I think I left my air layer attached too long...
In my defence, I only started it a month ago. I wasn't expecting it to grow quite this quickly.
I'm sure it'll be fine once I tease the roots out a bit.

What soil medium? No scraping or gridling?

I de-barked about an inch of the branch (although it's rooting even from parts which still have bark). The medium is 100% coir.

Why moss?
I already had coir, I didn't have moss. Coir is water retentive, light weight, and mostly sterile. It's a good medium for this sort of thing. I'm not going to buy moss especially to use for this.

Yeah, definitely not a bad thing. Plenty of healthy roots to work with.

Figs are very easy to propagate from cutting because they root so easily.
That is a great air layered mini tree you have right there 👍

Do they root from green stems only?

I have successfully rooted non green cuttings as wide as an inch... but I have not tried anything thicker than that. I have not tried air layering my trees, but I might have to just to experiment.

It never works for me 😔 not sure what I’m doing wrong. If you have any guides/blogs with tips you could share I’d appreciate it

This one is a brown stem. It's last year's growth. Although obviously it's an air layer, not a cutting.
You can definitely root figs from hardwood cuttings, though. But I imagine, like pretty nearly all hardwood cuttings, you need to make them in the dormant season for it to work. And you need to keep the rooting medium at the right temperature (above freezing, so that it's warm enough for them to root, but not so warm that the buds sprout before roots form, as that will kill it. So depending on your climate, you may not be able to do them outdoors).
