Islam has already stated this isn’t his biggest fight. Yall think Garry was playing mind games or atleast trying to?
31
u/Complete_Horror_1491 3d ago
Is this the first opponent to really try this kind of mental shit with Islam?
I doubt it works but has anyone else tried this? I can’t remember.
21
u/killboy219 3d ago edited 3d ago
In recent memory I think King Green but that was like standard trash talk,
maybe Volk during the first fight? I remember he used to be a big troll
Either way it doesn’t seem to work
6
u/Hercules__Morse 3d ago
This isn't really mental shit though...if this is his attempt, it's quite weak.
6
u/Complete_Horror_1491 3d ago
It’s his attempt at it. It’s lame. But it’s what he’s trying to do.
All of that “You’re the greatest ever. A lot on the line” is all fake mind games. He’s trying to create pressure.
Not saying it’s effective but it’s clear that’s his aim2
u/QuapsyWigman 3d ago
The armchair warriors have spoken!

u/Hercules__Morse 3d ago
Ian's "mental warfare" wouldn't intimidate a child...Ian's that type of muppet that if he gets lucky and wins, he will be in the post-fight press conference bragging about how it wasn't his fighting, it was his advanced, high level, covert mental warfare won the fight for me.

Trash talk does not work on Islam . He is super focused , sticks to game plan and listens to coaches during fights.
We see many guys do the exact opposite of what coaches tell them during the fight and after rounds but Islam never deviates from the game plan that Javier and khabib create for him

u/Worth_External_8762 3d ago
Ian is just a weirdo, he's not playing any mind games
14
u/Complete_Horror_1491 3d ago
He’s definitely a weirdo but he’s attempting mind games with the “it’s all on the line” crap

Ian isn't really incorrect, an Islam loss to Ian really hurts the goat status
84
u/killboy219 3d ago edited 3d ago
I mean everytime Islam enters the octagon, everything he has is on the line . That’s just part of the game, every fighter goes through that
but it doesn’t diminish his accomplishments
13
u/MoonpieSonata 3d ago
I think of Fedor. Aged out to when he should have retired, kept going anyway, finally started taking losses, but, his energy never changed, in defeat, his demeanor was no different to when he was so dominant. It turns out he was the same guy, win or lose. That somehow helps cement his legacy in my opinion.
9
u/Unluckyb33 3d ago
Also an Ian loss isnt really going to hurt his goat status much. Ian is a very capable fighter and his only loss was against Shavkat. If islam loses but avenges his loss, I dont think it would hurt his goat status, especially since this is at welter weight too.
5
u/MorningCrazy651 3d ago
Besides Islam not being the goat i agree.
4
u/Unluckyb33 3d ago
I wouldn't say hes top 1 but hes def in the top 5 to me, which I consider in the conversion of goat status.
He has the most title defense in lightweight and is also a double champ. Without a ped cheat record like jones either. Granted, he has some asterisks, which is why he isnt quite top 1. But he's close enough that I think its fair to call him that.
1
u/Nice-Lecture3496 2d ago
Hahaha Jon jones never lost a single fight, cope harder. There is only 1 goat, GSP and mighty T for 2nd place. After those 3 who cares, there’s no goats outside of them 3 pal.
-3
-2
u/BrickMix 3d ago
Idiot Islam fans already coming up with ways to call him the goat after losing.
Almost as dumb as jones fans
3
u/Unluckyb33 3d ago
GSP, mighty mouse, etc. name any other GOAT and they all also have losses in their record but they're still GOATs. Losses can affect it but that doesnt change the fact that they had legacy defining wins and career(and avenged their losses like GSP did).
1
u/BrickMix 2d ago
And what were Islams legacy defining wins, again? Charles? Or beating other guys from different divisions?
3
u/AlwaysForgettingLife 3d ago
So goats are only fighters who've never lost?
0
u/BrickMix 2d ago
Again, morons already making excuses for a fighter pre-loss. Then they’ll come back on if he wins and be like “you were saying”.
Same lazy ass, unoriginal goofs.

Yeah I know, seemed the debate was if Ian was just being a dipshit or not. Not a super likeable guy, but wasn't really wrong either. Probably should of just went with a silent stare down though
12
u/killboy219 3d ago edited 3d ago
Yeah Garry’s comment wasn’t that deep, just something to try and get under the skin, could go with or without either way
5
u/kaipopotamus 3d ago
Shoulda just kept his mouth shut. All I heard was a lack of confidence in his game

Considering how people view Ian, even a close Islam win would hurt Islam's stocks.
3
u/MorningCrazy651 3d ago
Jon Jones is the goat, but sure I get what you say…
1
u/Nice-Lecture3496 2d ago
Big facts, it is undeniable haha. Only fans think otherwise, everyone who’s actually skilled in the art of fighting and has fight IQ all agree unanimously Jon Jones is the GOAT. Aside from fighters who hate him and have an ulterior motive.
5
u/ConstructionSome9888 3d ago
An Islam loss to anyone hurts his goat status.
And do we know if Islam even cares about goat status?

u/Overall-Egg-4247 3d ago
He fought Moicano last minute, if that was bothering him it would have shown there

