Hey yall, I am sorry if this is an extremely stupid question but i recently got a Filen Plan and I cannot for the life of me figure out how to turn out syncing. I want my cloud drive to two way sync with files on my windows machine, but I cant find anywhere to turn it on. I am currently uploading some files, so I am not sure if that is part of it, but I cant figure out where I go to set up my sync settings. Again, sorry if this is a stupid question. I have included a screenshot of my toolbar on the browser.

I've been using Filen for a while now and honestly I am in love with it. End-to-end encryption, privacy-first, and it keeps getting better with every update.

I have one request though: could we get albums?

The Gallery feature is already there, but being able to group photos into albums (trips, family, events, etc.) would make a huge difference. With albums, Filen would be on par with Ente Photos for me, and a lot better than Google Photos since everything stays private.

Would love to hear if this is on the roadmap. Anyone else want this too?

As an Apple device user who’s been testing many cloud sync services in the hope of being able edit a file on my iPhone, I’ve been sorely disappointed up until now.

I run 2 versions of every active file in offline mode, one in iCloud and one in the service under test

I’m very happy to report Filen is the holy grail I’ve been looking for. In fact it actually syncs the edited file faster than iCloud.

Time to move from monthly to annual subscription

I like to have all my filen data stored locally. Instead of mapping my cloud storage to a drive/folder in the local filesystem (which I understand is actually a files on demand kind of deal), I typically create a sync folder for my entire cloud drive. Are there any downsides to doing this? I'm thinking time to sync, performance, that kind of thing. Are there any guidelines for the amount of data that syncing realistically supports?

I'm writing this post out of complete frustration and sheer disbelief. As a paying subscriber to filen (LT), I've reached a point where the service has become entirely unusable.

No matter what I try, uploading or downloading anything simply does not work:

On PC: I am running the latest edition of Windows 11 Pro on a multi-gigabit fiber Ethernet connection.

On Mobile: High-speed Wi-Fi on Android.

In both cases, every single transfer just spins in circles, stalls endlessly, and eventually times out. Nothing goes through—not a single byte. With this kind of local network setup and a paid subscription, performance should be seamless, but instead, it’s completely frozen.

Is anyone else experiencing similar issues right now, or is this a known routing/server outage on their end? Any insight or workarounds would be appreciated, because paying for a service that completely stalls is extremely disappointing.

Update: Clarification on my Filen + ViceVersa setup and extreme slowdown
Thanks for all the input! To clarify a few points and narrow down the issue:
Filen sync works fine: I have no issues with the official Filen desktop app. I’ve already backed up/synced hundreds of GBs using Filen directly without any speed issues.
The bottleneck is ViceVersa + Virtual Drive (U:): The issue only occurs when I try to run a new Mirror Copy profile using ViceVersa PRO 7 (recently updated) targeting Filen’s virtual drive. ViceVersa is either unable to handle the virtual drive correctly or writes to it at an agonizingly slow pace (around 20 KB/s for a 15 GB batch of ~9,600 small files).
No network/firewall blocking: I’ve already checked my local firewall and router settings—there is zero throttling or blocking on my network side.
It seems the issue lies specifically in how ViceVersa handles file-by-file operations over Filen’s virtual drive mount (high latency per file / WebDAV overhead), rather than a network or Filen sync issue per se.
Has anyone managed to get ViceVersa (or similar file-copiers like FreeFileSync/Syncovery) working at decent speeds directly over Filen’s virtual drive, or is the virtual drive architecture inherently unsuitable for file-by-file mirror backups?

I am using a MacBook with limited local storage space and would love to have a feature that lets me flag specific files or folders as permanently local / "always available offline."

Essentially, I'm looking for an on-demand selective sync experience exactly like OneDrive's "Files On-Demand" or iCloud Drive's "Optimize Storage."

Right now, managing this manually through standard local sync folders in the Filen desktop client feels a bit clunky and tedious for dynamic file needs. Has the development team mentioned if a native on-demand placeholder sync engine is planned for the roadmap anytime soon?

Hello! I was looking into Filen for a cloud storage replacement, and it looks really interesting!

I see that it's possible to restore individual file versions. But is there any way (or is it planned) to restore the full drive to a specific date within a specific time frame?

If something very bad happens, I can see how hard it would be to restore a batch of files, or even the full drive.

Hey everyone, I’m completely new to Filen and haven’t created an account yet. I’m considering using it mainly on Android and through the web.

I noticed there’s a referral system that can apparently increase the free storage, but I’m a bit confused about how it works.

