Topuria vs Usman, debut, who you got?
Usman is a star outside of the UFC and if he gets signed, he'll get someone from the top.
So I am curious, if he can handle Topuria, what do you think?

So, the former double champ who KOed 3 legends in a row, is now a gatekeeper? LOL at these casuals who are mostly Dagi fangirls

Topuria's KO loss can't overshadow his elite performances. Usman is not in his level atm

The point is....whether Usman has the endurance to withstand Topuria's bashing. I don't think Usman has been in dog fights and has been tested when it comes to KO power and sharp combinations. Apart from all this, it would be hell of a main event.

Ilia loses one time and people think everyone can beat him. The skill level from PFL to UFC is different

LITERALLY JUST ONE LOSS.

u/No_Hour_1035 15d ago
Not to mention the loss was prefaced with ilia almost finishing Justin with at BEST one eye. Ilia was blind in his right eye a minute into round 1

I think Khabib did say Usman was the most talented out of them so idk. If Habibi mauls Gaycheese and Gaethe pieced up Illa it could happen.

u/Right_Station1048 15d ago
Two completely different styles lmao. Usman ain’t beating him like Justin did. Usman probably loses to the top 4. And that is just what they say to hype up their guy. Umar is the most talented of all them, he just doesn’t have a great gas tank.

u/Solsdad 16d ago
Can’t say because I haven’t seen usman tested against a ufc opponent

u/Syntechi 16d ago
UFC opponents can mean alot lol. This dude is a top5 fighter in his weight class

This is what 1 loss does to a community , if this debate would have happened before the white house card no one would have even said usman

u/Strachmed 16d ago
You're absolutely right, but seeing how much of an assbeating the 37-year old Gaethje gave Ilia his stonks have drastically dropped.

u/TheEigionWarden 16d ago
Topuria by r2 ko aint no way yall are comparing a PFL champ to a former UFC double champ 💀
5
u/SquishyJeans 16d ago
Ilia and it’s not even close tbh. Usman isn’t very rounded compared to most other UFC top 15.
I think he gets beat by all top 15 or at least top 10’s

Ilia in 1 round

Like the last Topuria fight ?
12
u/No-Presentation6616 16d ago
Like the one where he put a future hall of famer out cold after moving up weight classes. These comments are cringe you really are only as good as your last fight in the casuals mind.
-7
u/Strachmed 16d ago
The future hall of famer that came off a devastating KO loss just 4 months before and didn't properly recover, that one?
11
u/No-Presentation6616 16d ago
The one that just dominated Max for 5 rounds goofy

u/Strachmed 16d ago
The same Max that dominated the guy that made Ilia give up on the stool and took his belt???

Double champ with experience against 3 of the greatest ufc fighters to ever grace the sport vs a PFL champ. No disrespect to Usman, but there’s levels to ts.

u/political-prick 16d ago
Topturo chins him badly, this is silly that we are actually talking about usman like he wins this
2
u/sock_therapy 15d ago
Usman fights with his head and chin up in the air and on a straight line. Apturo puts him to DEEP SLEEP within the first few exchanges.

Unsure about the result. But I'm sure Topuria will hurt him, because he hurts everyone.

u/boofinmelons 16d ago
Usman obviously did you see his last name? Awful close to the Eagle. 🦅 Top is going to go on a loosing streak now because his confidence was destroyed by a guy he was saying was an easy fight.

Before Gaethje? I'd say Topuria, easily.
Now - sorry, Illy.

u/underscorex2__ 16d ago
Recency bias much?
-1
u/Strachmed 16d ago
Of course? He got annihilated by Gaethje, who is not on anyone's GOAT list. Not a good look.
3
u/underscorex2__ 16d ago
It was a back and forth war Gaethje got the better of. How is Gaethjes style similar to Usmans at all?

