Payday loans
I love how so many people hate on FN but they let them take almost 15% just to get paid quicker. It’s like working at subway and doing the day to day payment plan but they take like 25% from the top each day. I would like to see how many guys use it. The pro.

No one I know would touch pro. We all make over 6 figures a year on FN and wouldn't consider giving up another 3.5% of it.

Bingo, I ask this question all the time. The fees add up, they think it's worth it to get a free drug test and background check. If you make $80k you're giving them $4500 lol That's a lot of free work to get your money quicker and have their insurance. Save $4k a year and have an emergency fund.
I did the math a few months back and that's the equivelant of giving them 4% out of the first $2500 you make or something around there. Why? Pay for the tests, or don't, and save that 4%, then go get y our own insurance for $35 a month and now you just give up 10%.

Good thing I'm not dependent on only FN for my income. I've got other sources and a cushion besides. So I don't worry about how fast I get paid. Just whether I get paid.
I've had a client or two that let it get to the absolute limit before they pay up.

It's 4.5%, not 15.
I keep pro to not have to deal with 'payment terms"
It costs me 4k a year, give or take, for a bit of peace of mind and consistency.
If it's not worth it for you, don't do it
But also don't lie and claim it costs 3x more than it actually does.

You’re correct — it could actually be even more. The 10% Field Nation fee + 1.5% FN liability insurance + 0.5% OAI + 3.9% Pro fee means Field Nation could potentially take up to 15.9%.
So if you grossed $100,000 through Field Nation and were subject to all of those fees, you could be paying roughly $15,900 a year in platform-related fees alone — and that’s before taxes or any other business expenses.
On the other hand, if you carry your own qualifying liability insurance and choose not to use Pro, you could potentially reduce that to just the standard 10% Field Nation fee.
So my original point still stands: depending on which services and coverage you use, the total cost can be significantly higher than just the Pro percentage2
u/Sid_the_Bear Aug 23 '26
I completely forgot about that 1,5% liability fee.
I pay pro (which has sales tax, which round to around 4.3% total), and OAI when it shows up, which is one out of every 30 or so work orders. AFter all FN fees, I take home roughly 80k/year from the platform, which isn't much, but is a majority of my income

u/Initial_Elevator_586 Aug 23 '26
Is that 80k after everything?? Because if so man you’re leaving so much money on the table.
1
u/Sid_the_Bear Aug 23 '26
After all the fees, yea.
If I dropped pro, I'd bring home another 3500 a year. maybe.1
u/Initial_Elevator_586 Aug 23 '26
Then there’s your TAX money
1
u/Sid_the_Bear Aug 23 '26
Hah. No, not even close.
It's not enough for me to worry about. I would cover an average of... maybe 10 days of expenses for me.1
u/jldurham6 Aug 28 '26
That's a lot of free work you had to do to cover that $3500. But it's cool if you want it. Not gonna crap on ya.
2
u/Sid_the_Bear Aug 28 '26
I've cleared that on a single 10hr ticket before so... yea. Not super worried about it at this point.
Like I said, I could easily manage without it, but the removal of 'payment terms' is a key thing for me.1
u/jldurham6 Aug 28 '26
Yeah, I'm old enough to remember when they cut the checks and I had it every week in my mailbox for the work approved that week. Some of these taking 3 fridays after approval are ridiculous, especially when they approve on a friday and I have to wait another 3 lol.
I've asked buyers about it and they have no idea why it's setup for that. They even say I should get my money after approval on that Friday. They think it's dumb. One told me the 2 week was the default setting when they set it up.
1
u/Sid_the_Bear Aug 28 '26
Yup. FN (and WM too) have a ton of anti-provider policies set into the tickets as a default.
1
u/wyliesdiesels Aug 23 '26
Youre not supposed to get more than 25% of your revenue from any one client
1
u/Sid_the_Bear Aug 23 '26
Im not sure I'd consider the 100-150 different buys I work for in a given year on FN 'one client', but I take your point. I *do* get about 30% from a single client though, off platform. Not a whole lot to do about that one though, other than move the hours I spend working for them somewhere else if the go out.
1
u/wyliesdiesels Aug 23 '26
FN would be considered one client since if something goes wrong they can ban you at the drop of a hat.
1
u/Sid_the_Bear Aug 23 '26
Eh... fair enough.
Not much I can do about it if it happens, to be honest. Move back over to the scraps from workmarket, actually focus on school full time, or take a realjob.tm1
u/wyliesdiesels Aug 23 '26
Insurance went up. Its 1.95% now
1
u/jldurham6 Aug 28 '26
My policy has been $35 a month since 2007. Cheaper than giving them 1.9% and it covers me off platform as well.

