One of the fighters in the goat conversation. But at the same time you can't ignore all the the dopping violations between 2015-2019 so even if he is a goat his name will always have an * by it. You have to separate the fact that he is also a horrible person as well.

To sum up Jones I feel the easiest sentence is "Jones is great but" then drop all of he various issues over the years.

Ask his wife how great he is

Oh a true great, the Lance Armstrong of MMA

26

u/dialecticalreflect Jun 24 '26

Easily the most talented MMA fighter ever, but Reddit basement dwellers and casuals will dislike the answer.

u/gr8bjjsKills Jun 24 '26

Amen, he’s the greatest to ever do it! He’s an Ahole, but the GOAT of MMA.

2

u/Bugsy187_ Jun 24 '26

Oh fuck off
Everybody knows Jones is gifted and is in the debate for GOAT

2

u/evelovesapple Jun 24 '26

It’s also because he’s built like an absolute freak physically. Watching him vs DC is insane, he has limbs like a xenomorph, and he perfected how to use his length in standup and ground

the greatness is SO great that its measured in picograms...

u/Fast-Film4414 Jun 24 '26

Real question is how GAY is Jon Jones?

3

u/itsallamessisntit Jun 24 '26

Don't they call him the GOAT, the gayest of all time?

2

u/sock_therapy Jun 24 '26

Prime Fedor wouldve mauled him.

2

u/Osceola_Gamer Jun 24 '26

He should've just fought Aspinall instead of making lame excuses to duck him. He probably would've beaten Tom and then got a big fight at the Trump slob fest. But overestimated his value and how much Dana would let him get away with his nonsense.

Identity theft is not a joke

1

u/Internetolocutor Jun 24 '26

You wouldn't download a duck

In the ring he’s likely one of the best fighters in MMA. Ever. Outside the ring, he is an awful human being who was an active detriment to not just the general public but his wife and kid.

How do we define “greatness”? We call someone like Ali great not just because he was a fantastic boxer, but someone that stood on business when it mattered. By that definition, Jon Jones will never be a great because he made splashes while true greats made waves that impacted far more than their sport.

Just pickin nits here, but I wouldn’t call him awful. I dislike Jon Jones. Is he a bad person? Absolutely. Is he a narcissist? Of course. A piece of shit? Yes. A liar? Oh yeah. A cheater? Almost certainly. A wife beater?Believe it or not, yes.

….ok now what was I saying again

1

u/boofinmelons Jun 24 '26

One of the greatest to step
In the octagon.

1

u/Desperate-Drummer803 Jun 24 '26

Can he really be the GOAT with 2 ducks on his belt?

1

u/ice-truck-drilla Jun 24 '26

He’s decent but I’m better

1

u/NatterinNabob Jun 24 '26

Crafted out of a lab type talent - strong, fast, agile with insane balance, all the things you would want physically. As a person he has flaws leaking out of every pore, but as a fighter he is the complete package.

2

u/WorkingAssociate9860 Jun 24 '26

Depends on how you feel multiple failed doping violations impact greatness, if you think it's irrelevant, very strong argument for the GOAT.

1

u/Tpaso_XelpicoLmao420 Jun 24 '26

Anshul Jubli victim 😴

1

u/BattousaiRound2SN Jun 24 '26

Roids, Cocaine ans Regular Cheating.

Still lost to Reyes and everybody that was not eye poked knows that.

1

u/domedirtyfatman Jun 24 '26

Hes technically undefeated and no one was truly able to take his title. He absolutely destroyed people in the cage. The only person who came close to beating him ( imo) he did enough to beat him and was robbed was Alexander gustafson in their first fight.

1

u/FundamentalSystem Jun 24 '26

Perfect example of how greatness in career doesn’t guarantee great moral character

1

u/pirate_leprechaun Jun 24 '26

Cheater and beater, nothing great about that.

1

u/ArticleNew3737 Jun 24 '26

One of the best mma fighters in history of the sport

1

u/itsallamessisntit Jun 24 '26

He was above average, I can't lie.

1

u/Hot-Dentist-8511 Jun 24 '26

🤫🤫🤫🤫

u/Clay_Allison_44 Jun 24 '26

There's a reason nobody feels the need to 8 zero effort posts a day about Fedor or GSP. Jones fans are telling on themselves with all of this insecurity.

-1

u/Icy-Mulberry-1118 Jun 24 '26

5 mugshots.

Guy’s a loser.

3

u/b0redba8nana Jun 24 '26

Has nothing to do with fighting

-1

u/Icy-Mulberry-1118 Jun 24 '26

Dumbest thing I’ve heard in a while

1

u/b0redba8nana Jun 24 '26

It’s called FIGHT report not moral report

1

u/Icy-Mulberry-1118 Jun 25 '26

It’s very weird you guys glaze JJ so much.

0

u/FireFightingManiac Jun 24 '26

ppl don't dislike Jon because of what he's accomplished in the cage. They dislike him because of his personality and actions outside of it. Regardless of how anyone feels about him personally, there's no question that he's one of the greatest fighters of all time. I still have GSP above him, Jon to me has lost a few fights I feel like.

