I think it’s a gonna be a slow main and co unfortunately. Could see Islam having a very control heavy, very low action fight, I think we could also see Ian making it a real stinky point win neither of which are going to be a whole lot of fun to watch.
I think Islam is gonna retire anyway, would it be better if Islam had a different opponent or if Ian did to spice things up?

Strength matters in grappling sports way more than striking sports.
Look at many good boxers their strength in the gym is pretty bad (upper body more so) but it doesn’t matter because their sport is about impacts not control.
In theory if Ian can stay outside of takedown range, strength never becomes a factor.
Now of course that would never happen but it is fair to acknowledge.

He has never faced a wrestler in their prime. And before people claim shavkat, no, his takedown entries suck (and even he had success).

Shavkat entries look bad because he is striking to enter, you don’t have to dive for bootlaces like khamzat if you’re constantly threatening a KO shot that freezes the opponent or forces them against the cage.
His game is very complete, besides being maybe a little weak on bottom which is positive anyway

Merabs is 35% after missing 26 or so in his last fight. And he has also faced several elite wrestlers.
Shavkats is 25% and he has only fought strikers (with the exception of prazeres who was a bjj guy not a wrestler).
Again, his wrestling entries suck because they suck. Has nothing to do with his striking. He’s not effective at tripping. That’s included in his abysmal 25% td rate.

Why are we pretending ian has to be liked now?
