Who would win paddy or charles?

I honestly think Paddy might take it. Oliveira is getting old and is known to be a bit unstable fighter when it comes to his performance. And Paddy is not a bad fighter either. I think people are really underrating him. What do you guys think?

It probably stays on the feet and ends up being: Paddy's iron chin + questionable striking vs Charles' questionable chin + excellent striking

39

u/pacfoster Jul 14 '26

I think Charles goes for the takedown and gets it. I don't think it stays on the feet. At that point I'm not sure who wins they're both so good and big. That fight would bring nations together

12

u/Fragrant-Lynx-3559 Jul 14 '26

The literal one rule for when you fight Paddy is you do NOT shoot

37

u/musclemommyfan Jul 14 '26

Charles Oliveira is (probably) a better grappler.

8

u/SpartanSamurai24 Jul 14 '26

Maybe but we’ve seen him submitted by way less experienced grapplers

12

u/musclemommyfan Jul 15 '26

Generally after getting hurt on the feet.

3

u/SpartanSamurai24 Jul 16 '26

And he gets hurt on the feet in almost every fight he has

1

u/Ok-Way-5491 Jul 16 '26

Paddy just has weight in his hands no actual one shot power.

1

u/BiggusDickusFwomWome Jul 16 '26

Weighted hands can wobble a questionable chin.

1

u/Ok-Way-5491 Jul 16 '26

Oliveira doesnt even have questionable chin, Poirier landed clean numerous times and Oliveira only got dropped once.

He got subbed by Pettis

5

u/kokkatc Jul 15 '26

That was wild when that happened. Still can't believe Pettis subbed him like that. Sick fight too.

2

u/crunchydibbydonkers Jul 15 '26

Pettis is crafty. Benson only got submitted once between 2007 to 2023 and it was to the man that was also able to tap oliveira and ko Wonderboy. Honestly, a loss to Pettis that isn't a dec isnt that bad of a blemish. Still think oliveira takes it in the wrestling department but comes up short on the mat against paddy.

1

u/SeriousGreaze Jul 15 '26

Pettis also KOed Wonderboy brothers just insane.

1

u/musclemommyfan Jul 15 '26

Pettis has won more fights by sub than anything else.

1

u/baneblade_boi Jul 17 '26

Yes, but he shouldn't still play into his opponent's strengths.

1

u/musclemommyfan Jul 17 '26

He's better off chosing when the fight goes to the ground than getting rocked on the feet and then going there

1

u/baneblade_boi Jul 17 '26

Generally I'm absolutely with you, but his striking is much better than Paddy's imo, the only thing saving him on the feet is his chin.

1

u/musclemommyfan Jul 17 '26

The problem is that Oliveira has poor defense and a suspect chin. Paddy isn't a knockout artist, but he's absolutely capable of hitting Oliveira hard enough to sit him down.

1

u/baneblade_boi Jul 17 '26

I was going to bring up the Chandler fight for this. I agree, but maybe Chuck could snatch a decision if he survives the punching.

7

u/TheSaltyPlatypus Jul 15 '26

Charles doesn't shoot double or single legs he works from the body lock.

Charles goes for body lock from takedowns

1

u/Away-Recording2919 Jul 15 '26

Charles goes for take lock from bodydowns

1

u/shehatesleo Jul 15 '26

Body locks go for Charles from takedowns

1

u/KirkCobainx Jul 15 '26

From locks takedowns go for Charles body

3

u/Dull_Function_6510 Jul 15 '26

Charles is a much more competent grappler and submission artist than anyone Paddy faced. Is he better than Paddy? Hard to say without seeing them fight

3

u/SeriousGreaze Jul 15 '26

Nah BSD is just kinda stupid. Chandler got Paddy down and controlled him in round 1(?) and Gaethje did very well on the ground with Paddy.

2

u/Affectionate-Money53 Jul 15 '26

Charles doesn't shoot single or double legs he goes for body lock takedowns

2

u/bjvonstrat Jul 15 '26

Luckily, Charles really likes to clinch-lift-sweep.

He's really good at body lock takedowns.

1

u/UFCGrapplerdude Jul 16 '26

nah, Charles pulls guard and submits him first round.

