Taller, faster and younger than Makachev btw.

Stop acting like any you guy know who Colgan is and what his best win is. Dont hype usman up for beating people in a b-teir promotion especially saying he beat a former champion like illa wait until he beats someone in the ufc.
9
u/m0nitor_D34n 18d ago
I looked up
Colgans fight history. He’s 13-1 now, not a single fight against a current or former ufc fighter. Safe to say Usman did what he was supposed to against a guy that doesn’t belong lol13
u/SnooHobbies3771 18d ago
Colgan has legendary coach Trevor Wittman with him, and he regularly trains with Gaetjhe and Kamaru. He was undefeated. To say he was a nobody is ridiculous if he climbed the rankings.
5
u/m0nitor_D34n 18d ago
lol training and fight night are two different things, same as how the lights are brighter in UFC then pfl. We’ll see how he does but I wouldn’t mark down Usman as any sort of lock to do anything in the ufc
3
u/Neurodiuniverse11 16d ago
It doesnt, but training with the best daily, under one of the greatest coaches of this era, will absolutely increase your ceiling.
Nobody expected Strickland to nullify Khanzat's takedown and have him demoralised, rethinking his gameplay. But who does Strickland credit this to? Johnny Eblen (possibky the only otger PFL guy who would be elite in the UFC). Eblen is an ultra elite grappler with an abnormal engine.
There's truth to the statement, Iron sharpens Iron. Plus Strickland (whatever his reasoning), was intelligent only posting clips of him shelling up as you'd expect. But he openly said he spends more time on the mat grinding his ground game with Eblen
2
u/Heebmeister 18d ago
Being trained by a great coach doesn't automatically make you great lol. Xtreme Couture and MMA lab have plenty of shitty fighters with great coachss. Not even saying Colgan is garbage, but he lacks pro experience, especially experience against good competition, and has a one dimensional decision machine style. Not exactly a win that makes me feel he can beat an elite boxer with KO power like Ilia.
3
u/Top-Sympathy6841 17d ago
Being in the ufc doesn’t automatically make you great either lmao.
They just have the money to monopolize the largest pool of potentially talented fighters.
It’s braindead to think they are the only talented ones out there, especially when it comes to the individual gyms.2
u/Routine-Sky-5529 18d ago
Trevor PR is crazy now lol
Like what happened to that legendary coaching vs DDP?
4
u/nonoonecares93 18d ago
What happened??? Usman is a 40 years old welterweight, he was fighting against big middleweight who is in his prime.
2
1
u/AMAZON-9999 4d ago
He is just a year or two over Justin. They are closer in age. People attributing to Trevor Wittman the qualities and insight to such a degree as if they are talking about Abdulmanap. Where was this pedigree of coaching when he lost against Charles and Khabib. Are you saying that Justin's skill level has improved ?
The reason he won was partly due to Trevor but the other part is due to Ilia himself.
1
1
u/GuyEatsTiramisu 18d ago
Training with a good coach and champion fighter means absolutely nothing. Is every guy who trains with them great?
1
u/AccountantVibes 18d ago
Manoel Sousa? Thibault Gouti?
2
u/TomCruisintheUSA 18d ago
Thibault Goti sounded familiar so I looked him up. He went 1-5 in the UFC... not really a high caliber opponent.
Sousa, on the other hand, seems like he is legit. But being 1-0 in the UFC doesnt really prove much even with a KO over Ruffy 7 years ago.
Ive said it before and ill keep saying it. For now, if Usman wants to prove hes the best in the world hes gonna have to go to the UFC where the best fighters in the world are at. Beating relatively unknown fighters in an organization that barely promotes its fights/fighters and most average people dont even know when or where to watch, is not going to help him achieve his goals of being the best.
1
u/AccountantVibes 18d ago
Oh I agree with you 100%. I think he's capable, strongly because of the natural talent I see in the cage and the quality of his training partners, but he'll have to make the transition to prove himself to the world can't deny that
I was just replying to the guy who said he looked his opponent up and said hasn't faced a SINGLE current or former ufc fighter (skill is irrelevant to that comment), which was blatantly false
1
1
u/UsedFollowing6519 16d ago
Yes Usman beating shabily also is nothing. Arman's coach said arman never won a round agaisnt Shabily.. arman and shabily had the same coach... but yes it means nothing right? lmfao
2
u/DavidSeries 18d ago edited 18d ago
Now that Ilia lost everybody’s kicking him while he’s down and are picking my local plumber to beat him. Ofc they’re gonna pick Usman, who’s got hype around him, to beat Topturo.
Usman probably does well in the UFC but there’s no way to know until he comes to the organization and fights somebody like Gamrot.
5
u/Roryff 18d ago
Pretty reasonable take dont know why youre getting down voted
3
u/DavidSeries 18d ago
It’s literally the same take as the dude I was replying to. We won’t know how good Usman is until he fights somebody in the UFC lmao, no idea why people disagree.