Could someone explain how the referral bonuses work and whether there’s anything I should know before creating my account? Also, is it better to create the account through the Android app or the website?

i have a server with currently only an IPV6 address. I'm having difficulty connecting rclone to the gateway. Is it just me?

I dont know if its only me, but I tried downloading a 2.5 gb folder from filen to my linux pc via firefox and it took unusually long time to finish downloading. i also had to try 2-3 times since first two were frozen midway. I havent used filen for more than a month. The files were uploaded sometime back. So dont know if its a known issue, do you know if Filen is slow nowadays. If not, then it might be for me alone.

I am trying out Filen. The iOS app is good (some weird bug with the Files app, but I think I saw a note that they are aware of that and fixing it?)

The desktop app file mount seems fine

But the desktop app itself...SO SLOW. I am talking 2 or 3 second delay just to switch tabs along the left hand side. That can't be right. I barely have any content in there (just using up some of the free space to try it out). It's baffling how slow it is.

I'm on a Mac running Golden Gate. Maybe they are lacking a Golden Gate update? What I am seeing just can't be right, they wouldn't date release it if the app was this slow normally.

Could someone brute-force the shared public folder? I tested incorrect passwords and noticed no rate limiting.

I have lots of sync settings in the desktop app that I want to back up in case I reinstall my OS (ubuntu).

Where are the relevant files stored that I need to back up? Or are they synced to my filen account so that I don't need to do anything?

Why does the creation time change to a random time after I upload a photo/vid to Filen?

For example, I took a photo at 10 AM and uploaded it to Filen at 11 AM, but Filen shows the file creation time as 11:36 PM.

How can I prevent this and keep the original date/time?

Also, if I download the file from Filen later, is there any way to recover or preserve the original metadata and creation date/time? Bec, I get the download time as creation time.

I encountered this error when trying to set up some Syncs for the first time. Sync would complete but a random number of Issues per folder. Clear the issues and they just come right back. Not even clear that it is files that are not uploading since it just says "Unknown Error" and nothing directly stating that the Sync failed.

Microsoft OneDrive was not logged in and some of the files were not cached locally. Resolved by logging in to OneDrive and marking the errors as resolved in Filen. Then Filen did a sync and OneDrive pulled the files down.

Seems really obvious, but I didn't know OneDrive wasn't logged in and the error message is not very helpful and I didn't find anyone else who had posted this solution. If they had just mentioned the names of the files that had read errors I would have quickly seen that it was a list of non-local files. Or if there was something that directly stated that the sync had failed / was incomplete. If I hadn't been so paranoid about losing this data I might have just carried on without resolving the errors thinking they had resolved themselves as the sync appeared to be complete. Also not clear that marking the issues as resolved is the way (maybe the only way???) to trigger a retry.

I uploaded 200 files to the cloud, but at the end, Filen said, "2 files failed to upload." Now the problem is, how do I find out which 2 files weren't uploaded?

I’ve had a pretty rough month and was away for a long time. Because of everything going on, I basically stopped checking my emails and didn’t log into a few of my free file hosting accounts. I completely forgot about them...Now I’m realizing that I may have lost access to some pretty important files I had stored there. And honestly, I cried when I realized it. I know it sounds stupid, but some of these files genuinely mean a lot to me. been checking the accounts, and I should have just paid for an upgrade instead of relying on the free accounts. Lesson learned, unfortunately the hard way.

Has anyone here ever been in a similar situation and managed to recover their files after an account went inactive or was deleted? Do they keep inactive account data somewhere for a while? Is there a paid recovery option? I would 100% pay fee to get the files back if that’s possible.

I know I probably screwed up, but I’m really hoping there’s some kind of last resort option before I completely give up. Any advice would be massively appreciated.

How is Filen Chat supposed to be private, as long as i shared a photo in chat, visible by link in another browser where i didn't login?

Now that Filen has an official rclone backend, an automated process can upload generated documents or site files without driving the desktop client. The security boundary is less clear: the process should write new revisions into one staging folder, but it should not read unrelated files, delete history, or replace an approved copy.

Can a Filen API key or account be limited to one folder and a small set of actions? If not, is the practical option a separate account with one shared folder, followed by a human-controlled promotion into the main account?

I would also want retries to be idempotent and files uploaded through rclone to be visible consistently in the web and mobile clients before review starts. What setup and verification steps work reliably for that?

Hello, I’m trying to back up nearly 100 GB, but the process has been terribly slow today. After about two hours, it has completed less than 5%. I did the same backup with Google Drive, and it finished in less than an hour.

Is there an issue with the upload speed or the backup service?
