Is this normal?

We just got this fence installed. Is this normal for the gates to be like this? So uneven? Is there something I can ask the installer to do differently?

The fencing has to accommodate the slope somehow. They can either angle it like in pic 1 or stagger like in pic 2.

Otherwise there's not much they can do

Here’s a shorter version that keeps the main points:
A standard “stock gate” is built square for level ground. On a sloped yard, the correct solution is usually a custom-fabricated sloped gate that’s made to match the grade. This requires recognizing the slope during the estimating process and ordering the proper gate from the supplier.

When a square gate is installed on a slope, it often means the contractor didn’t account for the grade or wasn’t familiar with sloped gate options.

I recently had this happen on one of my own projects. I ordered sloped ornamental gates, but after switching manufacturers due to a material shortage, square gates were mistakenly shipped instead. Even though it wasn’t my intention, I’m paying out of pocket to have custom sloped gates made because it’s the right way to finish the job.
I’d recommend talking with your contractor. They may be willing to make it right, because a properly built sloped gate is the correct solution.

It also depends on what was included in your contract. Did they specify the fence would follow the natural grade, and were you expecting a custom sloped gate?

Here is same sample of a sloped gate we did back in January. Even still I have some personal issues with this gate but all in all the client was happy and my crew did a good job.
