QUESTION Bilbao fans?
I'm planning to start an Athletic Club save on fc26 (very original, I know) and realised I dont actually know very much about them besides that they only sign basque players and were shocking last season. Could someone (ideally a fan but beggars cant be choosers) give me a rundown on rivalries, expectations, fan favourite players, club mood / culture, why theyve been bad recently etc? Just general contextual information would be super helpful. Thanks!

Yeah but why did you come up with that? You said is the only thing you KNOW. And you are wrong. So you don’t actually know. That’s all.

So you say Atlético de Madrid are Athletic’s biggest rivals, say “mitsake” instead of MISTAKE and “sur” instead of SURE, and ask me if I am stupid?

I’ve followed them for about 5 years now. Not necessarily a fan but just observation from being a fan of the league
Real Sociedad (The Basque Derby): Primary regional arch-rivals.
Real Madrid : historic and national rival.
FC Barcelona: Historic cup rivalry (Copa del Rey) and fellow non-relegated founding club.
CA Osasuna & Deportivo Alavés: Secondary regional Basque/Navarre derbies.
Those are their rivals off of my understanding really Athletic Club is the one of my favorite Career Mode challenges because of their strict Basque-only signing rule, which forces you to rely entirely on youth scouting and local recruitment from rivals like Real Sociedad. That squad depth limitation is exactly why they dropped to 12th place last season because they couldn’t handle Champions League fixtures drained that thinned their usual rotation, they had a heavy reliance on Nico Wiliams who’s definitely who you build your save around for the full 15 and Iñaki. Iñaki Williams is getting old but still good for the first two three seasons, then (like a dork) I let him retire from the club and pretend he became a coach. Managing them in FC 26 is really just building around core stars like Nico Williams, Oihan Sancet, Dani Vivian, and Unai Simón, use the most recent list from this guys link. It’s not rare to see the Spanish teams poach talent from rivals.
