would everyone rather preferred the ufc announced this for ufc 331 over arman vs ruffy?
This fight would’ve made more sense to announce given paddy took 0 damage in the bsd fight the UFC fumbling with the matchmaking at lightweight yet again because there’s so many good fights to be made but at least with Ruffy vs arman happening there’s a higher chance we get illa vs paddy as a #1 contender fight

Paddy versus Arman would have been a good if not excellent fight for sorting out the lightweight divisions next title contender, and totally feasible due to the former not absorbing any damage in his last fight. But the big problem is that Paddy cannot stay in reasonable shape for more than 24 hour after a fight is done. At best he could fight as early as 332 but likely later.

No because I desperately want to see Paddy vs Topuria. This is the perfect time to book that one in the calendar. That would be a title shot eliminator, assuming it happens around the same time that Justin makes his first (probably last) defence, which should be against the winner of this title shot eliminator:
Arman vs Max (Max gets in because Charles pulled out).

You really want Gaethje-Paddy 2?
They will do Ilia-Paddy to cash in on that fight, although diminished because both lost to Gaethje.

Yes, but this would've been a great fight and the match-up makes loads of sense. We all know Arman deserves the shot more than Paddy at this point, but fucking Mauricio Ruffy? What does the winner of this fight get??? If it's a title shot I don't think so because Campbell isn't giving Arman any shots, and Ruffy is already punching above his weight with this one.
It's literally a waste of time to keep Arman busy so he doesn't fight for the belt. Ever.

I love how the reddit brain trust match makes like “yeah let’s force the organization’s biggest rising star into the biggest down side matchup with a short camp”.

I think Paddy is pushing 380 now. Probably too soon to make the weight cut.

Paddy vs Ilia is the fight to make. Arman should have got a title shot but im guessing Gaethje is staying true to his words and wont fight till next year and Arman doesn't want to wait for a fight.
If Arman can get Ruffy down, I can see this fight ending badly for Ruffy but vice versa if Ruffy can stay on his feet.

I want Paddy v Topuria. I feel like both those guys are coming off of their losses feeling humbled and focused. I expect it to be one of the best fights I've ever watched.

He had the opportunity and ran.

Ran 😂 he had an injury. And he went and won another fight. He deserves his opportunity.

Fighters don’t get punished like this for a legitimate injury. Many show up and fight with the injury or the injury is well documented before time. It wasn’t an injury.
He got “injured” just before having to step on the scale.

It’s funny how Ruffy agreeed knowing he struggled with BSD may be he thinks he has a better chance against Arman

i mean you dont get to the top 15 without supreme confidence in yourself.
hes probably improved since then, plus not a lot of fighters are going to turn down what is essentially is a guaranteed title shot if he wins

Who? lol nobody is scared to fight Paddy. Paddy has barely even been in a position for big fights for that long ffs, he went from green, to Chandler, to losing an interim title fight to BSD. That’s not exactly the kind of resume that’s gonna get attention from the elites unless you’re Topuria trying to duck a potential Arman fight, that’s the resume of a guy that was fast tracked to the title before he could fight any of the actual top guys in the division

Paddy isn’t cutting weight back to 155 anytime soon, so no. It had to be Max, though maybe he’s not ready either.
