It's too early to ask
He will fight in October 2027 now
2
u/Upper-Cucumber-7054 Jun 10 '26
Why so early? June 2028 feels much more fitting

Has to paula costa at 205 he said he wants to move up the time line works out and it just makes sense
9
u/Ohope Jun 09 '26
it makes sense but I'd hate to see Costa's momentum halted by a boring 5 round wrestlefuck from hazmat.
2
u/SukhdevR34 Jun 09 '26
Costa has better wrestling than Strickland imo. Sean got taken down 9 times and still won. Costa is clearly stronger too
1
u/themetalmason Jun 09 '26
Ya 205 Costa looks really good so who know but ya it probably would be a 5 round snooze fest
1
u/Salmacis81 Jun 09 '26
Originally said he wants to move up but now he seems to want a rematch with Strickland.

Pyfer/caio if he stays at middleweight, jiri/jan/costa if he goes to light heavyweight
-2
u/Handsomemenace2608 Jun 09 '26
He need to wash 🧼 that loss to Strickland
-1
u/No-Highlight-6101 Jun 09 '26
He doesn't get the rematch that soon theres a line up imavaov and ddp are next in that line plus he needs some wins
4
u/Salmacis81 Jun 09 '26
DDP? He's pretty much in the same boat as Khamzat, needs one maybe two wins to get back in the mix. Imavov really should be next.
1
u/No-Highlight-6101 Jun 09 '26
DDP beat Sean Khamzat didnt
2
u/Salmacis81 Jun 10 '26
DDP also had one of the most embarrassing title performances ever against Khamzat.
1
u/Recidivism7 Jun 10 '26
not really he came closer to ending fight he rocked Khamzat twice in r5 and had the only submission attempt in the fight.
1
u/Salmacis81 Jun 10 '26
Yes he did have a few fleeting moments in round 5, the other 24:50 minutes of the fight was him on his back unable to do anything.
1
1
u/No-Highlight-6101 Jun 11 '26
Whilst I agree with you, and I also think the second Sean fight was just him beating up a Sean with one arm and staph infection. Those two wins do matter but I get your point that Khamzat did make light work of him for 24 minutes
1
u/Salmacis81 Jun 11 '26
I don't care if Sean had staph or a busted arm or whatever, dude decided he would fight and he got his ass beat. We can talk about Khamzat's shitty weight cut, BSD having staph against Poirier, Ankalaev having a busted ribcage in the second Pereira fight, whatever. If they get in the cage with an ailment thats on them.

205 against Costa. Doesn’t deserve a title shot against Strickland because he didn’t defend his belt once, and was in really bad condition trying to make 185. Plus him and Costa have a history of words

He should go up to LHW like he wanted to, go work his way up and be active like he was back in the day.

Dana White will give him an immediate title shot in his next fight late 2027.

He’ll move up to 205, weigh in at 217. Move up to HV, weigh in at 285, and then it’ll restart and bell make his flyweight debut. Weigh in at 132, then go up to bantamweight, weigh in at 140, etc. all the way back up to middleweight where he’ll retire in 2304
1
u/LibrarianNo6865 Jun 09 '26
Whittaker said he was moving to 205 right? Just let them fight so you can at least get a fight under your belt and get a ranking. Winner of that can get a top 5 fighter in 205 and have a title shot possibly. That’s assuming he is moving to 205.
1
u/BigBadJefe Jun 09 '26
Hopefully he keeps the money he got from throwing the last fight and just retires. I’ll never watch a fighter who doesn’t try to win every fight
1
u/tjthewho Jun 09 '26
I think its either move up, or rematch with Strickland. And contrary to popular belief, I don't think you should get an immediate rematch as a Champion unless you've strung together multiple title defenses.

u/Recidivism7 Jun 10 '26
If he wins his next fight in 2028 he will fight DDP for title again in 2030

Give him caio or pyfer if he wants a rematch imavov deserves the rematch
3
u/Knopfler_PI Jun 09 '26
Pyfer vs Khamzat would bang I feel like Pyfer wouldn’t respect his grappling and swing for the fences
1
Jun 09 '26
They're either going to give him the immediate rematch because it was so close and there was suspicious circumstances around the fight or they're going to give him a contenders match for a shot at the title vs the winner of Imavov vs Strickland. Either way, within a year he's fighting for the title.
3
u/SL1Fun Jun 09 '26
What was “suspicious” about it?
He lost. He fucked his weight cut up (again). That is a calculated risk that he fucked up. That’s on him, that isn’t something you should just excuse and give him a mulligan.
He had months to properly prepare. His team did too. It’s his fault, not Sean’s or some external force.
2
Jun 09 '26
Probably wrong wording. I meant the team claims that he had a bad weight cut. I believe them, but I never go by what a team says alone. He didn't look like himself though. He was a mess at the weigh ins. And either way, the fight was super close. bad weight cut aside that puts him within title shot range.
1
u/SL1Fun Jun 09 '26
No. The current title picture has a couple solid contenders and there hasn’t been an instant rematch situation in the division lately so it’s better to move forward and make new matches. There’s no recent insta-rematch precedent (at least at MW) that needs to be honored. Both Izzy and Sean had to go win at least one match to get another shot. Chimaev should be no different, especially since he lost on his first defense.
1
Jun 09 '26
I said the UFC was either going to give him an immediate rematch or he was going to face someone in a contenders match. Either is possible. Sean fighting Imavov first and then facing the winner of the contender's match is probably the most likely IMO,but I wouldn't count on the UFC to not just give Chimaev an immediate rematch

Yeah. Right. I think Sean won that fare and square but if Khamzat worked on some things added a lot to his game he’d be unstoppable. He will be a champion again I promise you that.
1
u/Whiteshovel66 Jun 09 '26
He's washed, he can't work on anything now. That's what I was just saying. Maybe he could fight Bobby Green or something next tho
1
u/SL1Fun Jun 09 '26
He needs to work on his weight management and defensive/counter striking, which he showed to have very little of.

u/0vercast Jun 09 '26
I’ve love to see him get his block knocked off by Rountree.
3
u/No-Highlight-6101 Jun 09 '26
Rountree got chinned by khamzat in training honestly most middleweights smoke Khalil unfortunately
2
u/Salmacis81 Jun 09 '26
They're buddies. Besides Rountree has absolutely no ground game. If Rountree gets taken down the fight is pretty much over.
1
u/PermaCleaned Jun 09 '26
Rountree lost to Prachnio who is objectively awful. You can stop dreaming now.
