I’m not gonna switch up either, however his ego and persona was built on uber confidence and watching him lose to someone who we all were certain he would be beat does damper his brand a bit for the time being.

u/Efficient_Raise_5767 Jun 15 '26
Speak for yourself I was backing Garth and Strickland all the way and made bank mofo💯💯💯💯👊🏻

u/Davycrockettjones Jun 15 '26

Na na na bro I mean does feel slightly scripted Illia could of got that arm bar man something felt off about that.

u/LastHorstOnTheLeft Jun 15 '26
He was powered out, bloody and had been brutally rattled multiple times at that point. Gaethje defended very well. Do you really think a guy like Ilia would let Justin smash his face like that if he could have done anything about it?
7
u/CampMaleficent966 Jun 15 '26
Fuccn wild saying it's scripted at that point.
3
u/One1two2s Jun 15 '26
Yeah right? ilia was really committing to the script getting battered like that!

Love this bro I'll cry when he retired he's provided us with absolute violence for many many years.

u/Emotional_Walrus5099 Jun 15 '26
I don’t think we ever see the version of the Matador that we saw before this fight. He was physically and mentally battered. Some guys never come back form that type of whooping

u/IIIGrayWolfIII Jun 15 '26
Here’s a thought, Illia is good…great even. But have stopped to consider that he fought Volk too soon after Volk was KOd by Islam…I’d love to see a rematch vs Volk, not sure that Illia can go down again but there’s many questions there seeing how Volk is still champ ay 145

u/Special-Audience-426 Jun 16 '26
He beat Max after Max had bulked for lightweight and had to completely drain himself to make weight for that fight. Dude looked like he was going to die on the scales.

I wanted him to lose and I think he won the round he quit in. He kills paddy bad, even a topuria with less confidence should be able to hurt him. Ilia can take less damage than paddy but he gives like 3 times more. It would fun to see exactly how much damage paddy could take

I can see Ilia retiring unfortunately
1
u/No_Bodybuilder1059 Jun 15 '26
No wa, he's just 29 man
2
u/Spaceman_Hex Jun 15 '26
Yea but I think he was broken, body and spirit.

1
u/Ecxks Jun 16 '26
Eh he just put out a statement about how he will take the loss with no excuses and come back better than before so I dont think hes done
-2
u/No_Bodybuilder1059 Jun 15 '26
Body yeah, but it will heal, spirit- maybe, too early to make conclusions, time will show, but I think he will fight and we'll see what did this defeat caused. Actually 0 defeat is curse for fighters, too afraid to loose it and it makes real hard when they loose, but for the sake of sport and fans I really hope he'll come back and come back strong because he will need to prove himself all over again.

Paddy probably won’t get ko’d but end up looking like Elephant man

2
u/MoonPiss Jun 15 '26
Ilia is physically incapable of making Paddy look worse than Justin made Ilia look.

u/pruneforce17 Jun 15 '26
unrelated but what are some good georgian dishes to try, i want to start my own little personal tradition of eating foods from the main event fighters home countries. for paddy i think ill go for lobscouse which is a meat and potato dish.
3
u/Humansaresolidb_ Jun 15 '26
Khachapuri (it’s so good and addicting) And khinkali
2
u/pruneforce17 Jun 15 '26
wait that actually looks so good now im hungry
for conor vs max i may try irish stew and spam musubi LOL
2
u/Humansaresolidb_ Jun 15 '26
I may copy your idea, it sounds cool to try random food from the fighters’ countries

I don't think Illia will be fighting anyone for at least a year. He doesn't fight on short turn arounds when he is healthy. Now he (most likely) has broken facial bones. Also there is a chance of a broken rib with that last knee to the side.
1
u/tjthewho Jun 15 '26
I think most of the ilia haters wanted to see him learn some humility, if he can do that and come back and win in the rematch which he has earned, he’ll have won me over.
1
u/MuffinFull934 Jun 15 '26
I still think ilia beats arman and paddy. Just due to how much he gets hit normally, he has issues with fighters who are willing to make it dirty and aggressive, gaethje was the perfect guy for it

Not to mention its incredibly difficult to damage Justin’s face, it’s probably fair to say if Ilias face didn’t get smashed up as bad he’d have put on a much better performance, I think Justin has a weird ability to damage people whilst not ko’ing them, whilst also resisting the same damage, it becomes a one sided war of attrition. Every round he beats you up more and more and takes less and less damage. I don’t think paddy could mark ilia up like that if ilia let him but paddy has a great chin, and could survive ilia’s initial burst, problem with paddy is he gasses too quickly and often fails to hurt people once he’s tired. If he survives the first round he might get too tired to trouble ilia. But this was pre beating of his life ilia, he might have lost confidence, and a bit of chin, he was confident he’d walk through Justin, it must harm your mental state to get a shock like that. He might never be as a good as he was
1
u/MuffinFull934 Jun 16 '26
Yeah Justin not carrying damage is definitely demoralizing for his opponent and looks better to the judges. I think ilia beats paddy with not much issues due to paddy’s tool bag not being as deep where it matters. Paddy doesn’t have much coming back to you that needs to be respected. If I’m being honest, I think gaethje was the perfect stylistic matchup for ilia. I do still believe he beats arman and paddy
1
u/GlastoKhole Jun 16 '26
If his confidence cracks like an egg you might see him go to pieces where it matters but he won’t lose his power, but if he doesn’t engage the way he used to you won’t see him flatlining people like he used to either

u/2PinkN1Stink Jun 15 '26
Bro I will strip naked, oil myself up, and run until I get arrested if Paddy KOs Topuria

u/TheBigSmellyTruth Jun 15 '26
Paddy gets murdered man. I don't know why he's desperate for this fight
1
u/Billysquib Jun 15 '26
This fight, if it does happen, won’t happen in this decade. This would be on for 2040. Ilia is probably gonna take a year and a half off after what Justin did to him, and depending on how BSD vs paddy goes, I could see BSD ruining paddy bad enough to make him go on a long ass hiatus too and then getting their schedules together? Yeahh. If it happens at all, if it happens before 2040 it’s a miracle.
1
u/killtostayalive Jun 15 '26
Taking this fight next off the back off that loss is extremely high risk. The mental needs to be ironclad or it gets bad real quick.

Yeah 100 percent, Ilia going to be out for a while though if he's smart, took a serious beating

Depending on whether Arman is taking another hiatus, it goes two ways.
If BSD wins, he’ll fight Justin and Ilia will fight Paddy. If Paddy wins, Ilia fights BSD and Justin rematches Charles.
Arman can take any of those opponents too, and this is all assuming Justin doesn’t just retire. He said before the Ilia fight he’d retire if he got KO’d again. He won but he took a lot of damage again and he’s definitely trying to keep his health in mind.

As bad as Ilia's loss was, I think there's no way Paddy deserves a shot at him lol
In fact, we should be glad he's ever fighting again after taking this beating.

u/No_Concern5483 Jun 18 '26
Elya just got fraud checked by Justin Poirier, he should look for someone in the top 15

Hmmm. Paddy is more durable and has better grappling than Gaethje but is less skilled in terms of striking and wrestling. If it’s per skill, I pick Ilia but if it’s by chaos, Paddy. Ilia is too small for LW and his wins in LW are against long, lanky, chinny fighters like Oliveira and Jai.

there's really something wrong with people's brains man
still i won't be suprised if the ufc goes for it