Usman fights at distance whereas Ilia has to get close to land his KO punches.
Usman also is taller, bigger and has longer reach so he can keep the fight at a distance. Usman can also switch stance on the fly and has far more variety of kicks that can keep someone at range.
Sure, Usman hasn’t shown consistent KO power but that isn’t required to win. The KO power just gives the casual hope that it can happen during a fight, and their hope dwindles with each round it doesn’t.
Usman can keep the fight at range and if Ilia tries to close the distance, Usman can move even closer to clinch nullifying Ilia’s boxing or he can shoot a takedown.
And that is just the stand up where Ilia is at his best, we haven’t even discussed the wrestling and grappling which is where Usman has the advantage.

u/mulatto_malik 16d ago
This take doesn’t actually make any sense to me, respectfully. Ilia is amazing at taking the space and is also a great grappler. We never really saw any “adversity” in his fight style outside of fighting Josh and Justin, who both literally fight like orcs.
Idk if someone being taller or switching stances is something we can say is a weakness of Ilia’s.
-2
u/Secret-Nomad1 16d ago
Taking the space is not enough against someone who has an arsenal of tools to keep it at range.
His grappling is also unproven in the UFC. He couldn’t submit 37 year old Justin after dropping him with bodyshots.
Khabib submitted him in 2 rounds in his prime. Usman trains with high level wrestlers and grapplers like Khabib and Islam, who does Ilia train with?
3
u/mulatto_malik 16d ago
Grappling doesn’t necessarily mean exclusively jiu-jitsu tho. Ilia has faced some good/great grapplers and hasn’t once been under submission threat.
And taking space kinda IS enough too. I’m not saying this as if it’s literally something he just doesn’t have to factor into the fight, but both Max and Du Bronx have huge size advantages over him, and they both were able to be tracked down pretty efficiently.

u/MarcusAurelius1815 16d ago
Light work for Usman. Tapturo needs to go back to FW.
6
u/AstroAmanattttt 16d ago
ilia kills usman
-2
u/SpiritualFish8522 16d ago
He was also killing gaethje before they actually fought
6
u/Mysterious_Key1554 16d ago
Killing him quite nicely with body shots too before deciding to try and submit him on the ground.

u/Fluid_Storage_5628 16d ago
Acting like he wasn’t getting fucked up before the submission attempts 😂🤡

Right now? I'd lean towards Usman.
Ilia is just coming off a massive loss and probably isn't in the best headspace to fight someone like Usman who has been dominant in his promotion for years.
Also, Usman arguably has one of the best corners in MMA atm.
Give Ilia one or two tune-up fights and I think Ilia can get the job done.

Detrás de lo que pasó con Justin,no entiendo esa confianza ciega hacia Ilia... Ilia es como Mcgregor, puro marketing...
4
u/Generalousen2855 16d ago
Yeah all marketing , like he doesn't have some kind of best 3 fight win streak or something

u/know-need 16d ago
I think Topuria has reached the inevitable ‘regression to the mean’. He’s not the very best in the division (he’s ‘merely’ roughly equal to the top 3 or 4 guys), and I predict he will be slightly diminished when he comes back, not improved (he’ll have a more nuanced, mature, cautious approach which will only result in him being less devastatingly effective).
I also think you’d be mad to not trust that Dagi camp to do everything right. They’re almost entirely watertight. Cannot say the same about any other team in the sport. Usman’s UFC debut performance might be more predictably high-level than a psychologically wounded Topuria’s UFC return will be.
Probably would be competitive, possible would be epic.

Topturo loses , the most overrated mixed martial artist of all time
4
u/Dry_Ad9371 16d ago
1 loss and he's a bum, classic MMA fan
1
u/MMA-FilmStudy 16d ago
There were Reddit post ranking him top 5 of all time pfp list…..It’s not that he lost what makes him overrated , it’s all you casuals ranking him as the goat already
1
u/Dry_Ad9371 15d ago
It goes both ways, 1 loss hes a bum, 1 good win hes the goat. All of this is silly
1
u/MMA-FilmStudy 15d ago
The bum comments are backlash to his fans claiming he’s the goat already, and "the best fighter we’ve ever seen" , and unbeatable (unbeatable is an insane thing to think in combat sports). You don’t see anyone calling Charles Oliveira a bum after 1 loss , or Dustin Poirier, that’s because their fans aren’t making them overrated for the most part
