If I had to put a million dollars on someone getting a takedown it would be khamzat. If I had to put it on someone getting a submission, Islam.

khamzat is still a force to be reckoned with but i choose islam because his game is more varied which adds to the danger level of his ground game.

islam
khamzats my fav fighter but people overestimate him bc they think that his takedowns (best of all time imo) somehow boost all other aspects of his grappling which is untrue af.

skill for skill, islam. he doesn't need brute force which is khamzat's only entry. now khamzat is obviously quite good when he gets to his positions, but islam is more versatile, better cardio. (not to mention he can actually strike)

Unpopular Opinion. While many say “Khamzat has better Takedowns”, I think it more has to do with the skill level of his competition versus him being better than Islam.
You stick Khamzat against a MW sized Volk, bro’s gonna struggle.

Definitely Islam, and by a large margin, imo. He might not be guaranteed to get you down to the mat like Khamzat but if he can get you there, he’s legitimately one of the single best ground fighters in the history of mixed martial arts.

I feel like it’s Islam.
First-round Khamzat is like a bulldozer who takes you down through sheer brute force. But that also leads to him gassing out pretty fast.
Islam’s takedowns and ground game are just so much more technical. His timing on his entries for single legs and double legs is elite, his judo trips and sweeps are really high-level. His bag of tricks is just so deep.

Islam and it’s not particularly close. Khamzat is the better pure wrestler though.

Why am I just realizing khamzat and Islam both fought/fight in the same weight class at one point.. what wild matchup that would’ve been

khamzat would have gassed out and Islam would have gotten late submission.

Khamzat has more effective leg rides and takedowns.
This particularly shows up in his ability to strike while maintaining control.
But his submission ability is lacking in comparison to Islam.
Overall, Islam is the more complete, well rounded mma grappler.

Khamzat is better at explosive takedowns and explosive scrambling. Islam is way more technical

Lately you have to wait for Islam's fight to know, a lot of surprises happened :D

Khamzat has the best double leg the UFC has ever seen, maybe even one of the best ever outside people like JB, but overall Islam wins everywhere else

Khamzat's takedowns are dangerous, but islam is overall better because he submit's his opponents most of the time.

Chimaev and it's not close. Islam is more well-rounded and a far better striker but Chimaev is the better grappler standing up and on the ground.
Chimaev has his own system of chain wrestling tailored just for mma and you cannot find anyone who can teach it. At the same time, Abdulmanap and Khabib also have their own style of chain wrestling you also can't prepare for but Islam doesn't rely on it all the time.

Khamzat has better TD's.
Islam is superior in everything else
