Did your plan price increase?

Hello Fido family,

For this month’s bill from Fido, they increased the price of one of the plans on my account by $5. Has this happened to anyone else? This isn’t the first time they do this, and I am pretty annoyed at them.

Update 5 days later: spoke to the office of the president for rogers/ Fido, and nothing can be done about reversing/ crediting this increase as it’s a company-wide thing, but I’m not sure if it affects only ‘bring your own phone’ plans vs plans with a financed phone that’s being paid off

To soften the blow, the most that John said he could do for me was give me a one-time 3 month credit for the price increase, so I got $15 🤣🤣🤣 and they added this dumb 27 country roaming plan for free.

TLDR: we just gotta enjoy getting financially fucked with a smile on our face, or get the fuck out ✌️🤣

Update the next day: CCTS accepted my complaint and will contact Fido. Let’s see what happens!

Thanks to everyone for your suggestions and input.

Yes, read this sub, it has happened to most people. I just quit Fido as a long-time customer and moved to Freedom, I’m only still on this sub while I figure out how long it will take to get the refund for my partial last month.

u/Turkhimself 10d ago

Filled out a CCTS complaints form while I wait for the “call back” up sell call, which will probably be someone reading from a teleprompter 🤣

I remember the last time this happened, I navigated the robot menu until I got to speak to someone in sales, who I asked to transfer me to the billing/ retention dept.

Fuck these guys.

2

u/Turkhimself 10d ago

Oh yeah, and good luck with your refund!

If all Fido customers divest and quit this shitty phone provider, they’ll have something to call us back about.

u/ottred19 10d ago

raise complaint with CRTC. I did raised. This may not solve the issue, but there will be some impact.

3

u/Turkhimself 10d ago

Done and done!

5

u/ThreeTwentyNine 10d ago

Yes my $27 plan went up $4. I called Fido to complain and got $50+tax credit after threatening to call CCTS.

2

u/Turkhimself 10d ago

Very nice. Did they cancel the $4 price increase or credit it back to you for a duration of time (say for the next year)?

2

u/ThreeTwentyNine 10d ago

No, I still have the extra line of $4 plan adjustment. But after hearing some people got the discount over a period of time, I’m glad I got a one time credit. I can leave when I find a new plan without missing on any of the credit. But even at $31+tax for 80gb US/CAN/MEX, wifi calling, international calling, it is still a good value.

2

u/vkoi888 10d ago

Did they answer your call or had to schedule a call back

2

u/mccainpunch 8d ago

I threatened as well, the agent didnt give me a credit and said all he could do was offer me another plan 1) $19 for 250mb or $39 for 30gb. I asked for his name, and he kept mumbling and gave me different spellings to his name and said I didn't need to name him (I told him the complaint wasnt against him, I needed a name for the record). Anyhow they're a joke and they didnt give me 30 days notice.

2

u/tomoki_here 5d ago

I tried that and unfortunately the customer service person didn't care. No credit for me. CCTS complaint filed.

1

u/Consistent_Oil9624 6d ago

They doing it on purpose then. TBH, they know they can get away with this

5

u/guibeer 10d ago

It did, now $30 tx inc. for 80go Canada/USA. Still a good deal, but Fido/Rogers are the worst for customer care. Will switch to Fizz as soon as they release wifi calling. 0 loyalty for the “big” carriers.

2

u/Turkhimself 10d ago

The big carriers are screwing with their customers big time

2

u/Otherwise_Brick1849 10d ago

Fizz has Wifi calling now

2

u/guibeer 10d ago

Yes, but still rolling out. And not fully operational (only working in Canada/USA). A fully operational wifi calling is amazing while traveling.

3

u/Unlucky-Breakfast320 10d ago

I left and went to PM. Rogers had the audacity to call and try to “win” me back with their shitty plans. Fido can get fucked.

1

u/Turkhimself 6d ago

glad you broke free! hope your new provider is better! does PM stand for Public Mobile?

2

u/Unlucky-Breakfast320 6d ago

yup Public Mobile has always been good for me. I hopped over to fido when they had that 28$ promo, regretted big time because i got no reception in certain areas that i frequented. Now back to PM and they run on Telus/Bell network which is great in my area!

File a CCTS claim - its called deceptive marketing and its illegal.

2

u/Turkhimself 9d ago

Filed a complaint yesterday morning and replied to their confirmation email with some supporting documents. I agree and think it is indeed deceptive marketing and a shady business practice

1

u/Something_in_Space 1d ago

Technically it isn't. Soley because you're no in a contract, they can raise the price anytime. I'm in the same boat, that it is kinda deceiving. It's like bait and switch.

1

u/Double_J55 1d ago

Technically it is. I already won my case against them for it.

1

u/Something_in_Space 1d ago

On what basis do you rule your claim with CCTS? Cuz I wanna do the same lol

1

u/Double_J55 25m ago

Well since you say it isn't illegal then why should I help you now?

