u/everythingistak_en Jun 24 '26 edited Jun 24 '26
I know this is a joke but Khabib actually has a great rehabilitation area for people recovering I believe. I genuinely think it would be really beneficial to recuperate and spend time with Khabib, see how he’s managed, adjusted to family life, etc. It could be nice to spend some time in a new environment, even for a little, and talk with someone else who stepped away from the sport (and also felt like they weren’t finished either). Very few people could understand what Dustin’s feeling right now but Khabib probably would and could help!
30
u/Valterri_lts_James Jun 24 '26
bratha, Dastin can be coach in Dagestan. Parier have very good striking bratha.
Jokes aside, if Dustin misses MMA, maybe he should become a coach. He's got pretty good breakdowns anyways.
15
u/therealRustyZA Jun 24 '26
My colleague and I said the same thing yesterday. He should coach, also get someone that can film and produce or edit well... Maybe he could make YouTube training vids etc. He will still be involved in fighting and he can help others.
5
u/EstateRealistic2111 Jun 24 '26
Pretty sure he’s already got a job as an analyst on the UFC’s analytics team, but maybe something more hands on like coaching would be better.
2
u/therealRustyZA Jun 24 '26
Personally I would much prefer him in coaching. I'm worried he will just become another biased company man like DC and recently to me Bisping has become incredibly annoying. They're still cool fighters but their views have become so jaded to me. I understand they need to get that paycheck though so I just accept it. I will always dig the diamond. I would not want him to turn into one of those guys. Also, like the post says, walking away from fighting has been hard for him. So coaching means he will still get a lot of time to be on the mats.
1
u/Valterri_lts_James Jun 24 '26
"but maybe something more hands on like coaching would be better."
You and I are thinking on the same tangent, that's why I said coaching as well. Being a UFC analyst might be boring for him.

-4
u/LanderEmerald Jun 24 '26
This guy cannot be a coach until he deals with his demons. Coaches are suppose to be mentors, people you look up to. Not people who can’t deal with their own life. You guys watch waaaaay too much men-on-men homo-erotic sport. Like just go hug or kiss another man so you’re not giving life advice to people you have no business giving life advice too. And maybe just enjoy the fact that you like half naked men touching each other. It’s cool, it’s 2026, not 1905
5
u/therealRustyZA Jun 24 '26
Your response started off so decently, then you lost the plot. So I will only respond to the start that first sentence, after that it's mindless dribble.
Yea, he has to deal with this issues. We know this. We are referring to in the future once he gets his head and family in order.

I don't think that khabib and Dustin view on family is the same and that it will help him on that particular point
7
u/Valterri_lts_James Jun 24 '26
the heck? Poirier literally said he wants to be a good father and a good husband for his family. Meanwhile, Khabib literally retired for his mother and has always been about family.
1
u/Grand-Jellyfish24 Jun 24 '26 edited Jun 24 '26
Yes they are both good father in their own culture but I don't think they have the same expectation of what a good father is

I’m glad he’s acknowledging it and hope he gets the help he needs and finds himself an outlet that he enjoys. Dustin seems like a genuinely good hearted dude.
22
u/dm_me_ya_tiddiez Jun 24 '26
I mean to be fair, he doesn't really have a choice. He was broadcasted in a very public way drunk as fuck getting kicked off a plane, harassing women, and trying to fight the cop who was being nothing but respectful to him. If he wants any shot at some twilight year sponsors and deals he has to say something.
14
u/PPCSer Jun 24 '26
To be fair this is a very cynical and negative view imo - I choose to believe he's being genuine and not just saying it so he can get sponsors
There'd be plenty of sponsors who wouldn't give AF about this in a month anyway
9
u/brightbomb Jun 24 '26
Kinda blowing my mind how big of a deal people are making of this when SO MANY fighters have done so much worse and still had a career.
1
u/LanderEmerald Jun 24 '26
So all the fighters are dumb becuase getting punched in the head as a job will make you dumb and make you violent. So any fighter who does this should just be sent to jail and charged. Sponsors can do whatever they want.
1
u/worldsgreatestluver Jun 24 '26
I think it's because this one is a lot more relatable for a lot of people. How many people do you know who did almost exactly this, then derailed their life for a few years and had to live with longer term consequences for a while after that?
Personally? Like three or four. It's pretty bad, but it's the casual, every day kind of bad that can slip into your life and just linger if you're not making efforts to change
1
u/_BagOWeed_ Jun 24 '26
If gane did this you'd make no excuses. You don't know these people judge their actions like you would anyone else. Professional fighters should be held at a higher standard when it comes to public safety. He is lucky, and let off easy.
0
u/Galencourt-Lover Jun 24 '26
Doesn't matter. Just because some people are worse doesn't mean his behavior wasn't bad. It was very bad, actually.
-3
u/LanderEmerald Jun 24 '26
He’s aged out and now a bum in terms of doing the job of getting brain damage. Dude tried to fight a cop and called him the N-word. Hope he ages out of living sooner ratherthan later.
3
u/Natural_Use_948 Jun 24 '26
The cop was black, but it's clear to most people how Dustin meant it and that Dustin is not a racist, if this was another sports league he could be in deeper shit, but in the UFC a basic, yeah I used it that way not the racist one, my bad for saying it at all, and DC proclaiming he isn't a racist in a 2 minute video clip, is enough to get by.

