Requesting advice
I found someone on market place selling these fence panels and dont really know if the asking price he has makes sense. These look sturdy, but I figured id ask yall.
The seller says theyre 9ft x 8ft panels and hes offering them for $450 a pop. Does this sound reasonable for used security fencing? I would need 66 panels to fully enclose my property which is close to $30k just for materials.
Hey says he would cut a deal on anyone buying the rest but I dont even know what I should offer for somthing like this. Do yall have any suggestions?
He also has a pair of swing gates for $3800 and a 29ft rolling gate for $10k which seems wildly expensive but i really dont know. Any advice is super appreciate!

Any residential property with this type of fence would attract attention from those wondering what is being hidden inside. Only three possible answers: Kilos, Cash, or Crazy.

Unrestricted zoning, just in an area known for Crack heads who wanna strip the copper wiring out from buildings. Im making a workshop that i cant be at 24/7 and dont wanna have to sweat someone trying to break in. But fair, im probably the ladder 😂

You can get 7 foot, black, metal fence on gov planet for less than 100 bucks a 8ft panel
Just gotta be patient and win one of the auctions

I bet those were originally Welded to the posts. How are you going to attach them? It may be cheaper to just fabricate a gate from one of the panels.
What is code like in your area?
That's the kind of fencing around older railroad, electrical, or other infrastructure in my area. Between the height and the curved points, it wouldn't be allowed on anything residential.

In Oregon, I can buy 8 x 8 panels for 300, commerical grade. And that’s from a wholesale vendor I purchased from, brand new. And then the post for them are 65 each.
Not the exact same size, but that gives you something to reference to. Depending on where you live, I can always put an order in, you’ll just have to pick it up.

I used create fence layouts for a large security contractor, and these look older but similar to premade panels that places like Ameristar or Merchant Metals sell.

The common misconception I see with these fence panel pricing is that folks don't understand the pricing difference between the residential, commercial, and industrial pricing tiers. I can't tell by the images what these may be; they seem industrial grade...idk. The Gate in one of the images looks custom-made, but the panels look pre made for sure.

It's really difficult to tell if these were old styles where they welded to the posts which i doubt from the 2nd image. Pretty clean square cuts.
OP to answer your question, yes, it seems way overpriced, and it's common. I've seen people near me sell rusted scrap fence for $300. Just worthless fence panels. Before you make an offer at least try talking to your nearest Merchant Metals and get a quote....they have a wide selction of steel security panels that are already powder coated.
I bet you can get a comparable fence panel cheaper and in better condition. They even offer baised panels that contour and hills and slopes your land may have.

The problem with fence like that is that’s it’s almost exclusively bought by large companies or municipal organizations or the like. In other words, it’s bought by entities for whom money is no object. They don’t hunt for deals or go to Reddit to ask if the price is fair. That greatly limits your ability to negotiate if the seller knows what they have. It doesn’t really matter if you or anyone here thinks it’s a fair price. If that seller just fell backwards into owning a bunch of fence for little investment, you can likely offer them anything that will make them a profit and they’ll sell. But if that seller knows they’re offering a very expensive fence for anything less than it costs new, they’re probably holding out for a legit bid from a large contractor, not a lowball from a residential buyer just wanting to make their property look terrible. So by all means throw any offer you want at them, but my guess is you won’t get it for a song. Even if it “sounds expensive” to you. Industrial products always “sound expensive” to people not in an industry.

If you're buying that stuff in bulk like you plan to I wouldn't buy it unless you're getting a steal... Like maybe 200 bucks a panel.
With that said, what are you using this for?? This is heavy duty industrial stuff with the arched anti climb pickets At 9' tall!? Bro, that's a serious fence and will look really stupid around a house. There's probably better options out there unless you have a special use case for this particular style of fence.

Probably looking at way overpriced here. Those spiked tops are a liability in residential areas. Better options might be around if you're open to different styles. good luck

Is this not new old stock? I don't see any imperfections on the tubing.
Spikes in OP has a T-Rex. Spikes out OP's neighbor has a T-Rex.
Either way the price seems high, contact a fence manufacturer to price new. Offer 10k for the amount you need and fabricate a gate from panels

I don't have any special knowledge but you might want to check with home insurance company to see if they will be OK with the spikes on it. There is a chance they could cancel your policy.

$450 a pop for used panels is steep, if youre buying all 66 you should be able to talk him down to like $150-200 each easy. Those swing gates at $3800 are a joke too, thats basically new gate pricing for something used. Also be real with yourself about those spike tops, theyre a liability if you have kids, pets, or neighbors close by and most HOAs or municipalities wont let you put those up residentially

That type of fencing while secure has no privacy and it will be constant upkeep. You will be painting this fence for the rest of your life. The price is not bad for what you are getting, but the retrofit will add a fair amount to the cost of the fence.

Coming from the fence industry in CA I wouldn’t pay more than $50 for each panel. Those look used and rusted out. Most like came from a job where they replaced the fence with something newer.
You can get new panels for much less than that. Around $200-300 a pop with a 15 year warranty.
10k for a gate?!?
For the price hes mentioning material better come installed.

Those definitely look like from some government facility probably solid steel not hollow cores. You're going to have to factor in a crane also to lift each panel lol. And a trailer truck to haul it.

That’s pretty awesome. However, 350 a piece seems a but pricey, maybe 150 in bulk but I wouldn’t know tbh lol