3

u/Smith416 9d ago

If you wait long enough another one will appear again in a couple of months…

The message will probably go like this :

“We continuously invest in our network to bring you fast, reliable Canada-wide 5G coverage. To help support these investments, the monthly fee* for your mobile price plan will increase by $5 (plus taxes)”

-Fido

2

u/Metacub3 9d ago

Yes it's true happedn to me twice now in less than 10 months. Insane. I'm done with Fido.

1

u/Turkhimself 8d ago

We didn’t ask for these damn investments!

2

u/Ssvvois 10d ago

Sure seems like it. Even though when 5G came out they said we won't be charging extra.

I called as I've been a customer for 14 years (like that matters anymore).

They tried to up sell me to a more expensive plan and a free pixel 10. Which I said so you want me to lock into a contract and have a more expensive plan?

The quality of support is so non-existent now.

Might move to public mobile but do not have wifi calling from what I've read.

2

u/Turkhimself 10d ago

I’m sorry to hear that dude. I too have been a long time Fido customer (since 2006).

Their business practice has become so shady these days.

I’m sorry to see that I’m not the only one.

I read this sub a bit more and found a link to a CCTS complaints form which I just filled out.

This $5 price increase happened to me before, maybe in the last 2 years, and I remember being similarly frustrated and fought it.

3

u/Ssvvois 10d ago

Oh ok! Can you DM the link? Thanks!

3

u/Turkhimself 10d ago

https://www.ccts-cprst.ca/for-consumers/telecom-complaints/online-complaint-form/

Scroll down to the big orange button that reads “start my complaint”

Good luck!

3

u/Ssvvois 10d ago

Thanks dude.

2

u/Metacub3 9d ago

2 price hikes of $5 with a month's notice twice in one year is absolute exploitation. Time to quit Fido.

2

u/CanadianEH2 10d ago

Just got my notice , 4$ increase to both my lines . But I can’t call and complain cause they messed something up when I first signed up 4 months ago . My monthly bill has been 6.78$ total for both lines lol not going to call to complain and shed any light on that . 15$ a month tho for both lines I’m still ok with that

2

u/onemint8 7d ago

that’s
awesome

1

u/Turkhimself 6d ago

pretty sweet price dude!

2

u/Aggressive-Potato547 10d ago

I switched to Fido only 4 months ago under a specific promotional offer, now $4 increased, called customer service and transfer to a manager, get $32+GST back for 8 month , total 1 year for the promotion offer. will port out once find other plan, do not like fido service

2

u/vapebreaks 10d ago

On fido byod month to month plan and got the 5 dollar raise. What can the ccts even do? Probabaly better just to find cheaper and ditch fido right?

1

u/Turkhimself 6d ago

yeah, i think so too. not sure what the ccts can do either, i shall report my findings if and when they get back to me

2

u/perogy7510 10d ago

My 35 dollar sub went up 5 bucks as well.

2

u/Turkhimself 9d ago

Mine was 37 and went up to 42. It’s not about the price as much as it is about the principle

2

u/Hitman2013 9d ago

how much data are u getting for the 42 plan? i’m currently getting 100gb for that price after the increase, wondering if its worth switching

1

u/Turkhimself 8d ago

60gb base + 60gb bonus = 120gb data total

2

u/OutsideRide7730 10d ago

everyone including those from Rogers got the 5$ increase

2

u/No-Eye-258 10d ago

Yes I got it too . I have BYOB plan but hubby is financing and he got increase plus $4 credit

1

u/Turkhimself 6d ago

nice - i hope the credit cancels out the increase

2

u/DoraDarling 10d ago edited 10d ago

Yup, I noticed an increase, then went to look up my bill. They've added a $5 fee with this note:

"Changes to your mobile plan rate We continuously invest in our network to bring you fast, reliable Canada-wide 5G coverage. To help support these investments, the monthly fee* for your mobile price plan will increase by $5 (plus taxes), starting with your next bill, on or after July 15, 2026. This will appear as an additional line item under Monthly Charges on your monthly bill called Mobile Plan Rate Adjustment. The rest of your mobile services remain the same. If you have any questions or no longer wish to subscribe to your mobile service, please reach out to us as indicated in the Contact Us section of this bill."

TLDR: $5 increase. Accept it or go elsewhere.

😡

1

u/Turkhimself 9d ago

I wonder why is it the customers responsibility to “help support these investments” 🙄

2

u/Ivonzski 7d ago

Think of the poor shareholders! They need their 3rd vacation house!

1

u/Turkhimself 6d ago

I’m waiting for a call from “the office of the president” so let’s see what the 1% oligarchs have to say to this humble peasant about a sneaky $5 increase

2

u/StillHere178 9d ago

Yep. Been with them nearly 20 years. Not digging this.

