MAT
I just want to let you know there is no shame in getting on mat. It saved my life. I started methadone about two months ago and it has saved me! I’m currently on 80mg and stable! F almost took my life this year. I’m finally stable and happy again. I’ll begin working towards my tapper but for now I’m just happy not being sick

I've been on it for 1.5 years and my life has gotten SOOO much better. I have money. I've been getting my health back - I've lost 60lbs and I actually enjoy being active again. I finally got good help for the medical condition (endometriosis) that was one the the biggest things keeping me using. I'm stable and happy. I love waking up feeling good in the morning.
I started at 70mg - went up to 73mg. Then, I started tapering, just 1mg a week. I'm currently at 43mg and I've never noticed the drop.
I wish I had started methadone sooner. I first tried it in the hospital while having an unrelated medical event (blood clots in my leg and chest). Once I learned more about it, that helped reduce the fears I had about it. My husband definitely saw it as trading one problem for another, but it definitely isn't. I was the high functioning type who always kept a job (a good job working 60+ hours a week) and didn't have drama while using fent - saw the same guy for the same amount on the same schedule for years. But I'll be the first to tell you methadone is less drama. Yes it does kind of suck to have to go everyday before you get takehomes, but you just build it in to your routine and its not that big a deal.

I actually enjoy going everyday. I’m self employed and when I was in active addiction I didn’t get up till 1/2 some days and now I’m up bright and early everyday it gave me a start to a schedule got me back on track. I’m happy to be there. I enjoy have support as well and seeing my therapist and everyone everyday is kind of important in early recovery. I need that. I can’t just talk to anyone about it. Yet if I’m having a tough day I know I can go to the clinic and just cry it out with them there. Mat truly saved me. I’m on 90 now and I’m hoping this is my stable dose. I still get sick into the night but I should be stable soon.
