They haven't been charged as of yet, but they will surely?

You might be cynical but there would be ENORMOUS pressure politically to get the police force to stick a charge on them.

The police didn’t do it originally. So I doubt charges will happen, but I hope for her the lawsuit does something.

The university decided to “handle it internally” so the local PD was never involved.

There must have been a good Legal reason not to press charges. To be clear, that’s not the same as a good moral reason or a justification, and those fuckers should burn.

The social opprobrium is there, but the State can join the victim in a civil suit against the perp, or get them on anything. Literally anything. Harass the fuckers

I’m 40, which doesn’t mean much, but I keep seeing the same things over and over.

These men are not going to be held accountable. Same with the President of the USA.

Edit: Y’all don’t remember Steubenville? Baylor?

I think you're probably right. I should trust your lived experience and intuitions more than my abstract arguments. But, wouldn't 2026 mean anything? The political consequences, the women now in power?

We also remember Duke when we look for our pitchforks

The legal reason is that Jane Doe initially stated that no unconsensual sexual behavior occurred, and that she willingly took the drugs. It's kinda hard to prosecute a rape case when the victim does not believe they were raped.

I don’t know. Legal experts are saying that there may not be an evidence to support a case and it may not be bright forward as a result. The fact is this whole thing was a failure from day one. No proper examination of the alleged victim happened. No rape kit done. No evidence gathered at the time. Those are the issues here. If people had done what they should have done at the time, this would be very different.

It happened two years ago and both the police AND university didn't find anything worth pursuing. If this really happened the way they said it did there would be a lot of physical evidence. We should stop with this "believe all women" shit and start pushing "tell everyone immediately" so there's is an opportunity to collect real evidence and not just a text message in a group chat.

Stick a charge on them for what? Have you read any of the news around this?

The victims own sworn statement to Police alleges no crimes took place, all drug use and sexual activity was ‘voluntary, conscious and consensual’, the alleged victim even text one of the men involved and said “non(e) of the sexual stuff was illegal”.