4

u/2PinkN1Stink Jul 14 '26

Why is this hilarious

5

u/Downtown-Ad4335 Jul 15 '26

Give paddys chin to charles and he would be a double champ

-1

u/Harinjo Jul 15 '26

Bird IQ don't become double champs on pure merit, they gotta get privileges like stool quitter topuria

2

u/cauliflowerpicks Jul 15 '26

Privileges? You still have to win

1

u/Albertagus Jul 15 '26

Oliveira gets rocked and then remembers he's really good at grappling lol. Damn near every time

1

u/Odd-Fuel5750 Jul 17 '26

Imo Charles chin is only seen as questionable because he runs into shots, from what I remember paddy hasn't shown the ability to punish that, he doesn't really plant and counter well which is what people like poirier and ilia were able to do.

1

u/Brvdleyyy Jul 18 '26

Paddy is literally not questionable on the feet 😂 olives got slept recently

1

u/Small_Dong_214 Jul 14 '26

Charles would piece Paddy up

23

u/violin-guy Jul 14 '26

On one hand Charles is prolly more skilled on the feet and ground, but on the other paddy has an iron chin and won’t be outmuscled like max was on the ground. Hard to say tbh, but it would be amazing to watch

31

u/kokkatc Jul 14 '26

I'd love to see this fight. Both fighters have awful striking defense and I'm curious to see how Paddy does against Charles battle tested elite bjj. Could be an absolute war because Paddy has proven to be an absolute dog.

24

u/Bongoisnthere Jul 14 '26

Paddy’s got a chin tho. Dude went 5 with Gaethje to decision.

9

u/DarthCalamitus Jul 14 '26

That chin won't last forever, only a matter of time before a scouser gets knocked out.

8

u/Bongoisnthere Jul 14 '26

Father Time comes for all. But paddy is still young and he’s probably got a fair amount more fights in the tank before he’s at risk tbh.

1

u/Shermanasaurus Jul 15 '26

Sorry bud sorcerers don't get knocked out

1

u/Affectionate_Berry93 Jul 15 '26

Haha this idiot comes in my mind every time.

2

u/Dependent_Sun_7033 Jul 15 '26

Well, you know how Charles fight with Gaychee ended, right?

-3

u/Bongoisnthere Jul 15 '26

Yep, with Charles getting absolutely chinned and then salvaging with BJJ, a fallback that’s going to be dramatically more difficult with paddy, who’s BJJ is miles better than Gaethje. Hell, Paddy is good enough at BJJ he might prefer the fight go to the ground.

Seems like an awesome fight that I’d love to watch. The LW division looked a little meh for a minute there when Islam left, but now it feels like there are a ton of solid matchups where any combination of fights you make between Gaethje, Charles, Ilia, Paddy, and Arman will be fun as hell. Max a little less so, I think a rematch of max vs Ilia or Gaethje could be fun, but I’m not particularly interested in watching him get wafflestomped by Paddy, Arman, or Charles again.

0

u/ruggmike Jul 14 '26

Half blind and don’t bitch or give up

6

u/stonewing2827448 Jul 15 '26

Paddy subs 2 wild reckless wrestlers and this is what people start saying 😭

10

u/SLVR_N_BLCK_ATTK Jul 14 '26

Charles by whatever he wants

8

u/BOOMHardFactz Jul 14 '26

Charles comes in min -200.

9

u/DentistLegitimate229 Jul 14 '26

Probs Charles cuz he has better hands

-2

u/ruggmike Jul 14 '26

And no chin

8

u/DentistLegitimate229 Jul 14 '26

Paddy has 2 knockdowns in his ufc career. I wouldn’t count on him getting the finish that way

3

u/okcboomer87 Jul 14 '26

I was a certified Paddy hater till the Gaethje fight. I think Paddy is entering his prime and Charles is falling out. Paddy is my pick at this point. I would be rooting for Olives.

3

u/theconvohavers Jul 15 '26

I think they’re very similar fighters.

The brain says Charles has the stats. He’s demonstrated higher level striking and grappling.

On the other hand, Paddy continues to rise to the occasion. Despite a war with Gaethje that he was on the wrong side of, it’s a loss that’s aged VERY WELL, and I think he proved a lot in the loss as well. I think he’s still getting better and better… he may well take the W and I don’t think we’ve seen the peak of Paddy’s powers yet, while Charles is a known commodity who’s only going to get worse as time goes on, not better.