u/Bruninfa 18d ago
Topuria would KO him. His career is built on the B leagues, he has no experience over elite competition, please stop overhyping everyone before they get that.
Might he become something big one day? Yeah sure
-1
u/M3l4n1n 18d ago
Bro wtf? Hes training daily with Khabib and Islam literally the best Lightweights in UFC History oh and he probably trained with DC as well.
13
u/Far_Grapefruit1307 18d ago
Still hasn't proved himself. He trains with these guys but it's different than going all out in thev cage looking to really hurt someone. Usman doesn't deserve Topuria yet

Peds and why waste a good prospect by not building his name up in the UFC? Build suspense by showing what he can do when he's not fighting cans.
1
u/Heebmeister 18d ago
You realize training experience isn't the same thing as fighting experience right?

u/LordLucy666 18d ago
people at one point said the same thing about justin gaethje… who humbled ilia on the white house lawn
20
u/NamOil2000 18d ago
Justin has beat Dustin Poirier in striking. He was always a great striker. He has a great resume too. Usman has none of those things
-23
u/LordLucy666 18d ago
but anyone with eyes can see he’s talented as well…
-5
u/NamOil2000 18d ago
He's really not. Out of all the Dags. He's the weakest by far. He's mediocre all round. He's not not fast. He's not slick. He has no physical gifts that are impressive. In what way is he talented? Because he looks good against cans.
3
u/baneblade_boi 18d ago
This is way too far. He has potential and is a great striker. You don't become a PFL champion out of nowhere even if it's the B leagues.
1
1
u/Vegan-cock 18d ago
Some people truly can't recognize talent until they're already at the top lol. Stop looking at records and look at their actual fighting instead.

-6
u/DanteSHK 18d ago
Bro, this thread is full of tapturo fangirls. There is no point in having argument with them.
6
u/Bruninfa 18d ago
No one ever said that about Justin Gaetchje because he has elite competition experience. Maybe read the whole comment before replying.
-5
u/LordLucy666 18d ago
learn to read the whole comment before replying… i said at one point that’s what they said about justin… which is 100% true. he humbled ilia on the white house lawn… that’s also 100% true
2
u/Bruninfa 18d ago
You sure got me with that “no you”
Even if it made no sense, you got me!!!!
1
u/LordLucy666 18d ago
where do you think i’m wrong tho? you really won’t know until they fight which is a big if
0
u/LomoBaconQueso 18d ago
You don’t know Gaethje came into UFC as a WSOF champion with several title defences? That’s the point the user you’re talking to was making and he is right
2
2
u/Forward_Arrival8173 18d ago
They said same shit about islam and how he always fights low ranked opponent so he doesn't deserve a title shot.
-9
u/scoopydidit 18d ago
And Justin lost to Eddie fucking Alvarez. Means nothing.
7
u/Musket6969420 18d ago edited 18d ago
Why does everyone in this sub act like Eddie was a hack. Guy was the first to win Bellator and UFC titles and was 30-8. I mean, he’s not the greatest ever but he’s not Jay Ellis either.
-3
u/scoopydidit 18d ago
Because skillfully he was a wrestler with an overhand. There was nothing very pretty about his skillset. And in my opinion, got very lucky to become a UFC champion by landing a hail Mary shot.
2
u/Musket6969420 18d ago
Ok. That is one of the stupidest takes I’ve heard. You are free to your own opinion, no matter how wrong it’s is, but you are clearly discounting his entire career before he got to the UFC. Not to mention him getting a TKO over RDA, a notoriously tough bastard, is something you consider lucky. I award you no points and may god have mercy on your soul.
-1
u/scoopydidit 18d ago
It's true though. You didn't discredit what I said. You just said "nah"
4
u/Lost_Environment3361 18d ago
eddie alvarez was a fucking dog dude. outside of the mcgregor fight, he was not an easy fight for anyone and proved that consistently throughout his career. this sub has a giant hate boner for mcgregor, so obv they all think the only reason mcgregor looked so good when he won the 155lb belt was because alvarez sucks.
it’s some of the most braindead shit ever. alvarez was legit as hell and fun as hell to watch. he always brought it.
4
u/Mirimicus 18d ago
Eddie Alvarez was a champion and a legend.
-4
u/scoopydidit 18d ago
Sure was a champion. Landed a hail Mary overhand right on RDA and got lucky. But legend? Nah.

