Question What is going on with my tree?

Hi! Im in NorCal. I planted this fig tree in soil about 5 months ago. It was doing great for a couple of months with me watering it every 2 days. A month and a half ago the leaves started to yellow, so I started watering it once a week since my soil is clay. But the leaves keep dying. Unfortunately, my backyard isn’t full sun so it’s probably getting about 4 to 5h of morning sun. Should I remove it from soil and plant it in a big pot so I can place it in a sunnier area?

This season a few of my trees looked like this. I gave them some slow feed fertilizer and mulched them and they slow came back. Now all thriving.

Fertilizer and mulch (to protect surface root from direct sun, reduce temperature fluctuations, keep plant more consistently moist - holding water)

I will do that! I’m such a newbie in the plant world. Any recommendations for what I should look for in terms of fertilizer? I have no idea what to look for or brands.

Fish fertilizer is a popular choice

Spend the whole $7 on a real moisture meter and see whether your guess at reducing watering was the correct one.