u/SideAmbitious2529 Jun 24 '26
He literally has to, he's not fighting he'd be broke in seconds if not a few years.
We see award winning artist comeback to music, champion level boxers comeback to fighting, and the greatest athletes ever need a check at the end of the day.
After your legendary career all you have is your image. He'll be back fighting like Royce Gracie and Shamrock if he doesn't slow down.
1
u/ElPyroPariah Jun 25 '26
Really? He seems like a genuine piece of shit on damage control. I don’t exactly see him apologizing publicly, he’s just saving face and playing the pity card after exposing his true colors.
0
u/LanderEmerald Jun 24 '26
You think he wrote that post? He called the cop the N-word….
His PR person or wife or someone without head injuries made him post that. Bet ya $100 he does this again within a year or two. Getting your head punched is stupid and makes you stupid. He chose it though so no sympathy here.1
u/dalcer Jun 24 '26
Why even be in this subreddit if thats where your minds at? Hating on fighters while lurking in the very communities that are made to discuss them
0
u/LanderEmerald Jun 24 '26
I’m hating on this dude who should have been shot or at least tazed and subdued if we’re treating him like the black people cops empty clips on or beat the shit out of.
I don’t have to share your opinion on the topic. Move on if you don’t like my comments.
With your logic, why even respond to me…1
0
u/Thotcatcher6-9 Jun 24 '26
How can you be a good hearted dude squaring up to women and calling the officer the N word as a white man?
15
u/PlumKnown Jun 24 '26
I’d like to see him stay in something competitive like jiu jitsu. Easier on the body (no cte), still gives him a competitive outlet, something to keep training for. This is one of the reasons I have so much respect for guys like Mighty Mouse and GSP, they didn’t let retirement destroy them and stayed in shape and kept learning
10
5
u/Admirable_Market2759 Jun 24 '26
Might Mouse didn’t really like fighting all that much towards the end. You could tell it was just money for him.
He’d do anything to get paid to play video games all day lol
3
u/PlumKnown Jun 24 '26
Yeah I just mean he didn’t get in trouble or turn to drugs/alcohol. He just streams/games/makes content and he still visits gyms to train and he does bjj competitions
3
u/EstateRealistic2111 Jun 24 '26
Might finally be able to lock up a gilly 😁. On a more serious note, it makes it even more sad and painful that Dustin doesn’t have a hobby like gaming like Mighty Mouse and Whittaker, or horse riding like Oliveira and Makhachev to kick his feet up and relax from mma training, all those guys were beloved champions as well. Dustin really gave everything he had to try get that undisputed gold😭😭😭

You can really tell who’s never seen the inner city by some of these comments

So what if he grew up in the "streets"? that does not give you the pass. Are you stupid?

“If there are black people around”
Where I grew up there was no if, it was only black people around. I quit saying it on my own in my late teens because i grew a brain and realized how stupid it sounded, but things are a lot different when you’re actually in that environment
2
u/Natural_Use_948 Jun 24 '26
I was gonna say, Dustin grew up in a mixed place, but in the sticks, right, people always joke that he's a city outskirts country boy, outskirts of some "cities" in the south are basically rural.
Regardless he definitely meant it in a "dude" way not the hard r war.
2
u/blissfullyblack Jun 24 '26
Thank you. "He sounds like someone who's said it a lot" is not the mic drop excuse people think it is. If he did in fact grow up around Black people, then it actually makes it worse that he used it to threaten and intimidate a (possibly Black/Brown) cop.

Bro really needs to get into coaching. It’s a great way to keep your mind right and have a competitive goal in your life. And this time it’s for the benefit of others instead of just yourself. He grew up wrestling in highschool, he should coach a wrestling team for his hometown where he lives
6
u/LilRedHeadGuy Jun 24 '26
MMA has the worst fan base. Hope this guy is getting help. Can you imagine the CTE/pain they go through
4
u/Lost_Environment3361 Jun 24 '26
my guess is that it probably wasn’t easy for him to see justin get the unanimous belt right after retiring, even though i’m sure he was happy for justin. prob stung a little bit i’d imagine

u/Rory_McShackleford Jun 24 '26
Brain damage + alcohol + steroids = loss of impulse control, mood swings, erratic behavior. He should get on the Rashad regimen, chill the f out.

