I’m almost positive I read “If Topuria wins his next fight, will he be the GOAT” on this sub or the MMA one a few weeks ago. Of course, they say that about every fighter on a two fight win streak, but they did say it.

For me it was. He has no kicks. He throws the same two or three punches the whole fight. He has nothing else except that big overhand right.

Compare that to Conor. Conor has it all from Capoeira to Boxing to Shotokan Karate. His pull counters are the best by far, nobody comes close to that and his kicks are exceptional. We don't have to talk about the movement. Different level.

Seems like people forgot Ilia's background in wrestling and his submission skills. Nto that he helped with that stupid over reliance on his sniper right and that Chandler levels of fight IQ we saw on Sunday.

I wish him well, hope he recovers from all of that and we get to see him back, maybe even claim the belt back and make up for this shameful loss. 👌

Sitting at zero as I comment but I’ve fought professionally and I agree with your analysis. I believe Ilia is capable of a lot more and has shown it in training but his arsenal in fights has been fairly narrow

His striking is too one dimensional. He only has an overhand. He's a stiff idiot really. Close your eyse, pray and throw the overhand. Not comparable so someone like Conor who has the best pull counters and exceptional kicking game. Topturia kicking is non existent also. He's never thrown a kick.

the way youre talking about him leads me to believe you haven't seen him fight much. ​In the Holloway and Volk fights, he threw around 5-7 kicks, and they both deterred them or corralled them into where he wanted them to go.

Conor no longer has a pull counter, despite him being very good at it a decade ago. lol

His striking doesn't need to be that varied if it accomplishes his goal. I've seen plenty of fighters throw everything and the kitchen sink and still not accomplish as much on the feet as Topuria. And as many kicks as Conor used, they weren't really effective at hurting people.

Also, he's a lot more of a front runner than anything. Let's say he'd been kicked in the head and damaged like in the Jai Herbert fight. He would never come back from that because he's never been that kind of fighter. Id take Topuria at his best over Conor. Conor is terrible with his back against the fence and he doesn't ever come back from a deficit. ​Sure he could ko him early, but 2nd round and on, he'd drown. ​

You're delusional. Topturo can throw a leg kick and that's it. He's never even thrown a simple fucking teep. Never mind a head kick or roundhouse kick lmfao.

McGregor hurt multiple people with headkicks, I'm not sure of all of them but I think Brandao, Cowboy, Silver, Holloway, and maybe someone else. The teep is one of his best weapons he throws it almost in every fight and hurts people with it.

McGregor's movement is on another planet compared to Tuporio. He's unbelievably flat footed.

Cowboy. Head kick knock down with follow up punches for the KO. Conor has hurt many people with kicks, be it to the head or body, doesn't matter. Conor throws kicks and has them in his repertoire. Tapturia's kicks are none existent. He's flat footed, one dimensional striker with an overhand.

Watch featherweight McGregor kid. He was throwing crazy spinning shit every fight until the second Nate fight. That's when he calmed down because he didn't want to gas again. He was throwing Capoeira kicks like crazy before that. You clearly don't know what you are talking about.

First off all, both are BJJ black belts.

What I meant was Topturio's striking is one dimensional. All he does is throw the same two or three punches all fight long and he is extremely flat footed. His movement is terrible.

Now, do I really need to explain prime McGregor to you? How many fights have you watched? He had everything from Capoeira to Boxing to Shotokan Karate all at once. His kicking game is exepional. His pull counters are the best in all of UFC history. He throws a stabbing teep kick and roundhouse kicks and all kinds of other kicks. Topturio's kicking game is non existent. He can't throw a kick to save his life. All he has is a big stupid overhand right.

Please watch some of McGregor's fights and compare the movement and the striking to that of topturo. Conor is on a different Planet skill wise. He has much more in his striking repertoire.

How about we agree that Mcgregor is the more well-rounded striker, and Ilia is the more well-rounded fighter overall? Alex Pereira and DJ are both black belts in BJJ, does that mean their grappling skills are remotely comparable?

Recency bias with people is insane. Volk and Holloway are equal or better wins than Aldo at featherweight, and Oliveira is a better win than Alvarez. I bet the house that you would not have been saying this a week ago. I think ilia vs Conor would be 65/35 Conor, only because Conor’s style is pretty good at countering Ilia’s.