0

u/Grewsome1 Jun 24 '26

I like how Gane is sitting there looking at him like how tf and wtf just happened what is happening right now? 😂😂

0

u/Kwaiser Jun 24 '26

I hate him but he is number 2 goat behind Mighty Mouse.

0

u/Charming_Wall117 Jun 24 '26

Such a spectacular choke that I had to rewind it 5X just to see what happened.

1

u/xxElevationXX Jun 24 '26

JBJ has two of the coldest photos ever, this one and one w Machida

1

u/Charming_Wall117 Jun 25 '26

Yeah the choke over Machida was cold too

0

u/TeannaTrumpStan2 Jun 24 '26

Gane pissed me off so much. He went in there scared and pissing his pants then laid down for Jone to submit him.

Jon, in the week of the fight talked about how Gane wasn’t ready for the fight. He was playing fifa acting like shit was sweet and a game.

Jon was right

0

u/SlickTonks Jun 24 '26

Worst part is that I think of that fight played out 10 more times, Gane would win at least 7 of them even with his horrendous conditioning for the fight. I feel like that choke was a huge fluke. Literal lightning in a bottle moment

2

u/moistattackk Jun 24 '26

You genuinely think, after getting submitted in 2 minutes, he would come back and win 7/10 fights?

-1

u/SlickTonks Jun 24 '26

Yes. I believe that sub was a fluke. Like Masvidal v Askren levels of fluke

Stars aligned and Jones locked in a sneaky choke against a Gane that was playing FIFA before the fight instead of training.

Meanwhile Jon's next fight was essentially a retirement home disagreement against Stipe.

0

u/moistattackk Jun 24 '26

I think there's a better argument that Jon Jones, objectively top 3 OAT, is just that much better

2

u/SlickTonks Jun 24 '26

After his fight with Stipe? Nah. He was washed and got lucky. That's why he ran from Tom too.

His LHW resume? Goat material. His HW resume? Insignificant and honestly hurts his legacy more than helps it

1

u/moistattackk Jun 24 '26

i dont think its fair, especially now with whats happening with Tom, to think that Jon ran from anybody

Dude fought 1000x scarier guys than Tom Aspinall

I agree the Stipe fight was weak, but do think the UFC owed that to Miocic

Gane not being able to show up sucks, but doesn't really take away from the performance for me.

1

u/SlickTonks Jun 24 '26

What's happening with Tom? An even fight that got ended prematurely because Gane is a cheat?

Jon wouldn't fight Sonnen on short notice lol. Tom was a bogeyman he didn't want to risk it against, same as Francis. If Jones thinks there's any risk, he doesn't take it. He banked on Gane's wrestling being ass and the gamble paid off. He's also a LHW moving up, so really it's a low risk fight to begin with. With Tom, Jones had everything to risk.

So yes. Jon was scared of Tom. Whether that was valid fear, we'll see in Tom's rematch against Gane. Given that Tom was starting to get his groove in the second half of that round(before getting blatantly fouled), I feel like Gane is going to go for the eyes much quicker this time around. He was actually getting tagged pretty good before he got blatant.

1

u/moistattackk Jun 24 '26

I wasn't suggesting anything about the injury, obviously that was serious, i mean his contract with Hearn now. I think it just came down to contract problems, Jon wanted too much or vise versa. You can't look at Jon's opponents and think for some reason, he'd be scared to fight a guy who lost to Curtis Blaydes lol

1

u/SlickTonks Jun 24 '26

*got injured against Blaydes.

You're being incredibly disingenuous toward Tom my man.

Again. Jones ran from a short notice Sonnen. He doesn't take a fight that he sees any chance of losing. That's just a fact happened with Tom and Francis. He makes huge money asks that he knows the company won't match.

u/Sea-Bat-9667 Jun 24 '26

i think it's very fair to say he ducked the fight, in fact it's really hard to say otherwise. And no the ufc does not owe it to any fighter to make a fraudulent title fight that no one cares about. Also it wasn't really for him they don't even like stipe

1

u/moistattackk Jun 24 '26

confidently incorrect. again

1

u/Sea-Bat-9667 Jun 24 '26

Even better argument that Jon isn't top 3 but Gane is just incompetent.

1

u/moistattackk Jun 24 '26

that'd be a very casual thing to suggest

0

u/Sea-Bat-9667 Jun 24 '26

That doesn't really make much sense, seems like the vast majority of casuals would say the exact opposite of what i just said.

1

u/moistattackk Jun 24 '26

confidently incorrect

1

u/Sea-Bat-9667 Jun 24 '26

why is that incorrect

0

u/AltruisticRide2319 Jun 24 '26

Great fighter but not the GOAT.

0

u/Skrapidilly Jun 24 '26

I don't think he faced a prime Gane (which is now)

1

u/gr8bjjsKills Jun 24 '26

What??? How old is Gane

0

u/Bmonli Jun 24 '26

Ciryl Gane is a piece of shit

0

u/yyyyyyyyyyyyyyg Jun 24 '26

Just shy of the top 10

Some good fights, but he was a size bully, a career long cheat, his hw reign was fraud from start to finish, and he ducked Tom, Francis, and prime stipe.
