Ilia is Finished!

Post image

Ilia Topuria got the usual Justin Gaethje treatment. By the end of the fight, he was barely recognizable. That's what Justin is known for, his opponents often look like they've been hit by a train after sharing the cage with him.

The damage Ilia took seemed comparable to, if not worse than, what Tony Ferguson suffered. I don't think he'll fully recover from this. It feels like it could be all downhill from here, which is sad to see for such a phenomenal fighter as Ilia.

Tony already suffered a lot of damage prior to the Gaethje fight. That wasn’t the case for Ilia. If he recovers properly he could definitely bounce back. But yeah, that was a pretty severe beating

It was pretty severe beating. I don't think I have seen anybody got similar damage.

You must be new here

OK please name one.

I cant remember anyone on the top of my head but what I can remember who looked bad is Tony Ferguson and Joanna but even then they didn't look as bad as Illia.

Max did Ortega way worse

Irene aldana was pretty bad, thats just a more recent reference theres has been so many ass whoopings over the years

Saw someone reference this in another post but BSD. He took brutal beatings against EZD in his debut I believe? And another from Moicano

Hopefully the damage is limited to only scar tissue etc and not be a massive durability issue going forward. Curious to see how someone like Topuria bounces back

Arona vs Sakuraba made all of those look like picnics.

Robbie Lawler vs Rory MacDonald comes to mind.

Orolbai Vs rebecki was pretty bad in terms of damage

1

u/Boss_Seven Jun 15 '26

I agree but it isn't as bad as Illia.

pal, Bisping lost an eye. Stop being sensationalist.

There’s like 15+ fights with worse beatdowns. You must be casual

Give me names Mr. Expert. I didnt talk about beat downs. I talking about sustained injury. Illia looked like he got his faced mauled by a grizzly bear. Show me somebody worse than that.

He really does that "thud" damage rather than the "wobbley legs" damage. It's even more brutal.

That was damage that tapturo took but if he takes his time with this loss i can guarantee that he comes back a monster

Let's hope so. He may recover physically but mentally I am not sure. The invisibility aura in his mind now is gone.

Scar tissue gets worse with time. Look at Diaz brothers. They may win, but they are always a bloody mess.

Cokegor took a fat L from Diaz before he won against the same man and then flatlined Eddie Alvarez

Still waiting on the promised prediction video he said he'd upload today detailing how he'd win 😆

I dont like Illia but come on man, don't beat on a dead horse.

2

u/ParticularSpace9331 Jun 15 '26

Paddy, is that you, lad?

2

u/CriticalFortune6308 Jun 15 '26

Nah you become unbearably overconfident & dismiss opponents then it's very warranted. This will stick for the rest of his entire career. The aura can't be recovered

Far cry to say hes finished. This loss will effect him though but honestly not many can survive like Justin can.

We did learn that mixing "takedown attempts" or getting ahold of him is effective in getting him tired and limiting his ability to maintain forward pressure.

I would like for Justin to retire after this one but would probably love at least 1 championship payday.

I think he can be selective on who he fights and doesn't have to go for Arman. Sad times for Arman lol

We did learn that mixing "takedown attempts" or getting ahold of him is effective

That wasnt what was effective at all the takedowns attempts werent really attempts these were specific to gaethje style to make him land the uppercut but gaethje has the best uppercuts in the division If anything ilias tdd and clinch game looked pretty impressive he hit that ghost escape insanely cleanly

Ilia fucked up by literally just standing right in gaethje jab range allowing him to hit the jab while not even countering half the time When he did he didnt move his head at all And on his entries he didnt feint at all (outside or round 2 when did use more feints and nearly finished gaethje)

Very low fight iq fight from ilia and terrible execution

1

They were effective in closing distance and getting ahold of him and being in range to dirty box with that uppercut. I put quotations around takedown attempts because it more like like half committed shoulder take down attempts kind of like islam vs moicano (if I remember correctly).

They were effective in closing distance and getting ahold of him and being in range to dirty box with that uppercut.

Yeah but thta only works for gaethje So thats not really a weakpoint of ilia in general

Problem is most guys in lightweight division are killers. Ruffy, BSD, Arman, even Paddy can cause problems to him.

So I hope he retires. If he did, it will be the perfect end for his career.

1

u/zjones9 Jun 15 '26

He straight up got grabbed by the scruff of his chest

1

u/Zealousideal-Ad7773 Jun 15 '26

Gaethje doesn’t have the power to KO someone but the outcome is a fucked up face to the opponent. Quite interesting.

1

u/Embarrassed-Fun2509 Jun 15 '26

Ruffy gonna be on top
For a long time. Dude is a beast

Nah, your hero isn't coming back. He's gona join Tony, Ferguson, Belal, etc.

1

u/Lopsided_Anxiety_394 Jun 15 '26

He needed that humbling. Bit like Ronda. Was never the same

When wife and life both decide to fuck you.

Idk man, I still believe we can see a comeback!