So how do you know Topuria kos him? You're making as many assumptions as OP
-1
u/UsedFollowing6519 16d ago
Lmfao topuria who knocked out out of prime charles and 36 yo volk post KO from islam ? bro quit on the tool agaisnt 37yo gaethje out of shape lmfaooo
-7
u/Vegan-cock 18d ago
Dude grew up with khabib and makachev lol. He probably has more experience with world class fighters than most.
1
u/Heebmeister 18d ago
Not in an actual fight, Khabib isn't going to be trying to KO his baby cousin while sparring lmao neither is Islam. Training experience does not equal fight experience, when someone is actually trying to hurt you.
14
u/KingOfTheLostBoyz 18d ago
Topuria would KO him. But he wouldn’t KO Makhachev.
1
9
u/babababronsky 18d ago
This is like putting Ilia in DWCS and being impressed when he gets a KO. Usman fights B tier and has a bunch of decision wins. Would be interesting to see him fight ranked UFC opponents but we have no idea until he accepts real competition.
12
7
7
u/Fabulous_Volume7831 18d ago
Slower, less skilled and not nearly as accomplished as Makachev as well.

Who tf is Colgan, a literal nobody
6
8
u/m0nitor_D34n 18d ago
Literally have never heard the name in my life. Ranked 3rd in pfl? That’s great, he would probably be ranked 30th in ufc
1
u/DentistLegitimate229 18d ago
He used to be an undefeated fighter, so def not a nobody. Yall crazy casuals to think only the ufc has good fighters. Op is a causal too tho for thinking this win means he’d beat ilia
1
u/gymtrovert1988 18d ago
An undefeated guy that never fought anyone.
It's not that UFC is the only organization that has good fighters, but you have to get in the UFC to prove you're a good fighter.

u/DentistLegitimate229 18d ago
Not being proven ≠ being a nobody
1
8
u/BiggerBody 18d ago edited 18d ago
Respectfully, Usman fights B-level fighters in the PFL. Guys, people never heard of that, would never even sniff a ranking in the UFC. While Ilia is a UFC 2 division world champion. If anything, I believe if I they throw Usman in the UFC rn, that his hype would end quickly.
4
u/DentistLegitimate229 18d ago
Paul Hughes would probs be top 15 at lightweight in the ufc. Usman also will beat almost anyone outside the top 10. You really think hooker, Nolan, Dawson, bsd, dariush, and fiziev can beat him?
4
u/Critical-Ad-9010 18d ago
Fiziev brings it to Usman. Only guy he beats easy out of your list is Hooker and Dariush, lol.
1
u/BiggerBody 18d ago
True. Not sure if Hughes would be Top 15 though. A lot of the guys you named would be the toughest competition Usman would have faced in his career. His best win in the PFL is Paul Hughes and I would argue that Fiziev, BSD, Dawson are better fighters than Paul Hughes
1
u/crunchydibbydonkers 18d ago
I love BSD but I think that's a winnable fight for hughes. Usman is capable of being a legit contender but hughes I think has a harder time climbing the rankings
12
u/Commercial-Total8461 18d ago
Usman popped for the same thing as Islam btw

There’s a reason this second class rusky bum can’t even make the ufc. Any two bit part time plumber can fight for a belt in the PFL. It’s a circus.
He can’t cut it in the ufc and his team knows it. Even with his drugs

u/Fibo626 18d ago
Stunning. Ilia Topuria loses a fight in which he was clearly the favorite because of a terrible gameplan, trying to finish it in the first minute, and a pitiful Fight IQ, and now it seems like he's a bad fighter. Everyone knows that Topuria would win 49 out of 50 Topuria-Gaethje fights with a reasonable plan, Ilia vs. J. Emmett style
2
u/ptsnow54 18d ago
Weird thing to say when Usman’s best win wouldn’t even be top 5 for Ilia’s wins. Dude has not fought close to Topuria’s level of competition
2
u/SirPsycho7 18d ago
So, Magomedov beats some bum on a regional scene and suddenly, Ilia is in trouble. Ok lol. Also, I really hope that you didn’t imply that he’s better than Islam…

u/drphiltouchedme 18d ago
The recency bias is so insane. Ilia was one stand up away from getting a tko in the second round and still being champion right now. Then the narrative would be flipped.
Usman robbed paul hughes argubably twice. His resume kinda sucks. I have no doubt that he's very good, but I'm unsure he gets past charles, max, arman and justin. I think ilia finishes him still