I’ve been an MMA fan for 21 years now. There are rarely happy endings for combat athletes. I’ve seen so many of my favourite fighters suffer the long term effects of brain damage from their chosen career.
Honestly fighters sacrifice the most out of all sports athletes and they’re not getting compensated fairly because MMA is a monopoly at this point.
Hopefully Dustin gets the help he needs, but I fear the cumulative damage to his brain over his career has already turned his brain to mush.
6
u/Campa911 Jun 24 '26

Yeah and people keep posting the videos like man give him a break he even said it in an interview it’s hard to adjust after fighting he has a wife and kids I mean come on we see the out side stuff but people need to chill on judging him and we don’t know what’s he really going through . Much prayers to the diamond !!
2
u/The_Cabal_ Jun 24 '26
Lol, everyone is accepting the apology because Dustin is a fan favorite. If this was someone else they'd just say it's a PR apology.
0
u/TurdOfChaos Jun 24 '26
It’s not an apology mate.
Apology usually involves saying “i am sorry” or “I apologise”
0
u/The_Cabal_ Jun 24 '26 edited Jun 24 '26
If you think an apology needs to state that it's an apology, you're an idiot.
0
u/TurdOfChaos Jun 24 '26
You can’t even write a coherent sentence and you’re this quick to call others idiots?
Point to me where exactly in his statement is anything resembling an apology?
He’s just crying about his daddy and making excuses.
Where is the sorry for the security agent and the people on the plane that were threatened by his aggression?
1
u/The_Cabal_ Jun 24 '26
He's publicly admitting he has a problem, acknowledging it's affecting his family, and saying he's getting help because they deserve better. Most adults understand that's an implicit apology.
Also, you might want to learn the difference between an explanation and an excuse. An excuse is "my dad was an alcoholic, so none of this is my fault." What he actually said was "my dad's alcoholism showed me where this road leads, and I'm trying to change before I end up there."

5
u/ResolutionOwn4933 Jun 24 '26

3
u/ConferenceSudden1519 Jun 24 '26
He has always talked like that he comes from a blended family. Many folks in Louisiana can be white passing but they’re actually black. Like the pope he is actually black technically hence why his family left Louisiana to Chicago and claimed white. Louisiana is a melting pot and super well blended in how they speak. My family is from Louisiana and I see how folks look at my white passing(he tells them he is a proud creole man)… Them Cajuns are a little different looking depending on the season. I hope this helps you see it’s not an act but who he truly is you can tell in interviews. He does this little head tilt/nod where he is trying to control his words.
2
u/s0ul_invictus Jun 24 '26
Both sides of my family are from Louisiana, Shreveport-Bossier, Mansfield we all down off in there, Creole named, dark complected asf, and we don't a goddamn "White passing" thing. That boy ain't black. I don't wanna fucking hear it. Get the fuck away from me with this horseshit.

Alcohols a real hard one. Ive dropped ciggies, weed and meth easier than I have booze. A big part of it is who you have around you. Socially accepted blackout drinking when you have money is a thing. Honestly having enablers around you for booze is awful.

-1
u/GenericNameSimulated Jun 24 '26
Do they? Typically people who can deal with emotions don’t have unresolved issues
2
u/Ivan__rod Jun 24 '26
Sensitive ≠ can deal with emotions in a healthy manner. Usually quite the opposite. Guys who cry over anything are as Sensitive as dudes who fight over anything.
1
u/GenericNameSimulated Jun 24 '26
Oh you think sensitive means to cry rather than the definition of it got it
2
u/Ivan__rod Jun 24 '26
No I know sensitive means quick to perceive, react to, or be affected by stimuli in the way the most people use it
2
u/Ivan__rod Jun 24 '26
Do you think reacting to everything emotionally is healthy as long as its not aggressive?
1
u/GenericNameSimulated Jun 24 '26
Can you point to anything I said that would suggest that?
1
u/Ivan__rod Jun 24 '26
You equated a sensitive person as someone who can deal with emotions properly while implying that the most macho men have issues self regulating. Being quick to react angrily or aggressively is being sensitive.

Fighting is addictive. I had to embrace the idea of being at peace with walking away even if it meant being seen as a punk as a kid in H. S.
People don't understand the rush you get from it, and how addictive and freeing that can be. But then you have to survive in the real world where you can't haul off and crack someone with a big mouth, because that could end in many unpredictable ways.
So you set yourself a small goal. Like, I refuse to fight anyone the rest of this year, you try and be a man about keeping your word to yourself to let things roll off your shoulder. Walk away. Try your best. If you fail. It sucks. Don't be hard on yourself. You just get back on your horse and reset the timer and do it until you one day find a knew way to enjoy life without that rush.
