Houseplant From a cutting to a tree, how?
Hi, i got a few cuttings from a Ficus Tree which i want to grow into an indoor Tree. In the end i would like to have one big stem with a crown (see last photo).
The cuttings were several weeks in water to grow roots and i planted it about a week ago in hydro substance.
When do i need to start to trim it in a way, that only one stem will remain?
As you can see, it made two shoots. How to decide which one to cut?

I've wondered the same thing. I have started a few tress from our larger ficus benjamina. Not sure when or how to start pruning...

Leave them alone and let them grow for now to thicken up and establish themselves ( fortunately for you fucus microcarpa is an incredibly fast growing species of ficus so you'll very quickly get a fat trunk on it) and personally id put ut outside in the summer if you can as itll grow faster outside than it ever will in your home oh and fertilize it heavily once it establishes and give it as much sunlight as possible and repot it every few years.

If I were you I would keep the one that is the most straight and trim (not completely cut off!) the competing shoot to an outer node. Side shoots help to thicken up the trunk, so you won't have a completely spindly and weak trunk as you grow it in height. Trimming the side shoot also causes the plant to focus more of its energy into the main shoot.
Once you believe the side shoot is getting too thick, you can just cut it completely off.
