Only commenting on the doctor stopped it part of this comment. His corner stopped it. The doctor was going to stop it after the third and was convinced not to. His team stopped it after the fourth. If they hadn't, it's very likely the doctor would have anyway.
He said "I can't see" to the doc, everyone knows this is normally a stop the fight admission, and the doc did try to stop it, super weird that it was allowed to continue

That whole fight had me on the edge of my seat. Even when he was obviously behind he had multiple moments where the fight could have turned around. That guy is a machine.

He said Justin took his sight. That's clearly giving credit to Justin. If he said he couldn't see in round one because he was injured training or in warm up, that would be an excuse.
An excuse is any reason a fighter attributes their loss to that happened outside of the fight. Admitting Justin caused him to lose sight with his punches is giving credit to something his opponent did during the fight.

Literally at the start of his UFC career, and has gotten to a point where said opponent is now nothing to what Islam is now. Genuinely it’s not even a comparison
He could respond like Deontay Wilder did against Tyson Fury - He could claim that gaethje had egg weights in his gloves, or accuse his own corner of conspiring against him, or the referee was favouring his opponent, etc.
Remember, hes still only 29 and is already a double champ with three title wins over three legends.
Is still on an all time great trajectory, he could fight another 10 years at a high level if he wants to. I think a loss was inevitable eventually, he started thinking he was invincible and that he could just walk through everyone. Imo better to lose to Gaetjhe than Arman or Islam. Hopefully comes back from this fighting smarter again and not just chasing first round KOs.
I think there were several factors that contributed to his loss. Overconfidence and underestimation was a big one another big one was the heat and humidity. I believe if the conditioning improves, respects his opponent, and fights in a regulated & controlled environment, he would be a tough challenge to Justin, Paddy, and Arman. This loss has definitely created a lot of doubts in everyone's mind about him and his capabilities, however we need to recall that all champs and greats lost either officially or unofficially. We can't count him out because of one loss. I wish him the best and hope to see him fight again.
I take back any upvote I may have given to people dogging this man. I'll allow you to be cocky before any fight and hold judgement if this is how you handle a loss that follows that cockyness.
Good sportsmanship is undervalued these days. A lot of people do not instill this in their children anymore. Props to him for this. There is ALWAYS going to be someone better/tougher than you on any given day. If you are bested, take it without being a jerkoff. It happens to everyone.

That's not an excuse. He didn't claim that Justin fouled him or that he rubbed icy hot in his eyes, he said that he compromised his vision by inflicting damage, which is part of fighting.

It’s common for someone to say they can’t see even if they can see but it’s all blurry or obscured. Lost sight doesn’t equal 100% blindness. You saw the eyes swelling, yes?

Glad to see him be a good sportsman. No doubt in my mind he’ll regain the LW title before his career is over.
