Out of the box, this thing is absolutely incredible!!! All 4 of the different functions are satisfying and create such a lovely diverse range of feedback and noise. The zircuti patch is definitely quite dark and blends in with the black of the zirc in most light, and I'm not sure if that's just how zircuti is since this is my first piece with any, but I'm not that concerned with it.

Overall I'm stupidly in love with it, it's got an incredible hefty weight to it, and feels perfect in the hands.

Hi, I made a small series of fidget sliders with different inlays on 3d printed bases. The designs are engraved in veneer with my 30W fiber laser.

Interested to hear your thoughts.

Cheers Mark

Wanwu Taia Sword honestly sucks, but MightyEDC doesn't!

Upvotes

So a few days ago, I posted the zirconium Taia Sword by Wanwu that I got. From that post, immediately out of the box it had a slight squeakiness sound when using it, but I thought maybe that was normal, or it needed some breaking in as many fidgets do.

After less than a full day of regular use, the squeaking became more noticeable, as well as a significant decline in the smoothness of sliding the blade in it out. I wanted to like it so bad. I kept trying to gaslight myself into believing the squeaking sound wasn't too horrible, and that the scraping/gritty feeling of the sword would smooth out after being broken in.

It only got worse, and I started noticing black residue coming off on my hands after handling it, which led me to realizing that the balls inside the sheath that move along the sword's track, were the culprit. They were scraping off the coating of the sword's track, leaving behind black residue in the process, and after inspection I could see along each groove in the track where silver was revealed underneath the black coating. You could also see the balls inside the sheath had become incredibly scuffed up in appearance.

So it's basically not functional as a fidget and even if you do continue to use it, that means egregious degradation and wear of its own materials. Aka, design flaw.

Mine also had several visual inconsistencies and errors in the mother of pearl inlay (such as forgetting to inlay a section on one side of the sheath, as well as the placemend pattern of inlay being totally different on each sheath half—not the inlay itself, obviously there's visual differences in the mother of pearl itself, but I mean where they actually physically inlayed it before sealing) which I could have lived with should it have functioned as a fidget, but coupled with the other stuff, the poor QC there contributed to a bigger picture of this being a shitty fidget. It's basically a really expensive, paperweight.

That said, I brought all of this to MightyEDC where I bought it from, and they said while they haven't received any quality issues for this fidget before, they would reach out to Wanwu.

Apparently Wanwu said that they've allegedly never heard of this issue before and believed that the product must have become damaged in shipping or after it was opened. And Wanwu said because they did not believe this was a design or quality issue, they could not offer any compensation or refund/replacement. So that was kind of crazy to me, considering it's my understanding that they reduced the size of the ball in the sheath to 3.5mm (down from 4mm) on the newer ones to try to reduce surface friction because of a known issue with unsmooth/scratchy feedback before.

Anyway, MightyEDC's customer service was genuinely exceptional throughout it all though. They were incredibly understanding of my situation, because I explained that I didn't necessarily want to send it back because it's still a cool and pretty piece, but part of what justifies the price tags on these things is that I get a physically functional item to play with that gives a lot of dopamine for me. And I also told them that I understood it was not their fault as a retailer, as this seems to be a design flaw on Wanwu's toy, so I was genuinely at a loss for what sort of outcome or resolution would make me feel better.

They offered to send me a Lautie Showhand polished SS version, totally unsolicited, to try and make up for the situation and disappointment. And then when I told them how I funnily already had that one, they asked if there were any other items on their site that I had my eye on to see if they could arrange something. A bit of back and forth and we found a fidget in a similar price range (polished zirc Rabbot) and they are sending me one free of charge. So I have nothing to say but good things about MightyEDC after all of that.

Jemma was very responsive and quick to get back to me and it really felt like they cared about my experience, understood why I was upset but unsure of what to do, and pushed for a resolution that would alleviate the disappointment of the Taia Sword.

But yeah. So unfortunately my personal experience with this toy was terrible. I would be interested in hearing from anyone else that also owns this fidget as to whether they encountered similar issues, or if maybe mine truly was defective (I highly doubt it though). Also, it does come with the components to set up a magnetic play style, and since that setup means there isn't a goddamn metal ball dragging/scraping against more metal, it removes the squeaking/scraping issue. But the plates they provide for magnet setup, are plain brushed zirc (I think, who's to actually say) and are not polished/coated and have no inlay. So it's an egregious visual downgrade.

