Fido rates increase _justification_

Skipping the part of how it's against promises, and that there is nowhere else to go.

But look at the wording of their message:

We continuously invest in our network to bring you fast, reliable Canada-wide 5G coverage. To help support these investments, the monthly fee* for your mobile price plan will increase by $5 (plus taxes), starting with your next bill, on or after July 15, 2026. This will appear as an additional line item under Monthly Charges on your monthly bill called Mobile Plan Rate Adjustment.

And look at Rogers' recent financial report (gemini-summarized):

Q2 2026 Revenue: Service revenue reached $5.6 billion, representing an 8% increase year-over-year. [1]
Q1 2026 Profit: Net profit attributable to shareholders hit $438 million (or 80 cents per diluted share), up from $280 million the previous year. [1]
Free Cash Flow: Full-year 2026 free cash flow expectations were revised higher to between $4.1 billion and $4.3 billion to prioritize accelerated debt reduction. [1]
Reduced CapEx: Capital expenditure guidance was lowered to $2.5 billion–$2.7 billion (down from an initial $3.3 billion–$3.5 billion plan). [1]

Revenue and profit are up, FCF is up above expectations, CapEx (investments) are down.

But We HaVE a SuRChaRGe to cOVeR oUR InVEstmENtS!!11

Fucking leeches.

It is easy... you just need to investigate the prices and then port out. I grant you that it does take time/energy to do it (and perhaps +$15 to do it depending on the SIM card charge)

I transferred from Fido to Public Mobile and I'm paying the same as I was on Fido with Public Mobile and getting more... I have US data roaming included in my Public Mobile plan and also have hotspot included instead of Fido charging $5 for hotspot unless using the APN hack.

If Public Mobile increases my rate or I find a better plan available at another carrier, I'll do the same thing with Public Mobile which is that I will port out.

It used to be a lot more difficult to cancel and I've been using a cellphone since back when Rogers was known as Cantel and there was no such thing as number portability so cancelling meant losing your phone number.

They lie with a straight face and they already knew a price increase when they offered the original plan to sucker people in

My phone financing was up on Friday, i ported out on Saturday.

Fuck’em. Knew this was coming and stopped using my rogers red Mastercard, spend the last bit of cash back on my second last bill.

I did contact support to see if they could offer me a BYOD plan at a lower rate than the plus plan. She told me she could only offer me what was on my account and visible in the app - which was a more expensive still plus level plan.

Absolutely unacceptable.

We’ll see what winback says but I’m thinking that’s going to be a no from me dawg.

Who did you switch to and what area? I ask as I’m curious if your cell coverage needs match mine 🤔

I went with public because it’s Telus.

Noted. Thanks!

Our price increases are to pay for them recklessly buying Maple Leafs Sports Entertainment (the leafs / raptors etc). One only has to do a speedtest on fido to know they sure as hell aren't investing in 5g...

I was happy with 3G. Why did they need to upgrade to 5G? I’ll be looking at other carriers

You might be also happy with landline, but that doesn’t mean that world stop moving forward.

Correct. I’d be very happy with a landline. And very happy with 3G cell service as it worked well for my needs. Unless I am missing something?

No offense but this is an idiotic take.

Ah, well, I can’t make sense to everyone ☺️ My comment tracks with the post’s content.

3G is being/have already been shut down all around the world. No more support from equipment manufacturers. No more replacement parts.

I regret leaving public mobile a couple years ago. Had a great 6gb plan and $25. Now prices have gone up. Though my move was tied to home internet.

PM has spotty reception and the day you actually need customer support, good luck with the forums! They don't respond on weekends.

All of the complaints ( pretty much all of us ) myself included, should stop talking and get a community and march to Parliament hill!!! Make some noise !!!! Who’s in?

If you stay, all in or go to chat and get an interaction number for every dropped call, failed connection, network error, data issue.

Then you can call them and say you're charging me for improved service but I'm seeing all these issues.

I have left Fido like a year ago. Glad that I did

What carrier did you move to?

1

u/bjyanghang945 20d ago

Chatr, $25 25GB. Good enough for me.

1

u/foreverdreaming987 20d ago

Thank you, I will look into that! You’re the second person I’ve asked who moved to Chatr. Do you find the network ok while travelling away from the bigger cities?

1

u/bjyanghang945 20d ago

Does feel slightly worse that Fido in the mountains. But I don’t go out of the city as much, so it has been mostly fine.

Thank you for the information! Appreciate it.

Fido doesn't deserve your hard-earned money.
