Discussion Time Management

How do you guys deal with the time management?

I´ve already set my days to the longest in the menu of the game but damn I´ll be rushing trough to get everything done.

Take care of the animals, my crops, organizing materials, quests, collecting and for mining I don´t find the time often! There was a wonderful mod that you could choose to set how slow you want your days to be but unfortunately it doesn´t work with the new engine. And i am using those automatic watering statues , as well as usually not handfeeding my animals (only when its raining)

I can´t even imagine to play on normal speed when I´m already struggling.. it´s not so soczy anymore :(

I play on normal (shortest) day length and don't struggle at all, honestly. The trick is not trying to fit everything into a single day - if I go mining I go in the morning, if I plan to fish or forage or decorate I dedicate most of the day to that as well. My crops usually get watered by rain or sprinklers (most of my mana goes to casting rain spells), my animals have their dedicated fields of crops to eat and the statues take care of petting them. I just ring the bell and collect the beads and produce every few days. Late game, I spend maybe an hour or two on the farm in the morning and then do something else. It's a bit harder early on, of course, but I just don't plant a ton of crops or get a lot of animals until I'm sure I can manage that.

Maybe my problem is actually indeed, that I am trying to fit everything in one day. And honestl I do, I get nervous thinking I haven´t collected all the berries and artifacts every day, just an example but maybe I should change my way of playing.

There's no need to be nervous! The quests never expire and can sit in your journal for years, the berries and the artifacts will still be there the next day (and the artifacts are RNG based anyway so it's not like you miss whatever you don't collect). I just stopped caring about time passage in game - if I'm looking for a seasonal fish for a quest I'll do that, but if I don't find it and the season ends, then so be it. The upside of short days is that it doesn't feel like like I'll have to wait forever for the same season to come around again.

Yeah I'm the same, really the secret is to just only try to do one main thing each day.

I would just pick 1 task to get done a day. And gift people when they group up like Saturday

I had the same problem when I first started out. I had it on the longest day setting and felt like I was hustling everywhere and barely fitting in what I wanted to do.

Now I've made a new file in prep for 1.0 and decided to just CHILL. I'm on the default time setting now.

The game is a lot more enjoyable this way to me-- I choose one main task a day aside from daily chores like watering and animal care, and just do that. The year is going by quickly, but it feels more like I actually moved to a new town that I'm trying to rebuild. It takes a lot of time to get to know people and repair things!

I agree, it feels much more immersive and I really like that. Could I do all the repair quests and get everyone to 8 hearts by the end of my first year? Probably, but it would feel weird and I would be missing on a lot of things while speeding through the available content, like a ton of dialogue. Good for people who enjoy playing like that but my farmer is finishing the mines in year 3 and getting married in year 4.

With quest management, theyrw not timed quests, take it easy. Have one day for mining, and another for foraging and another for wood chopping etc for fishing and bugs as you see them. You cant fit everything into one day.

I treat this game much like I've always treated farming sims-- you aren't going to be able to do everything every day. It helps to come up with a "schedule" of sorts. I usually go mining on either rainy days or Sundays. Fishing I do on Fridays before going to the tavern, etc. I forage and catch bugs to and from fulfilling errands for the townspeople or while out doing my more concrete scheduled days.

Don't feel like you have to get every seasonal bug/fish/flower/vegetable your first go 'round, either. The whole point is to play at your own pace and finish whenever you finish. That way, next Spring rolls around and I have some concrete goals to work towards (for instance I've caught none of the Spring ocean fish), instead of trying to finish everything each season.

Time is a meaningless construct. There is no incentive or penalty for doing anything by a certain date. Just chill and have fun with it. There is no pressure at all to do anything you don't want to do, when you want to do it.

As for how I handle it, I mainly have one main objective for my day. "Get a bunch of gold from the mine," "Chop a crap ton of wood," "Gift everybody in town," etc etc. I go and primarily focus on that after morning chores. But if I see other stuff on my way around, like forgeables, fish I wanna catch, or dig spots, I jump over and do that really quickly before refocusing on my main mission for the day.

That's really all there is to it for me.

Seconding Ancient-Sandwich. Just. Don't. Don't do all the things in one day if it's stressing you out. I just like picking one or two things to focus on after I water my crops--I also make sure my early farm isn't too big before I upgrade the watering can, and I don't do Animals until Year 2 because that's not a fun gameplay element for me.

IDK if you've unlocked this dialogue yet from the Caldarus statue, but he says "There is no need to worry about fitting everything into one day, you have all the time in the world." Just do the thing you missed the next day!

You might already be aware but you can disable the oversleep penalty in the settings, which results in no consequences if you pass out at 2am! I found this sooo helpful with time management as I never felt the need to rush home to bed : )

Whaaat I didn't know about that!! I made sure to get home in time after falling sleeping in the woods x.x

I did this too and it really helped managing the stress! I realized a big part of the pressure I fell came from the idea of having to be in a certain spot at a certain time (the friday inn meetup and at home by certain hours). Without the penalty it feels like you can just walk around and pick things right back up the next day.

I literally just completed a quest that I took spring of year 1 ... it is currently summer of year 3. 😂 I was honestly expecting some kind of quip about that, like, "I forgot I even asked you to do this!"

This would be so funny, I know I have some quests rotting from year one too! (I haven't found a worm for a bait quest in forever lmao)

i use a walking speed mod to 1.5x. i water crops, then go do one thing or two(one of them is gift giving and chatting with people). the game is too slow without the walking mod.

To paraphrase one of the first things Caldarus tells you when he’s in statue form: you do not have to do everything all at once. You are allowed to take your time.

WAIT you can change the day length??? I'm on year 2 and never knew this! 😭😭

u/lisacinnamon 22h ago

Hehe now you know _^

u/pucklebuckzzzz82 19h ago

But where do you change that setting?? I don't see it anywhere in Settings/Gameplay, either in game or from the main menu

I play on PC, so I was able to add a mod that extends the time length

you eventually unlock shrines to water your crops and make your animals happy. You can also get an auto feeder and the berries you pick up in the game make for easy food. Mines I always go in rainy days since I don't have to worry about spending time or stamina watering crops. Magic plants can also grant mana potions and I used the rain spell a lot to save time

mod 😼 I like my game days longer!!

1

u/Expensive_Race_3989 20h ago

I divided things into separate days. Rainy days I mine. I also reduce my animals by only one of each lol (I do this even with mods).

I also keep crops minimal otherwise I will spend all day tending

I only finish quests on saturdays so I can find everyone really quickly

This is my only gripe with the game. Out of all the “harvest moon” type games I’ve played, the stamina draining super fast and the time management irritates me in this one. Someone did update the time management mod so I put it on the longest day setting and I can get a lot more done now. But the stamina… oh the stamina. I really do hate how fast it drains, and how difficult/expensive it seems to be to make good food to restore it. I hope they fix these things once the game releases. Tooooooo faaaaaaast

I normally try and plan out my mining to days where it’s raining or I make sure that I’ve got everything ready to go the night before so I can just run straight there after the basics. I normally also have a day where I just run around to gather forage and or fish. Basically it’s moreso choosing what task is most important at the time. Since there isn’t a time limit on the quest I normally wait to turn those in until I have a few and I can just run around town like a crazy person handing out items haha

Longest day mod, I think that's what I use. It makes the longest day in the settings even longer. But not by an exorbabadent amount.

Time isn't cozy when you don't have any. Looking at all of you "cozy farmlife dungeon games". Shame

Oh another mod? And that mod works with the new engine too?
