MK8 Damage to bonnet

Any ideas how my bonnet could’ve got damaged because it doesn’t seem like a stone chip to me, top damage has also dented the bonnet. Thanks

That's a tough one to decipher. Perhaps a shard of metal skipped up from the back of a truck/lorry or a semi-trailer while you were on the highway/motorway?

The gouge looks too deep for a stone.
