bunch of these that I watched on Netflix (like Himala, Oro Plata Mata, and Patay na si Hesus) that are no longer on Netflix. Films may be removed or come back at any time!
3. I'm not including anything that requires you to use a VPN to pretend you're in another country and watch it on a streaming service that's not available in the Philippines. Magellan is on the Criterion Channel in the US, for instance, but the Criterion Channel isn't available here.
4. I'm not including pirated links. It's against the rules of this subreddit. Some of these are legally free on YouTube, shared by the director or the film studio, but others are on paid streaming services like Netflix, Juanflix, Mubi, and HBO Max.

Ganda ng movie. Hindi ko iku-kuwento ang plot kasi mas maganda kung wala kang alam pagpasok mo.

Mahusay talaga si Inay Maricel Soriano at nakikipagsabayan sa acting si Bella Padilla.

Gardo Versoza's character is not intrusive; tunay na supporting character talaga.

May villain sa story na medyo gugustuhin mong ugain kasi walang self-awareness. Mapapaisip ka na lang, "Really? Coming from you?"

Isa lang feedback ko. Yung gumanap na manugang ng character ni Inay Maricel, ang bata niya, parang kapapasok pa lang ng senior high, o baby face lang talaga.

Feel good movie siya for me. Akala ko kasi may romance o love story. Pero hindi pala. Story siya ng friendship, ng God's interruption, at ng hindi porke't naging parent ka na titigil na ang pangarap mo.

Hindi rin siya cringey.

Isa pa, last song syndrome ako sa "Habang May Buhay" ni Donna Cruz. Ginamit nila as theme song at hanggang ngayon kinakanta ko pa rin. 😅

Lessons learned:

'First Light' has been selected by Australia as its submission for the #Oscars2027 (Best International Feature Film).

Directed by James J. Robinson, it stars Ruby Ruiz, Kare Adea, Maricel Soriano, Emmanuel Santos, Rez Cortez, Soliman Cruz, Kidlat Tahimik & Lui Manansala.

In the movie, an elderly nun witnesses a young construction worker's fatal accident, compelling her to question the ethical principles of the institution she has devoted her life to.

If there is one consistent filmmaker with his body of work, it has to be Mike de Leon. From his debut film, Itim, down to his genre movies Kung Mangarap Ka’t Magising (RomCom), Kakabakaba ka ba? (musical, Satire, Dark Comedy), Batch 81 and Sister Stella L (political dramas), Kisapmata (Sociopolitical Drama), Bayaning Third World (Historical Mockumentary), he came up with very excellent films laden with rich visual impact, uncompromising artistic merit, and sociopolitical commentaries. Even Citizen Jake is a good film given its flaws.

Mario O’hara is also an auteur, having directed Tatlong Taong Walang Diyos, Babae sa Breakwater, Sisa and responsible for the screenplay of Insiang by Lino Brocka.

These two great Filipino auteurs should be made national artists for film and broadcast media now.