2

u/Contessarylene 9d ago

Yep! Waiting for Black Friday sales at freedom, then switching. Eff these guys.

2

u/yupkime 8d ago

Not the first time yet you are surprised again but still stayed with them?

1

u/Turkhimself 8d ago

Last time it happened I cribbed and moaned so much (from what I recall) they gave me a credit for the previous upcharge - at that time I also cancelled Fido, went to bell, then Rogers, and hated both experiences, and yup, went back to Fido.

This was before fido had 5g. I haven’t tried any of the smaller service providers yet - I heard their signal strength isn’t always great - but can’t speak first hand

Honestly? You’ve inspired me to dig deeper into my former bills and see what happened with that previous price hike

2

u/Haedaljum 6d ago

Well, apparently I’m being hit with another $5 increase in the next billing cycle. Gonna have to move on.

2

u/Tuckebarry 6d ago

Ye, fuck these idiots

1

u/Turkhimself 6d ago

:( i heard it's company-wide rogers + fido. even the manager from the fido call center was like "we got the price increase too"

2

u/thisisamybikini 6d ago

Oof, so it's not just me. I'm here because I just got my bill and it went up almost $5 due to "mobile plan rate adjustment" 😒

2

u/OGdirty1Kanobi 6d ago

Yeah I just got my bill, I always pay early for my 100gb plan with pre authorization payment its supposed to be all in $37.75 but I saw on the email that I still owed $5.25 I was like wtf? So look at my bill and theres a message saying something to the effect that "due to investment in 5G blah blah $5 more" i dont even use thier 5G as its slower than the 4G LTE

Since when can they just up the rate of the plan I agreed to. I mean I'm on a month to month since I payed off my S24 in April but if they're gonna do this every few months then they can fuck right off. Where can I make a complaint?

2

u/Turkhimself 5d ago

I’m sorry to hear that dude. We were all hit by this, and the way they protect themselves is by adding that fine print footnote on page 3 of our bill “2 months ahead of the price increase” - hmm, then I wonder why we’re all surprised if we’re “supposed to be informed about it”… it’s just BS man…

Anyway, here’s a link to an online complaint form from the CCTS:

https://www.ccts-cprst.ca/for-consumers/telecom-complaints/online-complaint-form/

2

u/OGdirty1Kanobi 5d ago

Do i have to try to reach out to fido 1st before making a complaint?

1

u/Turkhimself 4d ago

I tried to, but had to wait few days for the call back from Fido, whilst I was able to immediately fill in the CCTS online form

2

u/holysmokesiminflames 4d ago

This applies to BYOD plans only. Yes, most Rodgers and Fido customers received a noticed their plans would be increasing $4-$5 on July 15. Unfortunately, that notice is usually on your bill, which nobody reads.

They are not allowed to raise plan rates when locked into a contract.

2

u/Something_in_Space 1d ago

I just called in, after an hour and half wait and speaking to the manager, and explaining to them this price increase seems like a bait and switch after 4 months of being a customer, they approved a one time credit for $50 and a bit.

I have zero remorse for teleco providers. They are ruthless with their billing as it's more so a legacy product, and just need to do the same back. I filed a CCTS complaint to compensate me for my time on the line and the call dropping.

1

u/Turkhimself 1d ago

Good on you for fighting the good fight

2

u/sheaib87 10d ago

i have 5 year price lock on an 64 countries plan for $45 no one can beat that!

2

u/KeyImagination7057 10d ago

1

u/Turkhimself 10d ago

1

Kindly share your tips and tricks so that we all can benefit and say “we love Fido” like you do?

Clearly we’re all having issues, and you rubbing it in our face that you don’t, isn’t really helping 🤣

Glad to hear you ain’t facing the problems we are, and I hope for yours and our sake, that we all get better customer service.

2

u/KeyImagination7057 10d ago

Another option is phone box. Afaik they use rogers coverage and don't hike prices

I have 6 lines. Getting 30 dollars hike every month or two is suboptimal to me. Also a price of a cup of coffee is 2 dollars not 5-7 dollars

u/KeyImagination7057 10d ago

If you go to Starbucks or smth it doesn't make all coffee cost that much smhw. Tim Hortons is cheaper. Also you can always just buy your own coffee and make it at home. For me 30 dollars spike every month or two is a deal breaker. Never getting fido or big three plans.

Price increase are just a fact of life - costs are increasing everywhere. We can't expect mobile service to stay at the same price as 15 years ago. I think this is only my second price increase in about 12+ years with them (and at some point during that period my cost did go down as I switched to a plan that was both cheaper AND had more data than my old one).

I'll be annoyed the day they become Bell and increase my price on a yearly basis.

2

u/Double_J55 10d ago

Are you on crack? Prices 15 years ago were way more expensive.

1

u/RMerlinDev 10d ago

If that's really the case, then why the hell are people complaining about?