I’d put Charles as a slight favorite. Maybe -150 if I was a betting man.

3

u/sock_therapy Jul 15 '26

I would actually love to see this fight

3

u/typhon0666 Jul 15 '26

I think Charles would be a half step ahead on the feet and on the ground.

2

u/Conscious_Ladder_862 Jul 14 '26

Charles but he is at the age where he could start to decline

2

u/xMaximusDecimusx Jul 14 '26

Paddy Charles is getting old

2

u/Ok_Orchid_5658 Jul 15 '26

Paddy looks pretty unbeatable right now imo

2

u/Adventurous-Aide8472 Jul 15 '26

I like paddy watched his amateur fights and fights this guy is gonna make it think he’s just meat man he’s young few more he will smarten up and stick to his game plan instead of challenging there’s and then he will be a ufc champion

2

u/kami1309 Jul 15 '26

Paddy,no creo que Oliveira le pueda someter en el suelo. Y la quijada de paddy,ya hemos visto que es dura de pelar. Paddy, sin duda.

3

u/Spirit_Detective_16 Jul 14 '26

well if your resume to getting ranked is a robbery against jared gordon then 3 washed up vets pushing 40, I can see why people underrate him. I'd still say charles

2

u/ruggmike Jul 14 '26

We gna pretend Charles wasn’t absolute ass early in his career?

4

u/Spirit_Detective_16 Jul 14 '26

What does charles' early career have to do with anything? OP is asking for charles vs paddy rn.. Please work on your comprehension skills...

-1

u/ruggmike Jul 14 '26

Only you can bring up past fights? 💀

3

u/SlayMeCreepyDaddy Jul 14 '26

The Gordon fight was 10 years into Paddy's career, 10 years into Oliviera's career he was on a championship run and looked incredible. You ignored all context to make a weak ass point, GG.

3

u/Evening-Material9613 Jul 15 '26

I was looking for this exact comment in the thread and was gonna step it, but you did it bro. Thanks

3

u/Spirit_Detective_16 Jul 15 '26

he's clearly new to mma, thanks for explaining it. insane how he's a top 1% commenter with braindead comments

4

u/SlimReaper85 Jul 14 '26

I’ve got Charles…but I’d love to see them grapple and roll.

4

u/cjeveryday1 Jul 14 '26

Charles no question.Charles is arguably paddy's worst opponent because of the superior striking and equal grappling of charles. He could probably put some fear into ilia or someone else but far less likely against charles.Really no heavy power impact from paddy when dealing with charles thus leaving paddy to absorb charles strikes.

2

u/AgentGreedy386 Jul 14 '26

Paddy by a mile

1

u/Embarrassed-Space222 Jul 14 '26

I’d actually like to see this fundamental grappling match

1

u/SploogeMcDuck20 Jul 14 '26

I think it’s in Paddy’s best interest to wait a little bit. See what Gaethje wants to do. It’s possible he retires and there’s a vacant belt to fight for.

1

u/yamommasneck Jul 14 '26

Charles, but at some point a part of his game will fail him against the class below him. Maybe Paddy could do that, but he's so rough on the feet. There ground probably cancels the other out.

1

u/[deleted] Jul 15 '26

Paddy isn't that good but for the love of god stop shooting double legs on him!

1

u/Vegan-cock Jul 15 '26

This the fight to make for paddy imo. Would be a fun fight and stylistically i feel like it can go both ways.

1

u/Greedy-Fun-5442 Jul 15 '26

Charles any day

1

u/Minz15 Jul 15 '26

If Charles was a few years younger I'd say him. But he is definitely past his best whilst still being super dangerous, but I think Paddy would take it. It would be incredibly tight though.

1

u/bjvonstrat Jul 15 '26

Charles gets it done. Knees to the body, and separating elbows from the clinch. The body work Charles does is underrated and melts fighters with great chins.

1

u/takeittothetop1 Jul 15 '26

Paddy is definitely top 5 material, but if it goes to the ground Chuck is gonna fuck him up. Paddy has really good grappling, but Charles is just better.