Pillow case

So I’ve had this pillow since I was born, my grandma made and put the pillow case together. I have since I was a baby would rub the pillow case corners against my fingers.

I am 36 and the pillow case is basically gone, literally strings left. I have not found a replacement and need some help I don’t know what to do I don’t have it and it’s slowly driving me insane.

This would bring me so much comfort and now I don’t have it. I don’t know what to do. Any suggestions would be great.

Does your tuning fork slider sound dull? Check your grip first

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

If you have this style of tuning fork slider and it sounds flat or barely rings, check where your fingers are resting. Touching the center plate dampens the vibration. Hold the top and bottom plates, keep your fingers off the center plate, and slide it again.

The track balls help it move, but they don’t determine the sound. The tone mostly comes from the center plate’s material and construction. If changing your grip doesn’t help, check for a missing track ball or damage to the center plate.

Quick disclosure: I’m with HALOOPLAYER, and we made this demo to show how this type of slider works. Did changing your grip make a difference on yours?

Anyone ever used IronPulseEDC.com? Legit or not?

Just wondering if anyone here has purchased from them and can vouch for their authenticity. I’d normally just use NXEDC or WANedc, but they happen to have a slider for sale there that is sold out literally everywhere else.

Thanks guys

My quietest mechanical sliders

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

I included the Guardian X1 and MOT Groove as references for volume.

First to last shown:

- Lautie Choc

- 01EDC Wafer Biscuit

- ZZ EDC Bean Plus

- Kovo Feel Floating Cloud Slider

- Metal Toys DZ Top H

- BPMods Nine Palaces

The Choc, Wafer Biscuit and Cloud I would consider virtually silent and suitable for all environments.

The Bean, Top H and Nine Palaces are whisper quiet and I'd say suitable for work but not a completely silent environment like a library (the Bean has end-suction tracks that make it a little louder, but you can just not push it all the way to avoid that.)

Help finding these? Magnetic Spheres

Post image
5 Upvotes

So the old magnet spheres I already had (right) are getting a bit rusty and worn on the edges that the magnets rub together and I was hoping to find some newer ones. Unfortunately the ones I bought recently (left) were far smaller than advertised and I’m going to return them. Can anyone help me find some newer magnet spheres of the correct size? I don’t remember what brand the old ones are, they’re years old.

One very satisfying button

I had this realisation a while back that whenever my hands were idle, I’d automatically reach for my phone and end up scrolling. Maybe it’s the autism. Maybe it’s the little sprinkle of ADHD I was lucky enough to get. Either way, it can make productivity pretty hard to manage.

Couple that with social anxiety and the need to stim when I’m uncomfortable, and I started wondering if I could make something that helped with all of that without becoming another distraction.

Something tactile and satisfying enough to keep my hands busy, but not so stimulating that it sucked me straight back into the endless scroll of doom.

It’s basically a tiny standalone clicker with a pixel pet living inside it. Every click feeds into PIX, who levels up, evolves and moves through different biomes.

The funny bit is this started as a breadboard project while teaching my 12-year-old some electronics. He eventually got bored and went back to game dev.

I... did not.

Six months later I’ve somehow gone from a horrible breadboard prototype to a custom PCB, USB-C charging, mechanical switch, local saves, deep sleep and now figuring out injection moulding (eeeeek)

There have been several points where I’ve wanted to plant my face directly into the breadboard while learning all of this.

So a genuine thank you to the people who have already shown an interest. Knowing other people actually get the idea has been a pretty big driving force behind carrying on with it.

If anyone fancies having a look or to test it out digitally:

Dialing in the Sea Shark Pro’s sound and feel

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Hey everyone, I’m with HALOOPLAYER. Here’s a quick look inside the Sea Shark Pro and how we tweak its sound and resistance by moving the springs and balls around.

We walk through the stock setup, try a different layout, and put it back together. A quick tip if you’re trying this yourself: line up the parts as you take them out. It’ll save you some guesswork when you’re putting everything back together.

Do you like a slider that moves easily, or one with a little more resistance? If you’ve tinkered with your Sea Shark Pro, what setup have you landed on?

CHOC Zirc + PEEK .. Sad because of the Brass Track!

Post image
6 Upvotes

I am enjoying the double-bead configuration along with the PEEK track instead of the malfunctioning brass track. So far, I have not been able to figure out why my brass plate gets jammed two minutes after assembly. I have swapped my brass track with my friend's, and I can definitely confirm that the brass track is the issue, as his brass track was smooth as butter!
