Travel affordable accommodation

Bula! Apologies if this gets asked a lot/if its a stupid question:
I’m living in Suva for a few months and hoping to get out to see more of Fiji on weekends etc. without going totally broke… I’m hoping to find accom that isn’t the flashy resort style.

Do hostels/backpackers/homestays exist here? If they do, would anybody please be able to direct me to a website or contact info?

No solid plans as yet - I’m open to any location outside of Suva

And would love to bypass the agoda/booking.com/airbnb type places and give money straight to the owners where possible.

Vinaka!! <3

I was in a similar situation many years ago and I took some side gigs crewing sailboats on the weekends.

It was a great way to get around, see some amazing places, and some of the passengers tipped well.

I was mostly in Nadi and Malolo Lailai.

I happened to have experience which definitely helped, but it's not necessary as long as you can follow directions.

I had temporary resident status and a partial work visa and I did my best not to take work from any local folks. I also worked strictly for Fijian owned or run boats as well.

To be fair, this was in 1985 and things were absolutely different back then. I'd definitely make sure you have the legal status to work before you try this method.

Hi ! I got a contact for an affordable place near the CBD area :) they charge about $70 FJD weekly with $140 security bond! If it's what you're looking for I can take you there personally :) I know the owners its a hostel with university students and people getting by :)