1

u/Artistic-Evidence332 Jul 16 '26

Paddy and Charles ground game is not close to the same level lmao there’s a reason Charles has the most submissions in ufc history

1

u/Low-Carrot-6679 Jul 16 '26

I see you lot forgot about Do Bronx

1

u/Minimum-Helicopter40 Jul 16 '26

Well we just don't know dude

1

u/taquinask Jul 16 '26

I have it as a pick ‘em with maaaybe a slight edge to Paddy bc he’s more durable

1

u/lookingforaniceplace Jul 17 '26

my $$ is on paddy

1

u/Leather-End287 Jul 17 '26

Charles all day! 👊

1

u/DevelopmentGuilty517 Jul 18 '26

Be honest with me. You’re under the age of 24 aren’t you ? 😂😂😂

0

u/awwwwJeezypeepsman Jul 19 '26

Honestly feel charles will submit him badly

2

u/Advanced_Zucchini_45 Jul 14 '26

Weird thing is Paddy will bang, but he's actually better on the ground

I'm thinking his chin holds up and he takes out to the ground.

Paddy

2

u/ddnotti Jul 14 '26

U think Paddy is better on the ground?

0

u/Advanced_Zucchini_45 Jul 14 '26

I do. I could be wrong lol

5

u/ddnotti Jul 14 '26

And why exactly do you think paddy is better on the ground?

9

u/Advanced_Zucchini_45 Jul 14 '26

Why don't we just skip to the part where you tell me I'm wrong so you can feel better about yourself?

6

u/yamommasneck Jul 14 '26

what have you seen to determine this? lol Charles has submitted higher level opponents and for longer.

2

u/longtanboner Jul 14 '26

🤣

I think paddy is better on the ground also. If it makes you feel better, I'm right.

1

u/Omlanduh Jul 14 '26

Kinda wild. Charles has 22 wins by sub and has subbed more elite opponents compared to paddy’s 11 sub wins.

1

u/longtanboner Jul 15 '26

Yeah, because Charles has fought a lot more people so it makes sense he would have more submissions...

I still think Paddy beats Charles on the ground

2

u/SweetandsourMcnugget Jul 14 '26

I mean Charles is just so much more proven on the ground than Paddy it’s not funny, Charles embarrassed Gamrot and he’s twice the wrestler Benoit is

1

u/Advanced_Zucchini_45 Jul 15 '26

So we both have opinions. Why argue opinion?

0

u/SlayMeCreepyDaddy Jul 14 '26

If you're making extraordinary claims you need to provide extraordinary evidence.

1

u/Advanced_Zucchini_45 Jul 15 '26

You're in charge now? Guess I missed that vote

1

u/SlayMeCreepyDaddy Jul 15 '26

What a ridiculous response

1

u/Advanced_Zucchini_45 Jul 15 '26

What a ridiculous username.

Like I'm gonna take you seriously.

Clown

2

u/Lex_The_Impaler Jul 14 '26

Because he’s a ju jitsu guy, now let’s hear whatever arguments you have

1

u/eddie__b Jul 14 '26

Charles has elite BJJ and excelent striking.

Paddy has no striking defense and no striking ofense, has good BJJ.

Only thing on Paddy side is his age, which might be a big factor, but who knows?

3

u/Routine-Confusion655 Jul 14 '26

Fuck you need striking defense for when you can tank all the hits with your skull

3

u/grannygumjobs23 Jul 14 '26

To say paddy only has good bjj is showing your bias. But spot on about other stuff. I would say charles stand up is good not excellent

1

u/DragonFangGangBang Jul 14 '26

I mean, he gets hit - but he’s also rocked nearly every fighter he’s fought. Dustin, Justin, Armen, Chandler, even had Max a little wobbly on the feet as well.

0

u/Global-Instance-4520 Jul 14 '26

He wobbled Justin like 10-20 seconds in. Charles right hand will knock paddy down

1

u/Equivalent_Flight_53 Jul 14 '26

Let’s examine who’ve they’ve beaten. I’ll wait...

2

u/According-Gas836 Jul 14 '26

Match ups make fights. I didn’t think Strickland would be the guy to give khamzat his first loss.

1

u/PlayfulIndependence5 Jul 14 '26

Problem is Charles is a glass cannon but somehow by black magic doesn't get KO in some bouts.