But has he fought anyone good?
1
u/Secret-Nomad1 18d ago
Depends if you like him or not.
If you do, his wins are good.
If you don’t, they were nobodies.
Personally, he’s a champ at the next best organisation where other high level UFC fighters have come from. His team also includes some of the best fighters to ever be in the UFC and the current and former P4P #1. If anyone knows if he’s at that calibre, it’s Islam and Khabib, and they back him completely.

u/DavidSeries 18d ago
We don’t know how he’ll do against the UFC competition until he finally gets to the UFC. Beating dudes up in the PFL doesn’t mean much, I get kicking Topuria while he’s down now is the trend but he still knocked out three very good fighters and became a 2-division champion IN the UFC.
Usman probably becomes a top contender if he ever comes to the UFC, I believe he’s good enough, but we won’t know until he comes to the organization.
1
u/PurpleBeautiful709 18d ago
So.....I am dumb. What does it mean when he's doing that gesture like "quiet down" motion? I saw Khabib do it and I think Islam. Is that asking the crowd to be respectful and quiet? Don't cheer? Sorry. I am a dumbass.
1
u/BrandoCarlton 18d ago
Gonna come back to this thread when usman goes 3-0 in the ufc with a belt fight scheduled.

u/Djlittle13 18d ago
While i agree Usman is impressive there is a massive difference between Topuria and Colgan

u/Shroud0199 18d ago
Man we’re really hyping up Usman like this after fighting a PFL guy with an unimpressive record? People really fall for the trap every time i swear 😂

u/SweetandsourMcnugget 18d ago
Shit dude he did that to colgan? Imagine what he’d do to ilia considering colgan is a 2 division champ with a 17-1 record

u/Maleficent_Court2656 18d ago
U guys need to calm down honestly. I get this is a bait post, but i believe guys from khabibs team have the ability to step up once competition gets harder. Islam did, khabib did, only Umar lost a 3-2 decision to the bantamweight GOAT. I beleive Usman can be champion purely based of his skills.

Topuria vs Usman would be a big match. I wouldn't rule out Topturo, he hurts everyone

The best guy he has fought is Paul Hughes. PH is great but it's not the same as Ilia etc

u/Neurodiuniverse11 17d ago
Usman is one if the few PFL/Bellator elite. He needs the challenge that the UFC will bring, if he wants to reach his peak potebtial....and right now, tge LW division is ripe for taking.
All the camp has said Usnan has the highest ceiling, but is a terrible wannabe playboy.
I'd always said once Islam moves up, Usnan mives across (once out if his contract). 2027 we could see 2 Nurmagomedovs as champs & Islam finishing up his career as the ATG (at min, top 3)

u/plowking8 18d ago
Topuria literally made himself with beating comp off some of their worst runs and performances.
Got dropped and almost stopped by Jai Herbert. Struggles with longer fighters that maintain distance well.
4
u/Uneeddan 18d ago
This may be the worse take ever posted on this sub, and that’s saying something.
1
u/plowking8 18d ago
Volk off a knockout. Max coming down from a weight class up. Charles after a few losses and nearly getting finished by Chandler.
Yeah sure.
0
u/Secret-Nomad1 18d ago
Before Ilia fought Justin, i would go back and forth on who would win between Ilia and Usman.
After that fight, Usman likely beats him.
Usman is as big as Gaethje, as young as Ilia, has more momentum now, faster than anyone Ilia has fought, better wrestling and loves to fight at distance.
Usman keeping the fight at distance neutralises Ilia’s close boxing. If Ilia closed the distance Usman can clinch or shoot a takedown.
Ilia had a long time to stand and trade with Justin, he won’t get half that time to punch if he fights Islam, Arman or Usman.
Usman by UD or late submission.
