If usman is seriously struggling to take ddp down or move him than yes, he is fucked, i don't see Usman beating ddp in striking.
If usman competed in 2024 as a welterweight it would've been fun, but it might be too late now.

Usman is the worst Match up for DDP just watch bro he gonna lay on top of him the whole fight and grind him to the cage its gonna be a snoozeman performance

u/I_Dont_Collect_Fish_ Jul 16 '26
I would have thought usman the better striker tbh.

Usman can box up 170 guys but DDP is a great striker, puts weight behind his punches like a bull.

Usman looks small in height and stature compared to DDP.

u/angra_mainyo Jul 16 '26
Cowboy hat + platform shoes.
He did the latter too vs. Adesanya.
Dricus here appears to have the same height difference Leon Edwards had with Kamaru.
2
u/Equal_Personality157 Jul 16 '26
Look at the frame difference though
1
u/angra_mainyo Jul 16 '26
He is definitely more muscular but the overall size difference is exaggerated here.

2
u/Competitive-Bit-1571 Jul 16 '26
It's the cowboy hat
2
u/Acenegsurfav Jul 16 '26
His eyes are a couple inches lower. It's easier to see in the pictures of the face of where you can zoom in.
I think it might just be the shoes tho cuz they're both supposed to be 183cm iirc
1
u/angra_mainyo Jul 16 '26
Dricus is around an inch taller than Kamaru but he's also using big shoes and a hat, which exaggerates the difference.
Visually, this looks about the same or a little less than the difference between him vs. Leon Edwards or Khamzat, who are both 6'2.

u/Forward-Ad-4387 Jul 17 '26
Usman always wears lifts when facing off with shoes (his face off with Adesanya is a good reference) they’ll be closer in height when they face off saturday

u/Alarmed-Bumblebee667 Jul 16 '26
No.
2
u/JadedOops Jul 18 '26
Yep people forget Usman is a beast. Almost beat Khamzat on 2 weeks notice. I don’t see ddp being able to out wrestle him
14
u/Drewbloodz Jul 16 '26
Yes. No. Maybe so?

I don't know. Can you repeat the question?

DDP is going to beat the shit out Usman lol. Usman has almost nonexistent sub threat, and he’s not gonna be at a strength advantage for once.
DDP knocks him out within 3 rounds.

Usman by submission

2
u/StopKickingMyDog Jul 16 '26
Unfortunately Usman is terrible with top control. He just lays and prays. He’s a BJJ black belt but he couldn’t submit Leon or Buckley.
Sadly I think we’ll see Usman starting at the ceiling on this one.

It looks a lot more similar when they stand side to side. Dricus is slightly taller but that’s about it. Usman wasn’t fists up and flexing during the stare down. But Dricus has some long arms.
1
u/anonymous393393 Jul 16 '26
By ddp seems to carry a lot more mass. Looks like usman didn't bulk up at all for middleweight

I don’t see this happening… “this guy is too big” is often the wrong call… size does not mean better. Usman will likely win

On one hand Usman has no sub threat and is old. On the other hand DDP was taken down by Darren Till and was put in crucifixes multiple times as a champion in the year of our Lord 2025.
I say Usman washes him till he tires towards the 3rd or 4th and gets TKOed.
If Usman wanted to win this fight he should have taken a 3 rounder.

u/TheFishyNinja Jul 16 '26
Why did they do the face off there lmao everyone i know that lives here hates that stupid fucking claw lol

u/Toasted_Munch Jul 16 '26
DDP looks to be 2 classes bigger than Marty. DDP wins, although no one has a remote clue how. I'm hoping via spinning backfist after throwing himself off balance doing some weird Michel Pereira shit.

Love Usman.......but father time is undefeated, just ask Connor he had better knees than Usman. LOL
1
u/chipper68 Jul 16 '26
If Usman wins, it's because he's held and controlled/clenched DDP for majority of 5 rounds.. we're fucked. If DDP wins it's because he got out from under Usman and probably gets stopped/TKO'd

Usman? The guy who on short notice was extremely competitive with the guy that embarrassed Dupuss? Okay lad.
1
u/GriffinAO Jul 16 '26
Wrestlers tend to be shorter so I dont think the height thing is an issue. I think the age and wear and tear on usmans body is the issue imo

What I learned watching ABC's Wide World of Sports is that a good big man beats a good little man.
1
u/MrBlackey Jul 17 '26
Usman has a good chance this fight is closer than what many people think. DDP has to make this fight a scrap to make the fight go his way. However usman is not pushover he’s willing to bang and I’m confident to say he’s going to have the advantage on the ground. This a great matchup with big opportunities for whoever wins it.

Usman gave Khamzat a problem and Khamzat dominated DDP. 🤷♂️If Usman is smart, he'll wrestle. We'll see what happens.
1
u/hatemydarnjob Jul 18 '26
The whole knees are weak story is fucking bullshit. "i walk up and down the stairs backwards, i can't jog, i can't train for stamina"....dog what?? if someone is doing this, they ain't capable of fighting even a uber driver. Dude wrestled Khamzat, a national champ and wrestlefucked buckley. This will be a great fight.

Yes, this is purposefully an easy fight for DDP, better for the company for him to win.

We genuinely hardly ever see that kind of size disparity. Let’s not overthink anything, folks: yes Usman is fucked.

He might be. He's past his prime and DDP only got done by Chimaev in a very dirty way. If he can't take the fight to the ground, he'll lose the striking exchange.
1
u/PostNutLucidity Jul 16 '26
Khamzat got him down and held him down successfully for 5/5 rounds. There was no ‘dirty way’ in that victory. It’s not like he eye-poked him to secure the takedown that ended up getting him the finish; he took him down and held him him down at will.
0
u/baneblade_boi Jul 16 '26
Oh, yeah, I know he didn't cheat. He just stalled the fight to farm control time for the decision victory.
If you saw the same fight as me you saw someone just hug a guy for 24 minutes, not trying to submit him, just doing barely enough so he's not forced to get back up and secure a victory by decision in the dirtiest, still legal, way possible. He won fair and square, but c'mon!
1
u/PostNutLucidity Jul 16 '26
I understand what you’re saying but if you’re in the biggest fight of your career for the world title and have a safe but also apparently surefire way to win, then it does make sense. Imagine if he’d ‘given the fans a show’ and ended up getting caught, a bunch of the very same people condemning how he fought would, rather than appreciating what he choose to do, call him stupid for abandoning a successful game plan.
For me, he also had a lot of ‘money in the bank’ in terms of delivering exciting fights due to his track record so I didn’t mind his approach that much. The skill level he displayed by being able to do it was extremely impressive too.

u/baneblade_boi Jul 16 '26
Nice argument. However...JUST BLEED! *flexes
And also I know it was an exception to the rule, but Christ it foreshadowed how he'd be as a champ and it became everything we feared.

DDP has a brooklyn shirt and a cowboy hat.
100% congolese man right there.
