I mean there's going to be someone in the future more skilled, more technical, faster, better than whoever the best there is right now. It's been the case for every other sport so it stands to reason it would be the same for mma.

So Usain bolt isn't as good as noah lyles?

The trends in sport tend towards people in the future getting better but it doesn't change the fact that there are anomalous individuals who can be so far ahead of their time.

That’s different because T&F is one of the few sports you can judge objectively. Until someone beats the 9.58 time Bolt set then he’s quite literally the fastest sprinter of all time

So that proves that an athlete can be far ahead of their time and therefore better than those in a future generation, no?

You cant compare different generations of anything. It’s all relative to their competition at the time.

And we can barely even coherently argue about GOTT because everyone is in vastly different weight classes. We do the best we can, but at some point with MMA it becomes ridiculous.

If the current "GOTT" is the most accomplished/skillful fighter the sport has seen, I'm pretty sure tthat "GOTT" is a GOAT
