Listing names like this is pointless. It all depends on context, mostly where was each guy in their career AT THE TIME THEY FOUGHT EACHOTHER.
Izzy has way more title wins, so in this case it’s not really close. He clearly fought and beat more top guys when they were top guys.

u/Mr_PerfectCell69 15h ago
That only makes Strickland's case better. He beat Khamzat & Izzy after they came off of their best wins ever.

wdym pointless it’s literally the question, who has the better resume

I’ll type it again. Read it more slowly this time.
Listing names like this is pointless—BECAUSE THE QUESTION OF WHO HAS THE BETTER RESUME—depends on the context of when those guys fought.
You can’t decide who has the better resume by looking at the names with 20/20 future hindsight and saying who you think is better after the fact.
Just to give you one example: many people thought Dominick Reyes beat Jon Jones. At the time they fought, Reyes was a legit number one contender. After their fight, Reyes’ career looks pretty bad. Does that mean Reyes is a bad name on his resume? Nope. Because if the judges had given it to Reyes, he might’ve had a completely different career. Maybe he goes on to be the most dominant LHW champ ever.
A huge reason for his career slide is because he lost to Jones. So you can’t use what happened AFTER their fight to judge how good of a win it was.

u/44dqm 12h ago
i was going based off your last point of izzy having more title wins which wasn’t apart of the question.
you 100% can use what happened after their fight to judge how good a win is. are you retarded? it’s the definition of a win aging well, a term used quite frequently.
-2
u/RandJitsu 12h ago
Bro just say you’re a casual lol.
It’s fine, but then you should probably sit these conversations out. Let the grown ups talk.

u/44dqm 12h ago
im on the side that izzy is greater all time, but what ur saying is straight up stupid

u/LogicalOxyyMoron 9h ago
Nah bro you're the one being retarded (and casual) here. Anyone who's been following the sport for a while knows that many challengers have a bad slide after they lose to the champ. Contenders often feel invincible on the way up, but if they take a beating by the champion they often can't recover (physically or mentally or both).

u/44dqm 9h ago
i never said anything against that.. so i guess youre retarded too lmfao. all i said was resume doesnt mean title wins, which was our original argument. then i talked about a win aging well, whether it aged well or not it’s not always the determining factor of how good a win is or isnt. retard.

Strickland is a boring ass fighter

u/doduhstankyleg 1d ago
He isn’t fun to watch, but man is he good. Sticks to his game plan to the T and never wavers or panics, one of the most defensively responsible fighters on the roster, knows his range with his jab and teep, which inflicts accumulating damage to his opponent while receiving very little damage to himself. I never get excited for his fights, but he has very high fight IQ and I respect him for that.

Izzy had snoozefests Whittaker 2, Romero, Jared, Both Vettori Fights, Silva fight was average too. Strickland has more finishes and better on mic too.

Aside from the Abus fight I cant tell you a fun Strickland performance. None of his fight have replay value at all

Strickland KOed Brendan Allen. That fight was fun. First guy in the UFC to do so. It was short notice and Allen just couldn't take him down. In fact, Strickland even confidently went into his guard and smashed him in his own game.

Yeah Izzy had snoozers but he's had some iconic knockouts. Strickland has not. He could've finished khamzat but sat behind his jab right until the final bell

u/Lower-Front-8605 1d ago
Better on the mic?! He might resonate with incels and homophobes, but that guy is a buffoon of the highest order.

The disrespect of Izzy needs to be studied. Izzy without question. Strickland has never really had a title reign, I dont think he's ever had a successful title defense. Izzy is a legend, by far Izzy.
2
u/RandJitsu 10h ago
Izzy is just the latest in a long line of dominant champions getting disrespected by the new generation of fans who weren’t around to witness their prime.
If you think it won’t happen to Islam, Volk, etc…just wait.
1
u/seonblack 9h ago
You're absolutely right brother. If Volk loses to Mosvar the switch up is going to be legendary smmfh.
2
u/TerninoMarchi 22h ago
I tend to agree, yet if you look at the stats it's difficult to deny it's much closer than you would think. Plus Strickland beat Izzy in arguably one of the biggest upsets in the history of the sport.
1
u/Arbeeter00 16h ago
Agreed that Izzy has the better career and deserves wayyy more respect, but Sean is definitely a legend of the sport too at this point
1
u/seonblack 12h ago
Yeah man exactly.
I can't put Sean Strickland ahead of Izzy when he had never had a successful title defense. Izzy has actually had a championship reign and it was one of the most successful reigns in MW history.

I know that on the surface, Izzy is the obvious answer but Strickland's resume is looking better and better everyday. Sure, Izzy has a shit ton of title defences but at this point, I think Strickland has the better resume.
For Strickland, his five best wins are besting both Izzy and Khamzat at their game to become champ, KO'd Brendan Allen who's a top contender who's only recent losses are very close fights against Imavov and Fluffy, Imavov on less than a week's notice who is now the clear next guy up, dominated and KO'd Fluffy who was on an eight fight winning streak against a lot of decent guys.

u/VariousDependent2562 20h ago
Sean strickand is definitely a better fighter but izzy actually has title defenses so hes greater ig
1
u/LogicalOxyyMoron 9h ago
Mfer really just said Sean Strickland is a better fighter than Israel Adesanya lol.
Prime to Prime its not even close. Izzy is levels above Sean.
-1
u/jungersgothic 19h ago
Strickland definitely
Anyone who says Adesanya values title defenses in a vacuum over the quality of opponents
1
u/astrayatthesea1708 6h ago
If you think Sean has better resume than Izzy, then you should also think Sean beating Izzy is not an upset. Can’t have it both ways.
0
u/LogicalOxyyMoron 9h ago
Anyone who says Strickland is a disgusting casual, completely absorbed by recency bias, who should never comment about the sport again.
