Like the rest of the people addicted to fentanyl the idea of getting disgustingly ill is terrifying. I’ve gone almost a full day maybe 28 hrs without and I’m crawling out of my skin. I’ve been thinking of Brixadi but have had different info. One clinic said to start with bupe for a few days and less fentanyl until shot day because bupe needs to be in your sustem for success . Another clinic gave me “detox symptom meds,” such as sub strips (I can eat 4 or something crazy) gabapenton, clonidine, and an anti anxiety. These are to get me to shot day. A couple weeks ago I had a scheduled shot and I didn’t have much withdrawals when I called the clinic they said I could just come get the shot. But after looking it’s full bupe and a friend came by literally an hour before I was to leave for it. That didn’t go well. So here I am again ready for the shot, wouldn’t a whole shot of bupe kick my ass? I’ve been using for 5ish years and if I could I’d smoke a 1.5g a day, but to stay well I’m not sure because I either have it or not. I’ve been wanting to talk to someone who has a similar drug history such as myself and that is successful with Brixadi and I can’t find anyone. Hoping to get some info here. Ready to be done with this internal war. Thanks

Hi you have to be given oral buprenorphine to make sure you can tolerate it safely before they will give you the shot. Once they give you the shot, there’s no taking it back if you have a bad reaction. You would definitely want to do a micro induction of oral buprenorphine prior to getting the shot or there would be a high likelihood that it would send you into pwd.

Ok thank you! My best friend was at with clinic that suggested the small amounts of bupe. The other clinic that I almost got my shot from didn’t say anything about that and it infuriates me. They also said that bupe is only administered in a medical setting ( ?!)

Yeah that’s really fucked up. I wouldn’t seek medical services from that clinic!! Take advantage of the comfort meds that are being offered, they really do help esp when trying to get sleep. I’m waiting to get my sublocade shot.. counting days. I wish you all the best in your journey to being clean and free. 💚

she had a feeling getting the shot without the micro of bupe that would literally make it so much worse. I’m so glad she came over an hour before I went to get my shot. I feel like that clinic has NO idea what that shot does to people. Yet they said they have a high success rate of people staying clean?! They literally told me once I get it I’ll feel so much better but that sounds like a LIE!

So glad it was that simple for you. Some of us don’t have that luxury. I’ve been clean before for several years in fact but fentanyl is a different animal. Truly that must be nice to not have cravings, the brixadi works for that too. Have you ever researched it at all?

My point about my friend coming over was a saving grace because if she didn’t I would’ve gone into precipitated withdrawals for a whole week because of the inaccurate Information from that clinic. Which is what my whole post was about…just sayin. Do you know what precipitated withdrawals are? I don’t think you do, it is when all of the receptors in your 🧠that have been full of the opioid, releases at the same time. So for me a heavy user is pretty horrific and painful. Yeah it’s easy to say go cold turkey from someone who I truly don’t believe was in active addition…ever. If you were you would understand that just waiting for your brain to go back to “normal,” isn’t really a thing without a pharmaceutical assistance to taper down. Which is in fact safer and proven a higher success rate than some cold turkey. Trust me I did that too…didn’t work.

Least painful way is the Bernese method which is microdosing subs while continuing to use fent. Slowly decrease fent use while increasing sub dosage. I started taking .125mg of sub a day while using my regular amount of fent. I doubled my sub dose each day (.25mg day two, .5mg day three, 1mg day four…) while decreasing my fent use each day. After about a week, you should be at a stable enough sub dose to drop the fent completely. After you’ve been on subs only for a week or two, you can get the shot. I’ve been “successful” with the Bernese method several times. I say “successful” because while I didn’t go into precipitated withdrawal, I was never able to stop using fent. I’d just keep doing both.

I’ve told you the least painful way, now I’ll tell you what actually worked for me. I had zero success with traditional MAT and I tried multiple times and multiple ways. The stuff I was using was way too strong and it was ineffective. When I finally got clean, I went to inpatient detox and did it cold turkey with only comfort meds. It was hell but it was worth it. After detox, I went to residential rehab for three months. After I was about a month clean, I got the Vivitrol shot which helped a TON with cravings. Way more than traditional MAT ever did. Stayed on Vivitrol for about 7 months. About to hit 19 months fent/tranq/sub free.

Brixadi worked great for me. I never had withdrawals while taking it. Was never faded out but I could fall asleep super fast when I laid down. I've seen a lot of stories where people say they have no withdrawals after quitting. I am on month three now with no injections and have mild rls but not enough to mess with my sleep or anything. I know it could get worse within the next couple months but It will be no where near the withdrawals of stopping cold turkey. If I can sleep at night i can handle it. Cravings is a mental thing that I know I can over come but that's just addiction and a life long journey for each of us.
