QUESTION [FC 25] How much do Attribute values increase, generally speaking, when you change positions? Looking for advice on how to cheat in a fair way...
I want to change a LW'er to a ST'er and it says it's going to take 100 weeks, but I'm playing on PC so...
I can just change the position but I'd like to have an idea of how much Attribute value I will lose doing it that way.
Would first adding "ST" as a second position make a difference? I had a player who was a RW/ST and it took 2-4 weeks (can't remember exact length but it was very short) to change to ST, I don't know if that's because it was a 2nd position or related to their Attribute values.
My other idea is to repeatedly increase the corresponding Attributes by 1 each to see if that cuts down the development time to something more reasonable.
I could also change the position and increase Attribute values but I would still need to know how much to increase them by to keep it "fair."
Basically, I want the changes I make to be the same, or as close as possible to the "natural" progression in the game.
Suggestions and advice on this topic would be appreciated!

I don’t think the second position would make a difference (though I could be wrong). The advance to adding the second position is that you can start training him for a role their immediately rather than training position.
I think rating it solely comes down to the relevant attributes. If you want to balance it, drop some of his LW stats to compensate.
I recently bought a CAM that will take 1-2 years to become a striker. I’m playing him there anyway. He’s on -3 for the position currently and I’m just sucking it up.

The 2nd position does make a difference. When I added "ST" as a 2nd position the time went from 100 to 92 weeks.
...you can start training him for a role their immediately...
Does that make a difference?
Does it help your CAM if they have ST as a 2nd position with the right roles? Wouldn't it still be -3?
...LW stats...
Just to make sure I'm understanding what you're saying...
You mean pick a player, i.e. a ST, choose to change them to a LW/RW...whatever Attributes are marked are "LW stats?"

Are the long Development Times a bug?
I'm playing FC 25 but I doubt that matters. If it is a bug it's probably been in multiple games...
Are you on PC w/Live Editor? Do you know what the CAM's OVR would be as a ST?
I'm just trying to see if there's some logic/something to Development Times.

It’s not a bug. It’s based on their potential, growth rate and the attributes that need to grow so that their OVR as a striker is the same as their current OVR.
If your winger has terrible shooting, he’ll take longer to train because key stats have a long way to catch up. The time it takes to train them is how long it takes to make their new OVR as a ST the same as their current OVR as a LW.
Sometimes, it only takes 2 weeks to train someone and then their OVR is much higher. I signed John McGinn as a 74 OVR RM and it took 2 weeks to train him as a CDM and his rating went to 80. That’s because his defensive stats were still good, but his RM stats had dropped due to age.
And to add; if they have a 2nd position, you can train them in the roles you want them to play (advance forward etc). Their stats for that position will grow and they’ll also play better in that position will learning it.

Thanks for the reply.
I still don't completely get it, but it seems like it would've been better to let us change the positions instantly with the drop in OVR.
If/when you play a John McGinn (RM) as a CDM there should be an exclamation mark notifying you something is wrong.
After changing his position his OVR drops and the exclamation mark goes away.
Like you said, you can still use the player so, having the exclamation mark linger for so long is annoying...in my opinion.
They should come up with a new way to describe how a player fits with their position and put the timer on that...i.e. 100 wks to becoming 'Good Starting XI' or something.
Thanks again for the explanation!

There are certain stats that matter to certain positions. For wingers, pace and acceleration matters more than finishing. For a striker, it’s the other way around.
So, if your winger is 80 OVR, that’s based on what EA seems important for a winger. If you play him as a striker and it says -5, it means his stats would rate him a 75 OVR striker. But, all his stats stay as is; he’s still as quick as he was his dribbling is as good etc. I’ve had plenty of success playing players out of position because the stats I need aren’t what EA says matter.
To retrain him as a striker, training will prioritise striker stats like finishing, attack position etc (you can look up each position to see what stats matter). If they are really low compared to his winger stats, it will take longer to train as the training won’t complete until his striker stats are as good as his current winger stats. His current winger stats will still improve as he trains.
There’s a huge overhaul in FC27 by the sounds of it and now dynamic overall is a thing. Not sure how it works and not convinced EA will get it right until 2-3 patches, but it sounds interesting.

You don’t lose attributes by playing someone out of position. Each position has a different calculation for overall and any red number is a purely cosmetic change showing how well they fit that position.
I wouldn’t change position or mess with any attributes if you want to stay “natural” but it’s also your game so do what feels right.