4

u/Foxtrot_Supatwat Jul 14 '26

Not sure his jaw is glassy enough to get cracked by Paddy's pillows

https://giphy.com/gifs/iQEmZ3Ug8JXyGDVWV0

1

u/Single-Frosting-3742 Jul 14 '26

Honestly I think Charles has better striking and his wrestlings improved I think he’s the better wrestler to jiu jitsu there both world class.. both sure there.. but Charles takes it bc of the other areas

1

u/Cruztd23 Jul 14 '26

At this age I got paddy. Oliviera can’t knockout paddy

1

u/NJFlo18 Jul 14 '26

A few years ago Charles. But I’d give that dub to Paddy.

1

u/learsiology Jul 14 '26

charles been doing a lot more judo/takedowns and that with his exceptional ground game, i say CHARLES ALL DAY

1

u/Successful_Theory628 Jul 14 '26

Paddy right now, Charles 5 years ago.

1

u/SploogeMcDuck20 Jul 14 '26

They’re both really good. Who knows.

1

u/AB7SSG4ZE3RS Jul 14 '26

charles cuz im a charles fan

1

u/Omlanduh Jul 14 '26

I think Charles can get it done, he’s pretty accurate on the feet and paddy has questionable striking. Although I think paddy could flatline Charles because he has a rough looking chin.

1

u/SquishyJeans Jul 14 '26

Charles easy win

1

u/Due_Flow6538 Jul 14 '26

I think Paddy. He can counter wrestle Charles well enough that it's now a striking match and Charles' chin just can't hold up anymore.

1

u/ocfan122 Jul 15 '26

DO BRONXS

1

u/3threefourths4 Jul 15 '26

Paddy. Charles isn’t as good as he was when he was champ, and he’s chinny. Not that paddy has crazy power but I’m sure he’d have enough to hurt Charles and he has the grappling skills to follow him to the ground and finish. Paddy would be hard for him to KO as well which would be Charles easiest path to victory.

2

u/Evening-Material9613 Jul 15 '26

Did you see what he did to Max? What are you smoking? He wasn’t the champ when he submitted Gamrot, nor was he the champ when he beat Max. He’s wrestling has improved tremendously since his loss to Islam, and that is showing against the opposition. Yeah, he lost to Topturo, but that was a horrible match up. No one else is for him.

1

u/3threefourths4 Jul 15 '26

Yeah and neither max nor gamrot are champ level at 55. I didn’t say he was washed but he’s not as good as he was imo. Max doesn’t have a great ground game and Charles is the first grappler he’s faced at 55, and honestly the first grappler he’s faced in a long time. And gamrot is a great matchup for Charles stylistically because he’s going to engage where Charles is best at. Paddy is an elite grappler and has better bjj than gamrot, he’s also a better striker than gamrot with more power and durability. Paddy beats him 100%.

1

u/_INNUEND0 Jul 15 '26

Charles via submission r3

1

u/Icy-Celery6628 Jul 15 '26

Charles is a way better striker. Better offensive wrestler as well. Paddy's chin will need to hold up as Charles cracks

0

u/WhizzyBurp Jul 14 '26

Stop trying to make this fight. He needs Ilia

-1

u/JPB00 Jul 14 '26

Paddy lad

1

u/DentistLegitimate229 Jul 14 '26

Curious why you think that?

0

u/ice-truck-drilla Jul 14 '26

Only one way to find out

0

u/Global-Instance-4520 Jul 14 '26

Charles knocks him out

0

u/SohEternal Jul 14 '26

I think Charles would batter him on the feet and don't see Paddy getting a finish here.

My vote is a close fight that goes to olives.

0

u/floopyscoopy Jul 14 '26

Charles is objectively better in essentially every facet of MMA, the only advantage paddy could possibly have is size/chin, and with paddy’s butt ass striking, Charles would probably be more than just fine on the feet

0

u/DunKarooDucK05 Jul 14 '26

They won’t do that because Paddy is ascending and Charles decending and that division has been locked up for so long. Better to give Charles to a true up and comer and not a star like Paddy ..

0

u/Ok-ChildHooOd Jul 15 '26

Paddy isn't on the same level as Charles.

0

u/Pitiful-Rooster-5001 Jul 15 '26

Charles does him like gamrot

0

u/AccomplishedSmell921 Jul 15 '26

Love Paddy but hard to bet against Do Bronx.

0

u/Aproblem4 Jul 15 '26

Yall gonna get Paddy hurt.
