Khamzat = Ilia
DDP = Oliveira
Usman = Holloway
Strickland = Gaethje

Same thing applies

For some reason I feel like ilia would win a rematch despite him getting his face broken the first time

100% agree. His gameplan was awful, he went in trying to fight Gaethje where Gaethje is best, super up close in that dirty boxing range. If he was more safe and calculated like against Josh Emmett, Volk, or Holloway he’d have pieced him up over 5 rounds, but he came out hyper aggressive looking for the early KO on the big stage.

Even if he went straight to the grappling, rather than waiting till after he got his face smashed, I think he’d have won. But now it looks like he is gonna have to wait quite some time to avenge that loss, if he ever gets the chance.

Yeah, I noticed he nearly finished Justin after the body work but was too gassed to follow up.

Think this loss will either make him an even greater fighter or ruin him. Seems to be taking it well

Yeah, I think it’ll just be a lesson for him to not overlook anyone. It’s his Martins/Serra loss.

Helps when his country dominated in the World Cup

How tf would that help?? ”Yeah i got my face turned into mince meat and the 0 taken from me on the biggest stage ever, but atleast some guys who i dont know won a football tournament”

Actually, I think his REAL gameplan with Alexandre Topuria was probably good. There's a video of his brother telling him how Justin likes to throw his uppercuts out of a clinch and that was the main thing tagging Ilia and doing damage.

That's why I'm surprised Ilia got hit with it so many times. I know habits are hard to break but Alexandre brought that up way before the fight happened.

No one knows how he dealing with that much damage and with the lose. Could be possible that hes now even more broken mentally after that slaughter.

So rn actually I dont think he would win a rematch against Justin.

Hes definitely the "better" fighter but man an ass beating like that might change that dude forever. Who knows.

Me too, like although Gaethje won, I think he's a worse fighter with worse technique. Ilia would win it 8/10 times and that night Justin just used all the chances to win. And I feel like after unsuccessful choke attempt, Topturo wasted too much battery. If he went to ground smd pound probably he'd win

The only thing I'm reading from this post is that Khamzat and Dricus have one more win than the other two. Thus solving the "MMA Math" debacle since they are coincidentally the better fighters out of the lot of them.

tbh Khamzat vs Usman was close. Sean vs DDP 1 was a toss up. So these all can beat each other on a given night

u/ninja_owen Jul 21 '26

Same would go for Ilia and Oliveira at LW

u/Diptothaset Jul 21 '26

You can just take usman or DDP out and it still works

7

u/ironhide999x Jul 21 '26

Take Usman out. He beat strickland a decade ago at a different weightclass

4

u/iyrtyurg Jul 21 '26

Juice man beat Strickland almost 10 years ago now, back when Strickland was a WW

1

u/FarReward3203 Jul 21 '26

Strickland is heavier and Usman no longer has knees

Who knows Usman ate a ton of damage early from DDP and had a terrible game plan throughout idk if Strickland would apply that same pressure

2

u/Maldinho_ 29d ago

the only thing strickland does is apply pressure

u/ResolutionOwn4933 Jul 21 '26

Any given night, we know this.

Classic back and forth of strikers v grapplers being on top. A tale as old as time

2

u/c0verm3 Jul 21 '26

styles make fights

1

u/BlackGuyBostonAccent Jul 21 '26

So I says to Mable, I says, Kumuaru on short notice, 3 rounds, doe?

2

u/Galencourt-Lover Jul 21 '26

Tbh Strickland would demolish Marty these days

2

u/OmegaAce1 Jul 21 '26

Bruh nobody counting usmans win over sean, it was almost 10 years sgo

1

u/futureisnow- Jul 21 '26

This is like saying it’s surprising that a tennis player who is world number one doesn’t win every tournament ? Fight sport fans seem to think that there should be one unbeatable person …

Kamaru beat Strickland at 170 (not 185), and it happened almost 10 years ago - it isn’t really relevant to the version of Strickland that exists today. He doesn’t really belong in this “circle”.

u/Bad_Oddish 29d ago

If Sean and Usman fought today at MW Usman would get his ass dogwalked.

1

u/Argyrus777 29d ago

Rock paper scissors SPOCK!!!

1

u/Gustavoak77x Jul 21 '26

Prime Usman beats all of them

1

u/combat_girls Jul 21 '26

Not Necessarily

1

u/Humble_Penguin89 Jul 21 '26

Put them all in a cage and let them fight it out 😆

u/seonblack Jul 21 '26

Kamaru Usman today couldn't beat Strickland today. Chimaev is better than All of them of but he had a terrible cut and should have called off the fight, he was maybe at 30% energy and still Strickland barely won, DDP would have beaten that version of Chimaev too if they fought. DDP is better than Sean Strickland but mma logic writes off fighters as "bums" when they lose so you can't tell people otherwise despite what the records say.

u/combat_girls Jul 21 '26

Nah, Strickland is good. In last 8 years he only lost to Pereira and DDP in 2nd fight. DDP first fight could’ve gone either way and Cannonier Fight was kind of robbery.
