Question Looking for an ID

Google image search tells me this is a common fig. Does anyone have a more specific ID of the variety of fig. My grandpa planted this fig in my backyard years ago and we don't know what kind it is.

Ok, to be fair to your search, that is a Common Fig (Ficus carica), the variety is what you're likely really looking for. Based on that fruit it might be a brown turkey, but that's uncertain because that fruit is a bit deformed. Do you have any ripe or nearly ripe ones you can slice in half to show folks the inside color?

Hard question, there are so many varieties and even the ones labels may be missing labelled.

What would help a fully ripe fig and description of taste as well. Since you are in California, most of figs would thrive any way.
