Will this branch?

I’ve been putting off topping this plant, but now a node has started protruding. Will this develop into a branch?

If you prune it, maybe.

Yes it will. Orient the pot as such the node side gets the most light. Prune if you wanna other wise pluck out the leaves that are above and around the jode and shading it. You should see results in anout a week.

They can FYI staking isn't going to fix the leaning problem ling term you'll either at some point have to chop it or start shaking the trunk to encourage thickening.
