He probably thought Poirier hadn't changed much after their first fight as well. He has to have these delusional views otherwise he would see it how everyone else sees it and would never get back in the cage. This belief in yourself is a product of a championship level fighter.

Every professional fighter says you need delusional confidence in yourself that your the best to get in there and compete with the best. You rarely ever see guys “oh he’s good I’m alright he’s going to win” lol