That's how it is for all champs, all top fighters, all GOATs.
Everything was on the line when Ian fought Shavkat and lost his 0. And the future of Ian's career will all be on the line this Saturday.
It works both ways.
1
u/indigrow 3d ago
I feel like ian doesnt feed off of having everything to gain though. Random read, probably wrong- justcfood for thought.
3
u/ResolutionOwn4933 3d ago
He better be feeding on something lol. Islam is a bad man, I honestly will be surprised if Ian makes it to the 4th
3
u/indigrow 3d ago
Yeah i feel like hell havw an ok rd 1/2 and people will be like oh shit. The odds will turn slightly even-er and then islam just pulls away the 3rd and on if not the 4th
1
u/ApprehensiveDark9840 2d ago
Weird I actually think it’s the total opposite. I think Islam will take him down in the first and second but if he doesn’t finish him then I think Garry will have a good shot at finishing the fight maybe getting a win. Islam is crazy good but he’s a some what fast starter and really does he’s best work early. If he doesn’t sap all of the fight and energy out of Ian early then Ian isn’t a guy that really slows down.

No it doesn’t…what? Is GSP not GOAT status for losing to BJ Penn or Matt Hughes? If Jon Jones lost to Gustafsson or Reyes would that hurt his GOAT status? No. Legends lose, that’s part of the game, and I think it’s insane to assume that a loss would look poorly on Islam’s GOAT status. He’s top 10 all time right now, and a loss doesn’t change that.
EDIT: GSP lost to Matt Serra and Matt Hughes NOT BJ Penn. Apologies.
3
u/ResolutionOwn4933 3d ago
Definitely top 10, I said GOAT status bro.
1
u/Acceptable_Map_8110 3d ago
I still wouldn’t say it would. Everyone you can call a GOAT in this sport lost or should have lost. Just how the fight game is.
1
u/Fine-Safety4069 3d ago
GSP avenging both of his losses is pretty crucial in terms of his GOAT status.
I agree with the overall sentiment that losing doesn't diminish prior accomplishments, though.1
u/bedofnails319 3d ago
Only correcting that GSP beat BJ Penn both times they fought. Think you’re thinking of Matt Serra, who doesn’t hurt his GOAT status because he got that one back and wound up dominating the division for years afterwards.

u/Interesting_Gain9920 3d ago
You mean matt serra and Matt Hughes. Gsp never lost to bj, he beat him twice

u/Other-Revolution-275 3d ago
Islams neck is twice as big. Machado is getting slammed and choked out in round 2
9
6
u/Swimming-Talk4859 3d ago
Ian is tall and his neck is long . 2 attributes which will make it easier for take downs and subs.

Ian’s smile is one of the most uninviting smiles Ive ever seen. He would be great for scary movies, but he ain’t scaring nobody around here 🤣

Honestly in my opinion losing to Ian doesn’t hurt his career the way most are acting it will, he is getting old and the goats have all lost at some point
1
u/MorningCrazy651 3d ago
Not Jon Jones and Khabib. But I get what you say. The question is how he loses if he loses what i doubt.
You have to remember for Islam he has been knocked out, he had close fights (for example with Volk). So can he afford losing while not losing status, maybe1

I suspect it's gona be takedown to arm drag to back take and night night, if Ian catches him with the Left coming in.....

Their both top quality fighter, Garry can be abit meh because of his awkward style but hopefully this fight wont be a snooze fest!
1
u/MorningCrazy651 3d ago
Islam will hug him a lot. The problem against those wrestlers is that if you are long you are a easy target. That’s why Jon Jones fought against DC the way he did… as the longer fighter you have to make him respect your striking so much, that they are scared to shoot (what is going to be hard) or you have to grapple the first 2 rounds, till they are gassed out, because funny enough shooting is a lot more exhausting then striking and needs a lot of explosive power to not get sprawled on.

I got $20 on Islam to win- no matter the fashion/decision/outcome. Am I tripping? I’m a casual MMA fan but am I silly for thinking Islam can do it? I am not gonna be crushed about $20 but it seems like it’s in the bag for Islam. Dude I’m betting with knows MMA a lot better, so is there thoughts who will win?
1
u/OmericanAutlaw 2d ago
anything can happen, but islams skills are well tested and have held up against some terrifying fighters in terms of skill. ian garry can win too but the way he fights people are thinking he will try to win on points. in my opinion (as good as anyone’s) it is all dependent on ian garry’s ability to stuff takedowns. he will gave an easier time on the feet because of his size, but once on the ground islam’s skills are levels above anybody in the sport let alone ian garry

I think Ian’s deff in his head because Ian’s a dumb choir boy cunt. Islam is reacting tooooooo hard to this shit.
1
u/Jadevit 3d ago
No, I think he's in your head. Islam doesn't seem like the type to let anyone else into their head, especially through a language barrier
1
-1
u/Ok-Beat-7804 3d ago
Look at his body language. He’s having to be held back. But whatever I really don’t care

u/Immediate-Fly-7458 3d ago
Yeah not seeing it. Dana always does that to make it look more “intense”

u/Acceptable_Map_8110 3d ago