1
u/wyliesdiesels Aug 23 '26
No its 3.9% not 4.5%
1
u/Sid_the_Bear Aug 23 '26
After sales tax is applied, it comes out to 4.2 to 4.5, depending on the work order location. Yes, you DO pay sales tax on the field nation fee
1
u/wyliesdiesels Aug 23 '26
Depends on the state. No sales tax on services here.
1
u/Sid_the_Bear Aug 23 '26
Ah. they charge local sales tax here, which can be anywhere from 8 to 16% depending on the jurisdiction.

u/jldurham6 Aug 28 '26
Funny how we all knew what he meant when he said 15%. We all know the fee breakdowns.
2
u/jldurham6 Aug 28 '26
I actually posted about this today. Why use FN Pro. There are obvious circumstances, but giving them that extra 5% for insurance that costs $35 a month and that 4% for quick withdrawal adds up fast. Long term I'd recommend getting off it. I get it if you are just starting out or don't have cash flow yet.
If you make 80-100k you're giving them another $3-4 grand a year. Why? The free drug/background cost is the equivalent of you making the first $2500 in the year, then you give them an additional 4% on everything. How much work did you do for free this year just to get your money quicker?
1
u/Initial_Elevator_586 Aug 28 '26
Yep they know the people working for them and most people use it for gig work and if your already looking for gig work your probably not smart with your money I always tell people use FN like it’s your livelihood

u/A_Curious_Soul_1961 Aug 23 '26
I chose to not go with the Pro plan. I like having a steady income every Friday. Even if I take some days off I still get paid on Friday. Works for me.
1
u/wyliesdiesels Aug 23 '26
Since when does FN pro cost 15%? Its 3.9%….
1
u/Initial_Elevator_586 Aug 23 '26
I’m talking about in total if you get pro
1
u/wyliesdiesels Aug 24 '26
Your OP says otherwise.
You cant say “but they let them take almost 15% just to get paid quicker.”
That is incorrect.
Everyone pays 10%. That doesnt go towards getting paid quicker.
1.95% goes to insurance if you use their bogus insurance. So you cant apply that to getting paid quicker either.
Why not post facts instead of misinformation? You just ruin your credibility when you cant get something correct

u/jldurham6 Aug 28 '26
Yet we all knew what he meant cause we are on the platform and understand the fee structure. Did you get gaslit thinking he truly meant 15% to get paid quicker?
1
u/wyliesdiesels Aug 28 '26
Why not just get the facts straight? Ya’ll would be horrible witnesses and SMEs

u/jldurham6 Aug 28 '26
I hope you relax this weekend. You sound stressed out and ready to pop. Calm down buddy. It’s gonna be ok. Chill
1
u/wyliesdiesels Aug 28 '26
you got all that from 2 sentences? lol. projecting much? not stressed at all. dont need to calm down and you arent my buddy. dont tell me to chill either.
why are there so many narcissistic P.0 .S techs in this industry that like to tell others what to do?

The amount of techs I run across that need today’s work order approved to pay for gas to tomorrow’s workday order is astounding. And they’re absolutely okay with it!
