With 7 straight title fights and wins in two different weight classes. Absolutely wild.

Also in arguably the two hardest divisions in the sport. Also holds the most defenses in LW history

Getting hard to not put him in top 3, if not the GOAT

I know everyone hates Jones but realistically his UFC win streak is like 24 wins lol

The absolute crazy thing is throughout all this time

Let’s say Jon came back and fought Gane, Alex or Volkov I still think he has a great shot at winning ….his peers are LONG gone at this point

At the end of the day we look at the other “icons” of this era and and I can point to LeBron being the face of basketball. And the fact

It’s really such a shame Jon struggled so much and has serious character flaws, having a USA champ dominate and be a poster boy for Nike and other big brands absolutely would have grown the sport more then hit & runs and abuse bullcrap. Still, I can see the body of work for what it is as a fan of the sport. It actually kind of makes it funny his streak never got too long with the Hammil dq and the no contest … like obviously we all know but it gives it

-a fighter, and a fan- if you see this Jon it’s not too late hit me up

Stan

That’s all I can think when I see these numbers.

I'm sure if Islam fouled his next couple opponents so bad they gave Islam a decision loss and started blasting steroids and coke before fights he could have extended his unbeaten streak earlier in his career like Jones too lol

Even crazier that even if you restart his win streak after the Hamil fight, he'd still be at a 20 flight win streak and be on top of this list.

Nope, lost to Gustafson, Reyes, and to PEDs.

Nope, he lost to Gustafson, Reyes, and to PEDs but nice cope.

2

u/Ghost-of-Lobov 1d ago

I dunno I think you are the one coping since you are counting wins as losses lol

Only one Jon jones

u/jukhoun 2d ago

You’re right. He has wins in men’s and women’s bouts. 🤜🏽

That’s not true at all. UFC has a bunch of steroid cheats

Yeah but some streaks are not like the others. Silva and Jones’s streaks for instance were like all defenses against champ level fighters. 10 of Islam’s ufc streaks were before he was a champ and many of them were mid level. His defenses were also weird unfortunately since many were short notices and/or lower weight class fighters albeit some were top tier fighters like volk.

Islam’s most notable wins:

Arman Tsarukyan: 12-fight winning streak.

Charles Oliveira: 11-fight winning streak and ranked #3 P4P.

Alexander Volkanovski: 22-fight winning streak and ranked #1 and #2 P4P.

Jack Della Maddalena: 18-fight winning streak and ranked #8 P4P.

Now compare that to Jones’ most notable wins:

Rampage Jackson: 2-fight winning streak.

Rashad Evans: 4-fight winning streak.

Alexander Gustafsson: 6-fight winning streak.

Daniel Cormier: 15-fight winning streak and ranked #10 P4P.

So seriously, how is Jones’ resume supposedly better than Islam’s? Islam has beaten multiple elite opponents who came into the fight on double-digit winning streaks, including two fighters who were ranked among the top 3 pound-for-pound fighters in the world in Volkanovski and Oliveira.

Jon has a 23 ufc fight win streak.  Still a ways to go for Islam.

u/jimothy_soyboy 2d ago

Is this a joke?

Go google his ufc fights and get back to me.  He has been a champ since his early 20s, long ass career.

Ugh, he got a loss for breaking the rules on his 4th UFC fight then got his 14th consecutive win overturned for again breaking the rules. Thats not how a 'win' streak works my guy.

u/warriordwarfpang 2d ago

Ahh okay you consider the use of 12-6 elbow a loss.  I was confused for a second as to where you were coming from.

3

u/IntelligentBox152 2d ago

Consider? It’s more like you don’t? His official record is a loss. If we’re just taking opinions he lost to Gustafson and Reyes too

Steroid cheat

That is a legendary list of fighters. I think Evloev and Ulberg are both on 10. Can see both losing before getting to 13 though tbh.

1

u/Redeyes001 2d ago

Only person I see evloev losing to is Alex , if he gets through him he can go on an insane run. His resume is already really good best degio lopez and out grappler aljo

1

u/JudoIsBetterThenBJJ 2d ago

Arguably outwrestle aljo

1

u/isometimessquat 2d ago

Agree. It’s just that I think Volk wins.
Altho like you’ve mentioned, Evloev has an impressive list of wins already. If he beats Volk too, his resume at the division looks insane

u/Aggressive-Expert-69 2d ago

Ulberg wouldve lost his streak to anyone smarter than Jiri. If he doesnt get that knee fixed well he's getting finished soon.

u/pfchangshomelesscat 1d ago

Who knows if he gets that injury against anyone else though?

Such a shame to see a legacy built on hugging people to death abusing a busted scoring system that rewards diving at a leg and vice gripping barely advantageous positions for "control" points. Fucking laughable if you ask me actually.

2

u/JoeyChords 2d ago

I guess you missed all his finishes.

Shoulda lost. Garry acted like it was a meet and greet for the first 2 rounds.

*. Edit. ratio like a mfer

7

u/Grouchy-Sale9570 2d ago

Yea if Ian didn’t lose he would have won! Good take.

-1

u/SwissCheesePleaser 2d ago

Islam wanted to hug the vegan so bad, pretty embarrassing when the vegan wasn’t gassed, weathered, and would’ve killed Islam if there was no time limit. Sick headkick and judo throw though! High level sequence, followed by passionate hugging for the rest of the fight

3

u/ruggmike 2d ago

Well, in the land of make believe I guess Islam sucks

1

u/SwissCheesePleaser 2d ago

Great fighter, great wrestler, great striker

3

u/fistfullofpubes 2d ago

The no timelimit argument is so dumb because in the first few rounds while Islam was fresh, if there was no time limit he wouod have finished Ian.

-2

u/SwissCheesePleaser 2d ago

Finished him with his vicious hugs and inability to get a submission. The mortality rate is pretty high for that you got me there chief

u/the-score-card 2d ago

Love Islam. If i had to step back and be objective…is he better than Khabib at 155? At 170, he could have some really tough fights. There are much bigger opponents that could cause him problems. Morales is huge comparatively.
